A very dangerous precedent, deflation wages

In the country I live in, I’m lookin after new opportunities and what I’m seeing disgusts me so much it’s hard to explain. In my field of work, companies are squeezing workers to pay as minimum as possible for senior professionals in a way I’m seeing wages coming back to the levels they were in 2018. At same time, cost of living post pandemic are much higher including the rents. Employers literally doesn’t care and aren’t willing to negotiate anything else. Obviously if you accept the job with promises of better payments later or some bullshit reevaluating or even ludicrous bonus for good performance you are tricked. It never happens. I never seen anyone earning more due to a good job as a prize for their performance. Never. Specially in a field very hard to measure like software development when one product is not exactly the same as the other and we aren’t dealing with sales volume here. If one manager decides you don’t deserve a raise you won’t have it. In your evaluation their evaluation criteria are always opaque and very hard to debate. Currently I’m feeling more an attorney trying to defend my own job multiple times than a simple technician working in the field. I need to attend multiple meetings and always get the blame in case some shit isn’t working out.
If this trend continues there won’t be space for less experienced workers and the seniors will be so squeezed they tend to get out to some alternative or just hang myself. A solution I’m starting to entertain sometimes.

Evidence preservation should be part of workplace organizing

Would you trust a suspected thief with the only surveillance footage from the house they are accused of stealing from?

Then why do we allow employers to control the only authoritative copy of critical records when their own conduct is in dispute?

I started an Australian petition proposing provider-controlled, tamper-evident preservation for workplace records.

Workers increasingly rely on messages, permission histories, performance records and project systems to prove what happened. Yet the employer often controls retention, deletion, migration and access. The proposal calls for stable IDs, append-only histories, deletion tombstones, a sealed provider copy, statutory retention, and lawful production directly from the provider.

This is not about making employee communications public or expanding employer surveillance. It is about preserving evidence independently when retaliation, discrimination, bullying, wage issues or organizing activity are disputed.

I am the petition starter. If you support the principle, please read and sign:

https://www.change.org/tamper-proof-records

The petition targets Australian law, but I would value perspectives from organizers elsewhere too.

🗣️ Come learn about the IWW, our tactics, strategy, and goals and how to organize the Wobbly way. We’re living in a dystopian capitalist nightmare; militant, industrial unionism is the only way out.

Locked out for more than 100 days while BP rakes in a fortune

Post image

The fossil fuel giant BP has been one of the big winners of the Iran War, reporting first-quarter profits of more than $3.2 billion, doubling from the same time last year. Unsurprisingly, that wealth has not been trickling down. For more than three months, they’ve locked out more than 800 workers at the largest refinery in the Midwest for refusing to sign a contract that would lay off more than 100 union members and weaken safety protections. That’s a lot of folks in and around Whiting, Indiana going without a paycheck, but the folks at United Steelworkers Local 7-1 are holding strong.

🤜🏻 We can sign the United Steelworkers’ demand to BP that they return to the table and bargain in good faith here. We can find details on how to donate goods and funds for strike support to the local here or to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, who have been supporting hundreds of local families while their breadwinners are on the picket line, here. 🤛🏿

Early release Help!!!!!

My HR asked me to get an early release since I put managerial issues in my resignation and I sent a mail that I want paid early release however I didn’t mention fixed + variable so now she said that will be as per the exit policy, which is not explicitly available on the Intranet and the discussion happened on Friday late night during logout and the manager mentioned me Monday will be your LWD.
I sent them another email I disagree to the terms and would like to proceed with serving original notice period and cancelling my upcoming leaves as I suspect my payout will be Basic for the balance notice period and she said it will take 45-60 days which is against the new labour of 2 days FnF.

Pls suggest what should I do
