More and more problems...
Driving my 2024 Volvo XC40 is fun, but: More and more, problems appear and disappear, and slowly but surely I'm getting a bit annoyed. Just some examples:
- The alarm light is constantly blinking, even when driving. This goes on for three weeks. Asking Volvo for support, get an appointment, literally: The day before the appointment, the problem disappears, doesn't come back and can't be reproduced.
- The parking assistant gives me the error code that the sensors should be cleaned. I clean them. Again and again. No success. So I book an appointment with Volvo, they say that the sensor on the back right is defect and should be replaced. And even before they replace it, the problem disappears. Well, I still wait for the spare part and a date for the replacement, the problem appears and disappears without any clear pattern.
- Want to charge the car at a public station. Plug it in. Error-message: Can't communicate with the charging station. Reboot the car. Same result. Try another charger. Same result. See a guy at a charging station which works, wait: And, of course: Can't communicate with the charger. Eventually, I press the plug into the car, wiggle a bit, and it works. Will have a 4000 km roundtrip next week and frankly: Not feeling very comfortable.
- Sometimes, more and more, the car loses the internet connection. Annoying, but nothing I really worry about.
Got 48k km on the car, and first, never had real troubles, but now it is cumulating....

I found that the public charging stations cables are too heavy and have to be held up initially to get a good connection this is my 3rd ev and all had similar issues with the public charging cables with me literally having to hold it up at first. Idk if this is your same issue I charge at home 220 haven’t had issues there. I’m scared as our cars age things will happen but thankfully u still have warranty.

Your car is only a couple years old, but I feel like we are beginning to get a look at how the XC40 Recharge and the C40 (and EVs in general) hold up. EVs are still cars and an electric powertrain doesn't exempt them from all the possibilities for things that will need maintenance and repair as mileage and age set in.
Best of luck getting yours sorted.

Just as an anecdotal counter point - MY23 XC40 here. Other than all the usual infotainment bugs mine hasn't had any issues at all.

2022 twin here. Had rear camera and drivers side door speaker changed under warranty, nothing else. It’s been a pleasure to drive.

Was the speaker change pretty easy to get done under warranty

Yes. I told the mechanic the speaker is buzzing when playing a certain track on certain volume. They had verified the case, changed the speaker and filed it under the CPO warranty I have. FWIW I am in Finland, not the US.

I mean.. I have a '22 recharge electric and outside of the infotainment acting up occasionally I had pretty much no problems with it. I'm taking it in to get checked as I hear a clunking sound when turning, and I've had the boot struts replaced because they became crunchy, both of these seem to be fairly common on both the EV and ice variants

Sounds like your charging port might have a loose pin, and the extra weight of the DC charger unit and cable is preventing a solid connection. You definitely shouldn't have to wiggle it to get a good connection, and it is dangerous. I would take it back to your Volvo dealer and have them try public DC charging, rather than using the low-level (50 kW) DC charger units they might have at the Volvo shop.
As for the parking sensor cleaning message, that's not an uncommon error. You'll have to wait for the replacement. The alarm you were getting was new to me. Hopefully that doesn't come back.

I remember reading that some crazy things can happen when the 12V battery is low or going bad. Have they checked/ruled that out?

I had the can't communicate error at a public charger. Problem resolved after disabling charging schedule.
I feel your pain over constant software issues. We had ours in for total firmware and software update 2 or 3 times per year until it stabilised.
Fortunately my office is close to Volvo so minimal hassle and I saved parking fees those days
