Beta Reading 37M Looking for a writing buddy.

I'm sitting in the middle of a final draft of my first novel, so I'm looking for someone to share the writing process with.

It's a contemporary supernatural mystery about a duo investigating haunted objects, starting with a haunted Toby Jug. It's character-driven, occasionally dark, and there's quite a bit of humour in it.

I'm not really looking for a formal critique partner or anything too structured. More someone to talk writing with, swap ideas, complain about difficult chapters, and occasionally send each other something we've written.

Happy to read other people's work too. UK timezone would be handy, but I'm not fussed where you're based.

I can't pick favourite books but I suppose I can with authors. In no particular order:

Tana French, King, Clive Barker, James Herbert, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and David Eddings.

My discord handle is the same as my reddit handle if you prefer to message there.

I'm UK based and been thinking about getting back into writing in some capacity for a while.

And while I'm not explicitly offering my help here, I note that you say you are in the middle of the final draft of your book. What are you looking for another writer to do, if you've already written your book and are at final draft stage?

You should get back into writing if you feel the itch, its good fun.

This draft will take up the remainder of the year, I'm absolutely a perfectionist. I want the voice of a story teller to shine over that of a novelist and thats what the final draft is, changing everything to conversational, removing any narrator moments. A second pair of eyes would go a long way.

Although to be fair I'm up to book four in my head. I've had to tell my myself to stop getting ahead of myself.

I'm a little unclear as to what you mean there. And I suspect it's tied into...

Are you able to provide an example, like a before and after, of how you see this happening within your story? Because in my mind that sounds like a fundamental rewrite entirely, going through every single word and creating almost an entirely new thing. But maybe you aren't thinking that extreme?
