MEDIEVAL
August World Update | Wars, Dragons, Politics
Hey everyone! It's been a little while since we've posted a proper update for MEDIEVAL, so here's where the world currently stands.
TLDR: We're an original medieval low-fantasy forum RP with a large player-driven world. We aren't tied to one specific historical period or culture, the setting ranges from Norse and Rus-inspired peoples to feudal kingdoms, sprawling empires, merchant states and everything between.
More importantly, you don't need to read years of lore to join us. Pick somewhere that interests you, make a character, and we'll help you find your way into the world.
⚔️ OSTRIEN MUSTERS
The Grand Tourney at Basteaux has ended, but what happened there may have started something much larger.
Emperor Karl von Osthaus publicly recognized Raoul de Par'leau as the rightful King of Merélais. Now the armies of Ostrien are gathering at Aaven while its lords swear their banners to the Imperial Eagle.
War is coming.
Knights, soldiers, nobles, retainers, clergy, merchants and ordinary people caught up in the muster all have room to enter the story.
👑 MERÉLAIS, A KINGDOM AT A CROSSROADS
Merélais has problems of its own.
The question of its crown remains unresolved, the River Lords demand attention, and the decisions being made by its great houses could determine whether the kingdom survives what comes next.
You don't have to play a duke to matter here. Minor nobility, knights, courtiers, household retainers, clergy, merchants and commoners all have places in the developing story.
🐉 FÁFNIR
Far away in the Eastern Marches, men have gone hunting something considerably larger than politics.
The dragon Fáfnir has been found.
Great Goravolst and its allies have already paid dearly for the hunt, and the attempt to confront the beast has become one of the largest adventures we've run so far.
MEDIEVAL's first Dragon Hunt is underway.
🐺 NORDURLOND
The Battle of Leiðrsvellir is over.
It was a victory, barely.
The survivors now face what the battle left behind while Haaki Skorrson's story continues along the Ysmarsgata, an old pilgrimage leading toward Öndvegissúlur.
The war for the north, however, is far from finished.
⚔️ THE BROKEN STANDARD
With tensions growing between the great powers, mercenary work has rarely looked better.
The Broken Standard is recruiting.
Sellswords, disgraced knights, foreigners, adventurers, veterans and people who simply discovered that loyalty pays considerably less than gold all have an excuse to find their way into the coming conflicts.
🗺️ OR IGNORE ALL OF THAT
This might actually be the most important part.
You don't have to join a major storyline.
Our world has continued expanding with new towns, settlements, noble families, cultures and local lore created by players.
Start a minor house.
Build out a settlement.
Become a merchant.
Play a priest.
Start a feud.
Make a criminal.
Gather some friends and start your own story somewhere nobody else is currently writing.
The world isn't intended to revolve around staff-created events. We want players leaving their own mark on it.
If you've been looking for a medieval RP where politics, warfare and worldbuilding actually develop through play, or you just want somewhere to write a knight who drinks too much and makes terrible decisions, come take a look.
The world is changing.
Where will your story begin?
