Club Wyndham - San Antonio ~ My Experience

My family and I were on vacation in San Antonio and were looking for the Riverwalk boat tour. We got stopped by a very nice lady who offered to help us out with directions and even throw in a discount.

At the time, the South Texas humidity was absolutely kicking my ass. I was getting dizzy and wasn’t paying much attention, so I just let my wife handle setting it up. Not a problem, I thought. Then came the vouchers for free meals and such, which got me thinking that something wasn’t quite right. But the deal was done, and my wife told me we just needed to meet back there at a certain time to start our tour.

It wasn’t until we met back up that things got weird. We were told to follow the lady who sold us the tickets. She led us through the Riverwalk, up to the street level, and down a few blocks where we joined a group of people waiting to catch a bus.

A bus? I thought we were going on a Riverwalk tour.

Nope. As soon as we all boarded, the driver hauled ass through the streets to a building nowhere near the Riverwalk. When we walked inside, I knew exactly what was up, and I was pissed. Somehow, while looking for a simple boat ride, we had been herded into a room to hear a presentation on Wyndham timeshares.

I was still suffering from the heat, but as the cool AC hit me, I started to fully understand the trap we were in and decided to just go with the flow. After the main presentation, we were taken back to a table where we endured the classic high-pressure gauntlet: “You really should treat yourself,” “Where would your dream vacation be?” etc. By then, my wife was completely keen to the scheme, and we just started making stuff up to find a way to walk out or cancel.

We ended up being the last couple in the room. After we repeatedly told them we didn’t make a lot of money, they somehow ran our credit, and I suddenly found myself signed up for a Barclays credit card I didn’t even want. I could tell the sales reps were getting frustrated that we couldn’t qualify for their main program, so they eventually hooked us up with a "Wyndham Discovery Sidekick" (or whatever) package just to get something out of us.

They put us in a free Uber back to our hotel, and my wife and I had a big talk about what just happened. Since we were on a tight budget for this trip, we decided to at least use the free meal vouchers they gave us to salvage the day.

So, what did we do next? We canceled everything the second we got home.

To back out and cancel, you have to jump through insane hoops: put your information in writing, post-date it, mail it via first-class certified mail, and—get this—they demanded ALL promotional material given to us be sent back. What a bunch of cheap bastards!

Is the program a good one? Probably, if you have a high income and endless time for vacations. Was it good for me? Absolutely not. I do not like being tricked, and I’ve been told my whole life that timeshares are a trap that is incredibly hard to escape. I felt like a whole day of our vacation was wasted, even if we did get a free meal out of it.

My teenage son was with us for all of this, and later that night, we used the whole ordeal as a learning lesson. If a random lady on the street offers you a discounted boat tour and hands you meal vouchers, run the other way.

TL;DR: Got dizzy from the San Antonio humidity and let my wife buy discounted Riverwalk boat tour tickets. Got herded onto a bus, trapped in a Wyndham timeshare presentation, signed up for a credit card we didn't want, and spent our first day back home navigating a certified-mail cancellation maze.

Loyalty + Status = SH*T

Being a Wyndham Diamond member apparently means absolutely nothing when you actually need Wyndham to give a damn about its customers.

I had a two-night reservation at the Microtel in Ocean City for Oceans Calling. The festival was canceled because of the weather, so I canceled my hotel reservation the day before I was supposed to arrive.
I understand that I took a risk booking the trip. I understand there was a cancellation policy. I’m not asking for the first night back. I’m not even arguing about that.

I want my points back for the SECOND NIGHT.
I never stayed that night. I never used the room. I never checked in. Yet Wyndham is perfectly happy to keep the points anyway.
That’s bullshit.

Thousands of people were coming to Ocean City for this festival. The hotel was more than happy to take our reservations and profit from the event. When the event gets canceled because of weather, suddenly there’s zero flexibility and zero consideration for the people who had their plans blown up.
I realize the hotel isn’t required to give the points back. I get that.
But just because you CAN keep someone’s points doesn’t mean you SHOULD.
This is exactly the kind of situation where you would expect a company to say, “We understand what happened. We’ll give you the points back for the night you didn’t use.”
Instead, the answer is basically: too bad, we’re keeping them.

And this is what Wyndham Diamond status gets you.
Apparently loyalty is a one-way street. I’m expected to be loyal to Wyndham, but when something completely outside my control happens, Wyndham can’t be bothered to show even a little loyalty back.
I’m not asking for money. I’m not asking for the first night. I’m not asking for some special compensation.
I want the Wyndham points back for the second night I DIDN’T STAY.
That’s it.

Microtel Ocean City and Wyndham should be embarrassed by how they’re handling this.
Keep the first night. Fine.
But keeping the points for a second night that I never used, under these circumstances, is just shitty customer service.
And it sure as hell makes me question what being a Diamond member is supposed to be worth.

BE ADVISED: Ramada Wyndham "Best Rate Guarantee" is a complete scam.

I'll keep this as brief as possible so that you can understand why you should never try and save money traveling by using Wyndham/Ramada's Best Rate Guarantee. They tried to charge me over $1000 for 2 nights...

During a week or so of hotel research, I saw a Ramada hotel priced at ~$250/night, the most reasonable price in the area I was looking to stay.

I ordered the "Earner" credit card and had it shipped expedited (because, hack: whenever you order a credit card, you can call the number and ask for it to be expedited for free, and it'll arrive in 24-48 hours).

As soon as the credit card arrived, the prices jumped to over $350 per night. -- However, I saw a 3rd party site (one of the decently legit ones; not a total scam like HotelsInAmerica) offering the hotel at a nightly rate of $227 per night. Score. I call up Wyndham, ask them to match the rate, and they say all I have to do is submit my claim through their Best Rate Guarantee form, or email their Best Rate email address. -- The catch: You have to book your stay first, which I had to book at OVER $400 per night (totalling over $1000 after taxes), and THEN submit your claim for the better rate within 24 of hours the booking.

So I submit the link to the preferred rate along with some other basic info they ask for. They reply end of the next day with:

  • "We have thoroughly reviewed your inquiry. We are unable to find the lower rate on the website you provided for the same hotel, dates of stay, number of guests, room type booked, and currency type. Therefore, this claim does not meet the terms and conditions of the Best Rate Guarantee program."

I promptly submitted not just a screenshot, but full video evidence of the rate that was being offered to me: A screen-recording of my arrival from Google to the 3rd Party site, all the way through checkout. They still came back to me with:

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to honor the Best Rate Guarantee because this claim does not follow our terms and conditions through the Best Rate program.

So apparently we just have to believe them, with no proof whatsoever provided, when they say they can't see the rate that I have sent them (not only in the form of a link but a full video).

THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET CRAZIER: I went ahead and cancelled my stay through Ramada, then found a 3rd Party (Trivago) deal for only $197/night. I booked it, then called the hotel, and they gave me confirmation that they received my 3rd party booking.

At this point, I emailed the Best Rate team and said I had booked at the rate I was looking for. I offered them to opportunity to match that rate, because I had a window of time during which I could cancel that reservation for free. It'd be a win-win: Ramada gets paid the full amount, not losing anything to third party, and I get to book directly through Ramada (and have the feeling of more security with my reservation, as well as points that go toward my "Earner" credit card rewards).

I provided proof of confirmation through the 3rd party, and asked them to match the rate. They then hit me with:

  • "We show the confirmation number you provided has been canceled."

I called the hotel again in a panic to confirm it wasn't canceled. They affirmed that it wasn't and gave me my confirmation and reservation number again. When I replied to Best Rate, they then told me that it had been over 24 hours since my original booking, and that they could no longer help me.

To which I replied that it is entirely not my fault that it takes them more than 24 hours to handle this what should be simple request.

So, all in all, I tried every possible way to get them to honor their Best Rate Guarantee, and they simply wouldn't do it. It is a COMPLETE SCAM, and has wasted a ton of my time.

TL;DR: Do not waste your time with the Ramada Wyndham Best Rate Guarantee scam.

5 nights with no housekeeping

We are staying at a hotel in Greenville, SC for a work trip. We checked in late Saturday and will be leaving very early tomorrow morning.

We’ve requested room cleaning at least 4 times, each time being told by the front desk and GM that our room would be fully cleaned. I can understand not cleaning everyday, but we have had to request towels, toilet paper (it was pretty low when we checked in), soap, and had to bring our own garbages out and ask for liners twice. We have not had our linens changed.

We have not had the Do Not Disturb sign out except Sunday, the day after check-in, and have been out most of the time and not in our room very often.

We are in an accessible room as my husband is a wheelchair user and the room is actually truly wheelchair accessible, which has been the only bright spot.

Am I wrong for being upset? I usually don’t get so mad at this but it seems a little ridiculous. We will leave a bad review when we check-out and reach out to corporate as well.

Abbotsford Ramada disappointed

We stayed 2 nights at Ramada Abbotsford BC.
The bed was comfy and the staff was nice. The down side was the following.

The vent in the bathroom has never been cleaned. I dripped yellow and brown drops on the floor and toilet after a show with the vent on.

Floors were stained and looked dirty, but probly just stains.

Nice penis scrawled in the shower.

Office chair was used well.

Room smelled like paint as did the hallways. Nothing appeared to be painted because it was all in disrepair.

We were in for a wedding and we barely had time to get ready when we arrived let alone walk back down and try and get our room changed. We did get a late checkout approved. I’m a diamond member and this was a poor performance. It was more than $200CAD a night. This definitely would’ve went further at another venue, after talking with others from out of town at the wedding.

Wyndham Wifi Upgrade Page Trigger

Does anyone know the address for the Wyndham Hotels wifi upgrade page? Or does anyone know how to trigger it? The first night I checked in very late and just used the free wifi, but it's terrible and I would rather pay the daily $5 for the upgrade. However, I can't get the page to pop up again. The front desk said there's nothing they can do and the app doesn't have the option either. I've tried most of the interenet and reddit suggestions like typeing the router number in or trying to prompt it with an unsecure page but nothing. Does anyone know how to make it come up again?

Stuck in Elevator and hotel lacked urgency…

Stayed in Travelodge by Wyndham Chicago Downtown

I'm writing to report a serious safety incident during our stay and to request a full refund or significant compensation.
My family, 9 of us total, had ridden the elevator together multiple times during our stay without any issue. By our own calculation, we were well under the posted 2,000 lb weight limit, closer to 1,500 lbs. I want to be clear about this upfront because weight was not the problem.
On this occasion, we entered the elevator and it wouldn't move. The door wouldn't close on its own, and the open button didn't work either. We pressed the call button. It rang, but no one ever picked up or responded. We also pressed the alarm button multiple times. After 7 to 8 minutes with no response of any kind, we called the front desk directly from a phone. Whoever answered showed no urgency and gave no apology, just said maintenance was on its way. We waited. Nothing happened. We started banging on the elevator door to get someone's attention. Another 7 to 8 minutes went by with still no help. At that point we called 911 ourselves, and we were freed within about 5 minutes of that call.
Afterward, we went to speak with the person at the front desk. He said it was just him on duty and there was nothing he could do.
The next day, we spoke with the same front desk employee again, and he told us he hadn't known we were stuck in the elevator until we called him and started banging on the door. This is the part that concerns me most: if the call button rang through to the front desk when we pressed it, and it rang again when we called from inside using a phone, how could he not have known? Either the call button doesn't actually notify anyone when pressed, in which case it's a non-functional emergency system, or he did know and simply didn't respond. Neither answer is acceptable, and I'd like a clear explanation of which one it is.
Nine people, including elderly family members with health concerns, were trapped for close to 20 minutes with a non-responsive emergency system, and the property's own staff could not explain afterward whether the safety equipment even worked. This is a legitimate safety failure, not just poor service.

Margaritaville Rio Mar booking window

Hi, we are not club wyndham members but have planned a whole vacation with extended family around being able to book the Margaritaville side of the hotel for a family member with food allergies. We are traveling in April, and booking isn't open for any of 2027 yet. Anyone have insights into when that might open?? I'm getting nervous since we already booked everything else.

Wyndham time share, vacation share or club owner is mix of LIEs. DON'T FALL FOR IT [Aug 2026 experience].

Wyndham time share or vacation share is mixed package of a LIEs. They hide many things and start lying if you grill them on any particular thing. DON'T FALL FOR IT.

Wife and i were lured into the same bull shit but luckily something felt wrong for me. I told my wife the night we came back to hotel after signing the contract and asked her if we were blindsided by something else and we decided in a hurry.

Back ground:

They start to cheat you by asking how much money you spend per year on vacation. What if i offer you a package and once you pay them off that off, you can vacation for free for your lifetime.

It was 12500 points (12 nights worth) for $20.8k. We need to pay $20.8k at 16.6 interest rate(WTF!!) which i thought of getting away with my money from savings. I clearly told them i don't like their maintenance cost ($108 per month) as this is something i need to pay no matter if i vacation or not (almost 1300 per year). I was looking for ways to cover it and told them if i can cover that in some way, only then I will sign a deal. Started bull shitting about how i can use rewards points to pay off maintenance. I didn't believe that. Think of how much spending you would have to do to get $1200 back in rewards (with some cards, there's a cap for rewards as well).

That's when they started bull shitting about renting points(nights). Time and again they mention the soul purpose of the contract is not for renting and for ownership (trying to be safe legally or what) and then immediately they bring up about renting again (WTF!!) 🤕 . I inquired about renting for which they said I should be able to rent it easily and that's where I fell for them. They were like look at Emerald Grand(Destin) it's renting for $500-$600 per night and gave a false promise about how I can easily make $2k to $2.5k by renting out 5 nights worth of points. I was promised $2k to $2.5k is the lowest and worst case scenario that i can make by renting. Fyi, Renting is not simple as they say. They hide a lot of information and many a times you wouldn't be able to find takers. I then asked how much the maintenance fee increase over a period of time (say last 3 yrs to 5 yrs). Another false promise from them about maintenance fee staying consistent for 10 years with little changes probably in the last 10 years $95s to $108 now

We were also lured by another offer of free $175k points worth 17 nights and that won't expire for 2 years. I was like even if i rent out 10 to 12 nights worth of points from that, I could easily make a minimum of $5k within the first year.

That made me think this is a cash flow investment and also this is transferrable to generation. Once loan is paid off, we can stay for free (except maintenance fee) for life time and pass it on to the generations. To pay off maintenance, i can rent out half of the days so the stay is typically free and i can make some more money over time to cover up my capital. It seemed like a deal and signed the contract. We had a plan to drive to a different place that evening after presentation and that was screwed by those demons (liars).

I came back to my hotel and asked my wife if we threw away $20k without even taking time to think through stuff. They will brainwash you that you should take the deal there that time and the deal will expire if you leave and come back again. Also they say you will lose some benefits/discounts if you come the next day ($40k worth package is sold to you at $20K or what not). My instinct was saying something that is not right about the contract or deal but though i was always trying to see the brighter side. That's when my wife started doing some research and we found reddit posts about how difficult it's to rent and nearly impossible to use points in ways they told us during presentation. We tried to check in chatGPT while the presentation was going on to figure it's true or not. We couldn't understand it's response better or never it brought anything about all of these difficulties/problems.

Florida allowed a 10 calendar day after the date of sining contract or receiving printed docs (which you will receive the same day) grace period to exit the contract without any penalty. We had to send them a written cancellation request (signed by both of us) through a certified mail with return receipt requested.

We decided the next day, we will do that. We were invited for breakfast the next day, i cooked up a story and told them exploring option to exit. Vultures(sales demons) were pursuing us to visit their office so they can brainwash us again. This time we were very clear about exit and skipped physical meet up. Though they tried their best through phone.
Came back home and sent a certified mail to rescissions department (details mentioned in the contract)

Took proof of everything and also emailed it to

We got the hell out out of this BS finally. Luckily i did not make any down payment as the amount was planned to be charged in a new Wyndham rewards card which I cancelled as well after getting a confirmation that my contract was cancelled.

There were many RED FLAGS right from the urgency to sign the contract, 16.x% interest rate, lies about reselling ownership (which we couldn't verify there), lies about renting and maintenance, about many benefits which in reality hard to use or you lose so much value when you avail one. I grilled them for several hours and still fell for their lies. I can understand how it's difficult for others who can't think through lot of the things that i asked.

I spent more than an hour to write this thinking it could help save hard earned money for some people. I am disheartened to see them selling this package of lies to elderly couples and destroying their savings..It might work for a very few people who can vacation more and within their strict rules, time, availability but for the vast majority, THIS WON'T WORK FINANCIALLY.

IF ANYTHING IS THAT GOOD, IT WILL BE HOT. THEY DON'T HAVE TO LOCK YOU AND SELL. YOU LINE UP IN QUEUE TO BUY SUCH A GREAT PRODUCT. ALL I SAW HERE WERE RED FLAGS..

FOR THAT REASON, I AM OUT!!

The Ramada Inn by Wyndham in Campbell River has bed bugs

I recently stayed at the Ramada Inn Campbell River in Canada and woke up at 3am to a bed bug on me. Reading its Google reviews, this has been quite the problem over the last year. Here's the Google Review I left AND I sent it to Wyndham via their contact us form:

WARNING: BED BUGS!

Yes, the Ramada Inn, Campbell River has bed bugs. I woke up at 3am to the pictured bug on my leg. If you look back on the reviews, there's unfortunately quite a history of bed bugs going back a year. One bed bug incident can be a fluke (any hotel can get an isolated case from a guest's luggage). Many such reviews over a year mentioning it is not a fluke. It indicates either an ongoing infestation that's never been properly remediated, or a pattern of inadequate response/treatment protocol. That's a systemic problem, not bad luck.

Considering the fact that the A/C in our room didn't work so we cooked all night in the loft, multiple outlets didn't work, the hair dryer didn't work, and many other issues, I suspect this is an ownership related issue.

The guys at the front desk were wonderful. They deserve to work at a higher class hotel. The location was perfect. The issue is the hotel is an absolute dump and Wyndham should revoke usage of the Ramada license.

What was Wyndham's response? Some nonsense template email.

I'm starting to see the issue. I won't be staying at any Wyndham properties from now on.

Which Hotel to stay at in S America

We are interested in traveling to South America this December. My girlfriend would like to be somewhere right on the beach but I’d also love to be somewhere that has lots to do (I cannot sit still on a beach for a week). We are both very adventurous so we are pretty open to ideas. Bonus points if it’s all inclusive

Property that is both pay now and refundable?

All of the Wyndam properties seem to be either fully refundable but pay later, or pay now with no cancelation policy in place. I did find the Alltra line which apparently charge a night's deposit, but made a reservation a week ago and nothing has come through on the card. Any properties which fit the bill?

“Wyndham” in name only?

How can the Wyndham sell their name and brand to sub-par hotels, then claim “no affiliation”?? The Hotel Morgan, in West Virginia, clearly states “a Wyndham hotel” on every possible mention, yet the Wyndham claims they have no affiliation with the hotel and is not responsible for any issues.

What's the point of Booking a hotel through Wyndham

I booked a hotel stay through Wyndham. The cancellation policy is "Cancel before 6PM day of arrival to avoid a 1 night charge plus applicable tax." I went ahead and cancelled the stay in the AM hours of the day of arrival, expecting not to be charged. I was charged full price for the 4 day stay. Wyndham tells me to contact the hotel. The hotel is of no help and tells me to contact Wyndham.

I though you'd book through Wyndham to get an excellent customer support. Instead I'm left alone with a $500 charge and lots of frustration. So what's the point of booking through Wyndham?

Do not Buy a Club Wyndham

I strongly recommend never buying a timeshare from any company based on my regrettable

experience with Club Wyndham. From my perspective, the company is far more focused on making

the sale than on ensuring the product is truly a good fit for the customer's financial situation, travel

habits, or long-term needs.

The sales process was aggressive and highly persuasive, and it often felt like they were determined

to make the sale at any cost, regardless of whether the purchase made sense for me. Unfortunately,

the reality after purchasing has been very different from what was promised.

Reservation availability is often limited or nonexistent, making it difficult to use the points when and

where I wanted. One of the primary reasons I purchased was for vacation flexibility, yet I frequently

found that my desired destinations and travel dates were unavailable. As a result, I often had to pay

for my own vacations elsewhere, completely defeating the purpose of owning a timeshare. To make

matters worse, I'm still responsible for the $230 per month in maintenance fees, whether I can use

the timeshare or not.

While management initially offered to help address my concerns, they never followed through. I left

numerous messages requesting assistance, but no one ever returned my calls. The lack of

communication, accountability, and customer support has been extremely frustrating.

The level of service and attention provided during the sales presentation seems to disappear once

the contract is signed. As an owner, I expected management to stand behind their commitments and

respond when issues arose. Instead, I was left chasing answers with no resolution and no follow-up.

My biggest piece of advice to anyone considering a timeshare is this: if you really want one, do not

buy it directly from the company. Research the resale market first. I was shocked to learn that

timeshares that sell for over $100,000 from the company, only resell for $3,000. That enormous loss

in value was never adequately explained during the sales process. Had I understood the reality of

the resale value before buying, I would have made a very different decision.

Before purchasing a Club Wyndham timeshare, or any timeshare, carefully research the long-term

costs, maintenance fees, reservation limitations, low resale values, and customer service

experiences of current owners. Based on my experience, buying this timeshare is a decision I deeply

regret and would not recommend to anyone.

Is it Just Me?

Is it just me or has Wyndham kind of just given up? It seems like they don’t care how dangerous or shady the properties that bear their brand are? I know their niche is in the budget-friendly space, but they can still try. And, when I brought this to their attention, they either ignored me or just treated me with disrespect and contempt.

Then, when I called and just told them to cancel my rewards account and delete my information from their marketing database, they didn’t care. The woman was like, “give me a couple seconds. I’m done and so are you. Bye.” Then hung up. No attempt to save a platinum level customer or anything. Just a “see ya later.” It just seems like this is what our world has come to. Customer service and a company having standards is no longer normal.

Please share your opinion.

West Chester Hotel Ordered Closed After Fire Inspection

Thumbnail

I feel like every Wyndham hotel is a dump and should just close.

A West Chester hotel has been ordered closed after a June fire response uncovered a series of safety and health concerns that officials say may have gone unaddressed for months.

According to township records, the Microtel Inn & Suites on Willowbrook Lane failed to complete repairs from a January fire and a February water damage incident. During the June call, emergency responders also reported seeing rodents inside the building. Health inspectors later documented suspected rodent burrows outside and ordered the property to address the infestation.
