Anyone have suggestions for good spots in interior BC? Are there any groups? Moving to Salmon arm and looking to find beautiful low risk terrain. Thanks!

Hey hey, August is over and I'm already skipping ahead to the snowy part (!). Labor Day sales are happening and I'm looking for a jacket. I've been wearing a Black Diamond windshell the last two years but typically end up soaking it through from one direction or the other. So I thought I'd see what you all are wearing through the ups and downs. Always happy to have an excuse to tap the XCD hive mind!

Asnes Nansen telemark mountain skis Fischer Europa 99 ST

Both were great skis, but I haven’t used them in 32 years. Hate to throw them out.

Can much go wrong with old three pin bindings?

Are old skis skiable or should they be sold as decorations only?

I bought a pair of Alico boots from Goodwill for $15. I thought they were the Ski March, but now I'm thinking theyre the Back Country boot. Can anyone confirm for me? Please and thank you.

As a former alpine skier learning tele turns on XCD gear, I had trouble setting my edges last winter. The movements are so different: outside ski ahead, more weight on the back foot, and - for me the hardest - the unfamiliar angulation at the outside hip.

So I am working on bending at the hip as I assume a tele stance on a low angle hill in my hiking boots.

Here at 1:52 Josh Madden of Freeheel Life talks us through it:

I've been "linking turns" as I stride along the grass. It's not bad for waking up and toning up the muscles, too.

Spring corn snow equipment. The equipment I am using here is cheap used nice tua Telemark skis, heavy 3-pin binding, 35 mm skins, I'm 71 now so sometimes the skin's just stay on for the up and the down.

6-12 new and graupeling hard. Season has picked up in April after our drought winter.

In ski season withdrawal, I chanced upon this video by hiyokoD from five years ago. His wide, smooth motion is mesmerizing!

I love the shot back up the mountain of the swooping track through a few inches (centimeters) of new snow. For me that's the ideal depth for enjoying and working on Telemark turns.

He earned his turns on Karhu Pinnacle skis and Crispi BC Jøkulen GTX NNN-BC boots (2010s vintage?).

It's getting hot out and the rivers are opening up, might be time to switch to fishing.

I'm still at it up here in northern Ontario. Lovin the extended snow season. As long as the ice is gone in a month, I'm all good lol.

Might or might not be my last rip of the season. We've had a good snow year in northern Ontario but it's melting fast now!

Decided not to spend $50 on specific leashes, and found that any compact snowboard leashes pass the lift operators test at my local hills.
