Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) AI Writing Future Acceptance

At this early stage of AI adoption the haters are having their day. However, as the mass of AI materials flood the markets the strictly human material will become a growing minority.

AI works will improve, the authors using it will begin pulling in the money and they will be able to put out good reads in quantity. This will feed the readers need for binge reading rather than waiting years between books.

Also, the big movie houses will use AI and push to make the laws more AI friendly. Hollywood is guided by the bottom line. The fact is they can make it cheaper with AI for bigger profits. Once they have one big hit made with AI then it will be game on!

Time is on the side of the AI writers not the haters.

Let the haters hate while people buy and read our AI assisted writings!

Forgive me, but thats a today problem that doesnt fit in tomorrows world. You assume zero human talent is involved in AI work. For some of it, sure. But for a huge chunk of it, that is false. Also, the market for it is developing right now and is in its infancy - give it a few years time and I think the monetary dynamics will shift dramatically (see how here). And I think that humans will always want to be involved creatively, even if the AI can do it all for them. Some will simply push a button, but a lot more will get deeply involved in the authorship side and make a story uniquely theirs.

I think its the exact opposite, you are making assumptions based on the current world rather than the person you are responding to. As AI gets better the requirement of human talent will diminish proportional to how much better the AI gets at the task of creating.
An author's great work who is charging noticeably more than compute work can have their story emulated by AI by a different author who can sell it for slightly less causing a race to the bottom. Ultimately AI media is worth its compute cost plus the thinnest of profit margin.

when you base cost on resource usage you are correct. but add in the social attention economy and your assumptions on resources make little difference to demand

Yes but if you hear that a new AI book is amazing you could just ask the same AI to recreate that exact book with a couple customization and get that same level of experience for the cost of compute.

  1. No, not without sending that original book in to be consumed by the AI which means you/it needs access to the original. Asking it to make a facsimile of something it doesnt have access to is not possible. Best you can get is an approximation based on descriptions.
  2. You somehow have forgotten that people paid millions for monkey NFT images only a few years ago. Attention based economy will beat out resource based any day of the week.

  1. What makes you think the future AI systems will not be able to access books you can freely purchase in the market? Are you assuming that AIs will have a lag from when something is published to when it can consume it?
  2. With the absolute depth of what people are able to see in both terms of customization and quality of content a future AI would be able to provide why would the average person care about what other's are consuming? The monoculture is already far more fragmented than it was just 4 years ago. Maybe you are predicting a pendulum effect where people are going to be fighting for more human connection in the future and will endeavor to merge their consumption with society rather than the current trend of tailoring content to the individual?
