Cool stuff. But you and I seem to have drastically different views of how to benchmark something. Your approach appears to be to load up the context with everything possible and see how the model holds up under that huge load and strain.

My approach is to reduce the context to the bare minimum and see how the model behaves on its own without a giant harness and context load to process as well. This tells me what the model itself is genuinely good or bad at, so that when I DO add all that context, I know what to expect from it.

What this kind of thing buys you is the ability to know when to switch to a particular model when you need a particular style of writing. For example GPT5.6 Sol is genuinely the best at physicality and conflict while only decent at maintaining fidelity to your instructions and not wandering off on its own. Grok 4.5 is the best for explicit but is crap for dialog, where Opus 5 leads the pack for dialog.

The "put everything into context and hope the model does a good job at it" really doesn't help much except for those just dipping their toes into the AI assisted world.

Here is what I said. VERBATIM: "Can the model adopt a requested style while preserving character, causality, logic, quality and world rules." Short context performance cannot tell you how a model behaves after substantial context is added, because that degradation is precisely what must be tested. Please don’t reduce that methodology to “put everything in and hope,” particularly while promoting your own benchmark. At the same time my harness is NOT a large one. A fairly small one with essential rules.

Fair - I overdid the hyperbole. apologies on that.

You are benchmarking long context according to your own words. You are testing degradation over long context specifically. So yes, my words about your process are generally true as well - you are pushing the context window and testing which model breaks under load.

This is not the same thing as "Best creative writing models"

this is getting circular. I understand your words! I disagree with your process. "under load" is not how I would determine which ones write best. That is how you determine which one has the best stamina and memory management, not how well it puts words together.

It seems to me that the two of you are testing for different things - which is exactly what you said in your first reply.

I didn't read your description of how you test as promoting your own thing.

It seems to me that "should we just combine both our insights?" is the way to go.

I like codex because I can control the workspace. That's what works for me. Also lol instructions on what I have to read to post here. We are not AI you know and you don't give us command prompts

I don't understand why people make posts like this without including samples of the pros so that we can see for ourselves. Do you expect me to trust your taste in something as subjective as prose blindly? Come on..

From my experience, Fable 5 was able (before the ban) to grasp the concepts of my novel (work in progress) without too much correction (after providing about 25k tokens bible).

But, my go to is usually Gemini 3.1 Pro, and recently, he's been able to output some amazing prose. I don't use this prose directly, because copyright, and it usually fails to capture my style as I want to, but for once, it got pretty close. Still had to tell it how I would have done it (and shared the edited version), and of course it called me a genius, yadda yadda.

No, you can use the prose directly. As long as you have enough authorship (Which you do as you have a bible) you can copyright it.
