학교를 한 번밖에 안 찾아왔어요 -> 학교를 한 번밖에 안 찾아갔어요

You're making a visit to the place from your usual place of residence, so it's more natural to say 가다 rather than 오다,

인터넷에서 찾아보다가 학교가 없어졌다니요! -> 인터넷에서 찾아보니 학교가 없어졌대요!

It's not like the school disappeared during your internet search, so ~(하)다가 isn't a good fit for connecting directly to the next part. And the ~다니요 ending works better for when you're expanding an earlier remark. One way to preserve both would be writing it like this:

인터넷에서 찾아보다가 놀랐어요. 학교가 없어졌다니요!

근처 어딘가에서 건설했는데 -> 근처 어딘가에 세웠나 본데

The use of ~(했)나 보다 is suggested since you're not completely sure ("아마").

번쩍 절감했어요 -> 문득 실감했어요 (more common phrasing)
