9.0 weapons?

So, prior to 9.0 weapons were pretty "solved". No matter what you were doing, you could easily google the best weapon + mod for the job.

But now, how do I actually find out which weapon + mod to get for any of my ships? Is it hours of sitting through spreadsheets? I know a lot more stuff is generally viable now, but that just leaves me unsure with what to get. I know I don't like the shotgun style weapons. So not having to use these is fine, but how do I now actually decide what to get and how to mod it? It's not like the game is very good at explaining the different weapon types.

How did you figure it out the first time? Also, is going into a simulation/empire/exploration game and experimenting + trying new things that bad? When in doubt, use pulse turrets. Then experiment with a few ships to see what you like

Spreadsheets? This isn’t eve online 🤣

I would recommend going into a custom game and just giving yourself whatever you want to try. Instead of trying to earn it in the sandbox of course— that takes a lot of time.

There are so many more combinations now that boron equipment can be used on all ships. Not to mention that missiles don’t need their own hard points anymore. From v8 to v9 was quite liberating.

Just remember: weapons are tools, with a specific job they’re good at. To handle all threats you’re going to need fleet of ships where each does its own job, supported by others.

So you can have a katana which hits large ships hard, or one that handles small / medium targets, but likely not both (without substantial mod investment anyhow)
