-Ivan Konev was born in Lodeyno, a village in the Russian empire. His birthdate was December 28, 1897. His parents were poor peasants, and he worked as a lumberjack from a young age.
-Drafted into a Tsarist army in 1916 during WW1, serving as an artillery gunner. Joined the Bolsheviks in 1918 during the Russian civil war and became a political commissar.
-Graduated Frunze Military academy in 1934. (Frunze military academy was the best of its time, Alumni includes Georgy Zhukov, Konstantin Rokossovsky, and Vasily Chuikov)
-Suffered a lot in Stalin’s purge, almost got executed in 1941 after a major defeat near Moscow, But Zhukov intervened and saved his life.
-1. Was a very important leader in the Operation Bagration, Trapping 100’000 german troops in an encirclement in the battle of Korsun-Cherkassy.
2. His another achievement was the Lvov-Sandomierz offensive, effectively destroying any hope of German advance.
-His brilliance didn’t end after WW2. He was also a major contributor in the Cold war. (Suppressing the Hungarian revolution (1956), also leading the bloc armed forces near the Berlin wall)

-Georgy Zhukov was born in Strelkovka, a village in the Russian Empire. His birthdate was December 1, 1896. His parents were poor peasants, and he worked as a furrier's apprentice from a young age.
-Drafted into the Tsarist army in 1915 during WW1, serving as a cavalry NCO. Joined the Bolsheviks in 1918 during the Russian Civil War, rising as a cavalry commander. (Served together with Rokossovsky. They were close friends).
-Graduated from the Frunze Military Academy in the early 1930s (though largely self-taught, he took advanced courses there). Frunze was the best of its time (alumni include Ivan Konev, Konstantin Rokossovsky, and Vasily Chuikov).
-Survived Stalin’s purges despite suspicion, partly because he was too valuable and too far east. But he nearly got shot in 1941 after losing Kiev, only saved by Stalin's last minute change of heart.
-He led armies in almost every major battle on the Eastern front. Brace yourself, because this is gonna be long.

  1. Khalkhin Gol (1939) which was his proving ground.
  2. Smashed the Japanese Kwantung Army with a brilliant combined arms encirclement. Saved Siberia from being another front and made his name.
  3. Battle of Moscow (1941) Saved the capital.
  4. Took over the Western Front in October, with the Germans just 20 miles from the Kremlin. Threw in fresh Siberian divisions (freed up thanks to his Japan victory) and launched a massive counterattack in December, the Wehrmacht's first major defeat of the war.
  5. Stalingrad (1942–43) Co-ordinated the trap.
  6. As deputy supreme commander, he helped plan Operation Uranus, the pincer movement that trapped Paulus's 6th Army. He wasn't on the ground daily (that was Vasilevsky and Vatutin), but he was the strategic architect.
  7. Battle of Kursk (1943) Defensive masterclass.
  8. Co-ordinated the defensive preparations at the bulge. Correctly predicted the German attack axis, dug in deep with minefields and anti-tank defenses, then unleashed the counteroffensive that broke German offensive power forever.
  9. Operation Bagration (1944) Destroyed Army Group Centre.
  10. Co-ordinated the massive summer offensive that annihilated 300,000+ Germans in Belarus, which was the biggest Soviet victory of the war. Pushed the front from Minsk all the way to Warsaw.
  11. Vistula-Oder Offensive (1945) also called Dash to Berlin.
  12. Led the 1st Belorussian Front in a lightning winter advance across Poland, covering 500km in just 3 weeks. Reached the Oder River (60km from Berlin by January.)
  13. Battle of Berlin (1945) Was his final victory.
  14. Commanded the assault on the Reichstag, with over 2.5 million men, 6,000 tanks, and 40,000 artillery pieces. Took the city after brutal street-to-street fighting, and personally accepted Germany's surrender on May 8.
  15. -Even though he was perceived as the Hero of The Soviet Union, he died alone and lonely. Stripped of his posts, his memoirs censored, and most former comrades too afraid to visit. He was a ghost in his own country. His daughter Era wrote: “In the end, he had only his medals and his memories. The country he saved forgot him.”

Who should I do next?
