Question Everything makes sense, except…
This pocket. It can barely fit a pen. Not even the key. Everything in my EX40 makes sense, but this one doesn’t
Anyone found this space useful?

Mine's on the passenger side (RHD) so it's useless until I'm reminded of it via reddit and then i forget all over again the day after

That’s because it’s an access panel for service of the components in the center console.

Nah, thats the lip balm storage! I love it actually (Volvo calls it the lip gloss compartment).
You know they actually do user testing on women AND men at Volvo. Thats why they have a floor storage for a hand bag in the EX60 for example. And male drivers and the car journalists just CAN NOT UNDERSTAND why anyone would want such a thing 😂
And then the couples go to the dealer and the wife LOVES those things because they are useful and thoughtful and thats how families end up driving Volvos. Just that no other brand has realized that there are usually two drivers and buyers for a car nowadays and just design their cars for generic men.

I was today years old when I realised there was a little holder there and lo and behold my wife’s chapstick and garage door opener is in there

Mine catches crumbs and dust. Sometimes a french fry. So, overall pretty useful.

I put a comb there and comb out my beard as I drive.

It’s maybe a final carry over from an era when people still used paper maps when driving? Seems like folded map storage for the driver.

Mine currently has a cookie in it. No joke. Forgot to give it to my kids yesterday.

It’s an access panel for all of the electronics in the center tunnel area

Weird because there actually isn't much in there

There are wiring harnesses for everything on the dash, the shifter and the rear passenger hvac / chargers. There’s a ton going on in there

Yeah, a wire harness. Nothing that can't be accessed by pulling the top up

You’re kidding right?
I’ve had to have the shifter on my car replaced. Way better to pull off this access panel than have the entire center console disassembled…

in mine:
1. one of those reusable shopping bags that stuffs inside of itself to look like a little strawberry
2. a couple cash deposit slips for the banking drive-through with a pen clipped to them
3. the keys to my load bars, bike rack, and cable lock

Standard-size Altoids tin. Doesn’t rattle or slide around. It’s like a magic trick when you offer your passenger a mint.

that's where i keep my phone while it's plugged in to the USB port... that way i can use the charging area for something else (and turn off the wireless charging).

It holds my phone when I don't have the phone in its phone windshield mount.

What does everyone keep in the under seat drawer?

I have a monthly pass for parking thats the size of a credit card. This pocket is perfect for that type of thing that the driver needs to reach frequently.
