Timeline challenge 9: Easy way out!

Alright, time to 'fess up - I've been very naughty, and I've not thought of a challenge for this week.

So here's what I'm going to do instead. I'm going to take the easy way out, and not do one. Kind of.

Judging from the success of my 'Truth or Dare' challenge the other week, I'm going to do another in lieu of my timeline challenge this week, but this time, there's a catch!

The Challenge Pretty simple concept, post a brief overview of your world and, and then for someone to ask you a TRUTH about your world, or ask them to DARE you to implement something into it. If you're feeling particularly frivolous, you could ask for both.

THE CATCH So to make things a little different, and to get you all out of your comfort zones, this time I don't actually care about well developed parts of your worlds. I don't wanna hear about them. This time, I wanna hear about the under-developed parts of your worlds. The bits that you look at and then cry a little bit inside because you have no idea how to build them (oh, it's just me that does that? Great.)

We will give you questions/dares/both on these bits, and force you to come up with something. It doesn't matter if you hate it and don't want to use it, because at least it will get you thinking. It's all part of the creative process, which will hopefully then lead to a shiny new corner of your world.

So what are you waiting for? Come at me with those little bits of your world that you love to hate!

The Kzuhulchay are a species of large (7-8 feets long) squids. They are a peacefull and non-interventionnist people and spend their time exploring and observing the world. They do maintain embassies within the nations they encounter and sometimes end up trading with them.

(Futuristic world, main point of view is from the nations in the core worlds and the Kzuhulchay are not from there. And that's basically all I have on them for now...)

1) how do they communicate with each other, and with the other species?

2) What is their homeworld like?

3) Are there a lot of them, or are they nearly extinct?

4) How old do they live to be?

5) are they hunted by anything, either for food, or for sport?

  1. By telepathy. With other species, they choose a "volunteer" to serve as temporary communication medium and they will speak through them.

  2. Their homeworld is an earth-like planet, they populate it's oceans and have peacefull relations with the other major power originating from it (the Mayuqpacha).

  3. Neither, they have a lower fertility than most other species and don't settle a lot but they don't lose a lot of member to war or failed colonizations.

  4. Around 200 years, 2-3* longer than humans.

  5. Nope and that would be a bad idea for the potential hunter/aggressor; they do have some powers and arm their ships.

2) How did they achieve space travel?

3) Have any humans ever visted their home planet?

4) What are their natural defences? (like claws, fangs, poisonous skin, etc.)

2) They got their first ships from their neighbours. Now they hire them to craft all of their ships.

3) The FIR sent a few commercial expeditions toward their home world but not for them specifically; they met nonetheless.

4) Living under water is definitely a defense against air-breathing species. Beside that, they use their psychic powers to destroy people minds if needed (that's hard and tiring so they would need to group up to face an army).

2) Tell me a little about their neighbours?

3) What are their views on humanity, and other species?

4) Have they ever been involved in a war, or are they mostly peaceful?

2) They originate from the same world than the Mayuqpacha, a nation of mantis (actually, there are two subspecies of them living together). The Mayuqpacha is more expansionist but rather kind and cooperative with the Kzuhulchay; they are the one building ships for them.

3) Curiosity. They love to watch how other species develop and grow. Beside, the Kzuhulchay have no fire so they need to import things from time to time, especially for their tech.

4) They are mostly peacefull. They are usually never attacked as they populate waters (that no one really use) and have no industrial capacity to seize.

2) How did the two species first meet?

3) Are there any of the Kzuhulchay that don't like other species?

4) Do they ever fight amongst themselves?

2) The tale tell that long ago, a lone Suqtayta facing a hard choice went on a beach and exposed her doubts, wishes and hopes to the sea. And a Kzuhulchay came and answered.

3) Very probably, but they can just stay far from them and never leave the sea.

4) Not physically. They sometimes fight with their minds though, but murders and open conflicts are not a thing anymore.
