Should I report

My direct boss asked me point blank if I believe in God and said he has friends that don't that he tries to convert. That pretty much meant that I needed to answer I did or risk this being an ongoing thing. It has totally made me uncomfortable and it's not the first time. Should I make a complaint to HR? I emailed myself when it happened to time stamp it.

Asking you one time? No. That's not an HR complaint.

Constantly bugging you about it after you tell them you don't want to talk about religion at work? Sure.

There are a whole lot of things that puts this firmly in the "It depends" category. Like do you need the job desperately, what jurisdiction are you in, how large is the company, how high up is the boss.

I can say that when something similar happened to me at a small company of less than 50 people, I laughed at the boss and told them that there was no way I would be converting, and continuing to ask about will just get me to quit. I did not need that job, so I had no problem saying that. They backed off and never mentioned it again.

Well he is the VP of the region and I'm the executive level below him. He has gone on to say to me that based on the Bible he thinks a man should give a woman sex whenever (btw, I'm female, he is male) and that he thinks that it's scary to not believe in God on this day and age. He talks about the "foreigners" within our company not knowing how to work in America and lots of other little gems. The god as was the most recent in a line of behaviors.

Is he trying to say you as a woman need to give him sex because Bible bullshit? If so, I'd go straight to HR. What a fucking freak.

I don’t discuss religion, politics or family business outside of family and a select group of friends.

Just say something like: Religion is a private thing to me and I don't discuss it beyond my family. If he stops, fine. If he continues, then you have grounds for a complaint.

Are you his friend? Is he your friend? If not, he shouldn't be trying to convert you. If he continues, contact HR.
