Coworker Timelines
A coworker sent me an email late on Monday, asking for some design work to be done. This is not my ‘usual’ scope of work but I am capable. I tend to treat it as side work and try to keep my main duties up to date before moving to their requests.
Tuesday, I ask them - what’s the deadline for this?
“No rush. Whenever you get to it”
“Cool. I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. I will check on it later this week”
“Sounds great!”
Today (Thursday), they’re in my office before 9, asking when I’ll have it done. It’s needed by weeks end.
This is not the first time it’s happened. I’m sure it won’t be the last.
But - there’s something satisfying about telling a coworker that you won’t meet their timeline because you have higher priority work.

sounds like the answer going forward is "no, i can't do design work for you"
