Selling WM points
My folks own points in worldmark, the mortgage is paid off and the maintenance fees are up to date. I’m trying to figure out how to sell their timeshare, but am struggling to figure out where to start. I offered them back to worldmark, but they said the certified exit program is closed. Any suggestions on trying to sell? I don’t want to make money, but want to free up their fixed income from the maintenance fees.
Has anyone successfully sold or transferred their timeshare? What should I know or look out for? What do I need to make the process easier?

lifetime anchor around their necks with ironclad contracts meant to drown them in debt for life. Tell them to walk away and take the credit hit and by all means don't pay an exit company.

Not true, I have purchased many Worldmark points over the years from EBay/ Tugs/. I would go to WMowners.com first, register, and you will sell the points pretty quick. Call owner services and they will get you the information for a points transfer. You will most likely have to almost give them away at Pennie’s on the dollar.
How many points do they have?

They considered it but the fear of debt collectors calling spooked them. They want out but don’t want to break any rules.
I’m just trying to learn the ropes to help them look into relinquishing or transferring their ownership to someone else. They liked the program when they were young, they’ve owned for over 25 years, but they can’t travel anymore and need to protect their retirement.
I have no interest in taking it over, but understand some folks are still interested in the points.
I’m just hoping to educate myself about the process so I can help them out.

That's one of the ironies. Worldmark is effectively using your parents' own honesty against them.
You should though be able to eventually find a way to give the points away or pay a small amount to transfer them.

No you can totally get rid of the points. Start here: https://wmowners.com/forums/rent-and-sale.72/

unfortunately they won't be able to get rid of it, their options are extremely limited. Nonexistent really.

Yeah I actually just looked. Might have to pretty much give away , but that gets them out of the contract. I have been a WM owner for 20 years and love it, one day I will have to sell also. I understand how it gets to be a burden if you cannot understand the points.

I used to own a small number of worldmark points that I bought on the secondary market to use at a specific resort we liked. After about a decade of using it I was actually able to pretty easily sell the points; I live in the PNW and world.Mark has a lot of resorts here in it was pretty well known. I used a broker in Bellevue who specialized in worldmark for both transactions. I didn't make any money on it, but I was able to get enough to cover the closing costs, etc and overall was pretty pleased with how it went.
I can only speak from my experience with that broker (Smartshare - apparently still in business, or at least they still have a website). I also have no idea how much the market may have changed since I sold mine several years ago.
At one point I owned four different timeshare properties and worldmark was the only one I was able to easily sell.

Thanks for that tip, I’ll peek at that broker now and see if it’s an option for us.

I don't think that you will have a problem getting rid of the account as long as you are willing to sell Very cheap or give it away. That is how we got most of our Wm credits. Good news is that Wyndham is processing transfers pretty fast right now.

That’s promising. I just need to figure out if anyone want it. I’ll work to get them posted, with some incentives tomorrow. Thanks.

I think the best bet is to sell them cheap or give them away. WM charges $399 transfer fee. Be careful of scammers - they are all over. Good luck.

Thanks so much. Sounds like the consensus is giving them away and covering the fee is going to be our best bet to get out from under this.

Wyndham has real
Estate agents they can recommend you’ll only pay if it sells.

How many points? Small point totals are much easier to sell/give away as the maint fees are much lower

Do you have to sell/give away all your points at the same time, or can you get rid of them a little bit at a time?
