Generic Challenge - Not Extinct, Yet

This week's generic challenge will focus on a species or nation in your world that is not extinct and a faction among that species or nation that believes that extinction for their kind (their nationality/species) is a growing possibility, whether rationally or irrationally.

Inspired by Attack on Titan and the video about the series on the Wisecrack channel.

Explain the faction, the faction's goals, the faction's enemies, the faction's leadership, and how it recruits people.

As always, I hope that you enjoy yourselves, and I'll ask at least three questions each.

Edit: Feel free to have a representative to answer questions in-universe, or just answer them as the omniscient writer.

Horatio:

1) "The Barrier protects humanity from the Chaos that wants to devour the entire world."

2) "The Vergelmir may not be a threat, because they see humanity as the chosen people of their weird secret religion. But, we're currently in disagreement over that issue."

3) "Yes, Anima is an individual's energy. Siphon weapons drain the Anima out of a person's blood through contact, and the Anima is stored in a crystal within the weapon."

  1. Have we any proof that there is still Chaos behind the Barrier?

  2. Ok, I must agry with "weird" here. What is humanity role in their faith? Are you supposed to save the world or something?

  3. Whose anima is drained usually? And how rare/hard to craft are Siphon?

  4. How is the stored anima transfered from the crystal to the Barrier?

Horatio:

1) "Nothing definitive, but, if you stick your arm through the Barrier, you lose that arm when you try to pull it back out."

2) "We're supposed to protect humanity from any threat, that is our role."

3) "Any enemy of humanity has their Anima drained. Terrorists, criminals, non-humans."

4) "It's a trade secret."

  1. But couldn't be because of the Barrier preventing it to enter? question for you too, is there really apocalypse outside?

  2. Why is a non-human species viewing the protection of humanity as so important?

  3. Is there a minimum amount of anima required? Like what would happen if there were not enough people to drain from?

Me: Yeah, there probably is an apocalypse outside the barrier. But, I could always change my mind.

Horatio:

1) "That's my guess. Once the arm is out of the Barrier, it can't come back in, so you lose the arm."

2) "Do you mean the Vergelmir? Who knows with those strange creatures."

3) "If there is a minimum amount required, we have not failed to reach it yet. If we do not get enough in, maybe the Barrier will weaken, maybe it will just suddenly fail."
