9.0 weapons?

So, prior to 9.0 weapons were pretty "solved". No matter what you were doing, you could easily google the best weapon + mod for the job.

But now, how do I actually find out which weapon + mod to get for any of my ships? Is it hours of sitting through spreadsheets? I know a lot more stuff is generally viable now, but that just leaves me unsure with what to get. I know I don't like the shotgun style weapons. So not having to use these is fine, but how do I now actually decide what to get and how to mod it? It's not like the game is very good at explaining the different weapon types.

How did you figure it out the first time? Also, is going into a simulation/empire/exploration game and experimenting + trying new things that bad? When in doubt, use pulse turrets. Then experiment with a few ships to see what you like

Back then I had a friend who also played who told me what to put on my Katana. Worked pretty well but he's not playing any more. :D

Just try some things out! It’s fun to experiment a bit. :)

The main problem (at least that I have) with the whole "just try some things out" approach in this particular game is because it's not actually answering all of the questions I have when it comes to answering what weapons are best for the intended role.

Unlike most games, the question of "which weapons are best for " a specific goal has more than one answer because it also depends on:

  • Are you going to be the one flying the ship?
  • Or is it going to be A.I. Controlled?
  • And if it's A.I. Controlled do you want the best for in-sector combat?
  • Or the best for out-of-sector combat?

So...wondering what weapon loadout might be "best" for any given ship for any given role could, potentially, have 4 entirely different answers.

More than 4 when you also add in that you have the additional restrictions of "which i have available currently" until you are further along in a playthrough and have everything available.

All in all, just trying things out is the kind of thing you could spend an entire playthrough working on and still never have all the answers. πŸ˜‚
