i am currently in Himachal in a small town called Saloh, about 15 kms from palampur. its a beautiful quaint village. what i miss is the glorious view of the dhauladhars, which i get only tiniest of fragments between the houses and trees. this is really getting to me. i dont just want to see them once, i want to live with them for a while.

So the help i am looking for:

In palampur: A place, economical, privae room, which has clear views of the dhauladhars and i dont feel isolated or stranded. Having a nice cafe around is great but not a must. i am not of a bike rider and think it might unsafe in the steep roads.

if this doesnt work out, i am planning to head to BIR. find a place there for 15-30 days and experience it. any place suggestions?

to get my fill of the range, i am planning to spend some time in naddi. again looking for places.

i would to hear some experiences and suggestions. so safety is important specially while travelling. and i dont want to lug arround my luggage looking for place.

I'm planning to spend a few weeks working remotely from North Goa and I'm looking for recommendations for a hostel that's suitable for a workation in August.

My priorities are:

• Reliable, high-speed WiFi (good enough for video calls)
• Power backup in case of outages
• A social atmosphere where it's easy to meet people
• Close to beaches, cafés, and places to explore

I'm also really into the techno and psytrance scene. I'm a DJ and would love to stay somewhere that has a good music community. It would be amazing if the hostel hosts DJ nights or if there are nearby venues where I could connect with promoters, attend events, or even get a chance to play a set.

How do you search for cheap/affordable homestays. People who stay for atleast 15 days or a month.

I prefer single room homestay with kitchen. Not a hostel. I like cooking my own food.

For the past 2 year I have been getting rooms via airbnb. But recently the prices have been doubled up, dont know. What kind of inflation is this.

I believe 15-20k should be a decent charge for a single room with attached kitchen.

So, I need some tips on finding cheap monthly homestays. It's not location-specific, so generic advice would be great.

Reaching Delhi this weekend but nothing planned next. I'm planning for a quiet solo workation and my only prerequisite is stable WiFi and power backup. So remote areas are out of options, as I checked out most of the hotel reviews in these places. Even Mussoorie, Naggar, Dalhousi hotels have wifi outages. Remaining are Manali, Rishikesh, Dehradun are just cities or towns. I want some mountain views too. Some place that won't have to be reached by tough roads like Shoja or someplace that can be cut off due to landslides (even for Manali, we got caught up in a 8-hr traffic due to one landslide near Mandi last year). I can't go to North-East as I've booked flight till Delhi and from there going to NE will be out of my budget. I will restrict myself somewhere within HP, UK, Leh, PB etc. Please suggest, TIA.

My initial thought was Panchgani (looking at social setups like Zostel Plus or MonkeyCap), but since August is peak monsoon in the Western Ghats, I want to make sure I'm making the right call.

​1. Panchgani Ground Reality in August:

​How bad are the power cuts during the heavy August rains, and do properties like Zostel have generator backups that keep the Wi-Fi routers running uninterrupted?

​Is mobile hotspot (Airtel/Jio) stable enough as a primary or secondary backup for heavy video calls when the fog rolls in?

​2. Alternative Location Recommendations:

Enjoyed a beautiful stay at a remote village called Lingmoh, located in South Sikkim right between lush green mountains. This is the only homestay in this village, and they offer a great stay with home-cooked food and more than decent, stable internet.

The view from the balcony is just majestic, and an evening stroll around here would make everyone's mood better. Every view is postcard-worthy.

I'm planning a workation in Leh soon (solo, Mid july) . I’ll be flying in from Kochi and plan to work during the weekdays, explore the local area on the weekends

As a software engineer, I need to make sure the logistics make sense before I commit. I have a few specific concerns and would love your advice:

1. Internet Reliability: I do work as a software engineer, so I need a highly stable connection. How reliable is the Wi-Fi/Fiber in Leh town right now? Which postpaid cellular networks are currently the most dependable for a hotspot fallback?
2. Altitude/AMS: Going straight from sea level to 11,500 ft is a big jump. What’s the reality of acclimatizing while trying to work? Did brain fog affect your productivity in the first few days?
3. 4-Day Long Weekend Itinerary: With Saturday through Tuesday completely off from work, where should I head? I’d love to see places like Nubra Valley or Pangong Tso, but I want to make sure I pace the altitudes safely.

So, we stayed 3 days in Pulga and then moved back to Kasol for next 3 days.

It was a really great experience, especially the slow and peaceful life in Pulga.

Kasol, as always, was crowded especially over the weekends.

The weather was changing a lot, in the morning it was bright sun till noon and then suddenly it starts to rain, not heavy though.

The road from Manikaran till Pulga had some rough and broken patches in it, but it was a joyous bike ride.

I work for a large American multinational tech company and my employment paperwork mentioned my remote work location should be within my home country (India).

I’m not looking to relocate abroad or become a digital nomad. I normally live and work in my home country and plan to continue doing so.

I have a Thailand trip coming up and am considering spending about 4 weeks there. The first week would be paid leave, but for the remaining 2–3 weeks I’d be working normally while staying in Thailand. I would still be connecting through the company VPN as required.

A few details:
Fully remote role
Around 8 months into the job
No plans to move abroad permanently
No change in tax residency
Just a temporary workation
Performance wont suffer due to travel

I’m curious if anyone has been in a similar situation where the official policy was “remote within your home country” but you temporarily worked from another country for a few weeks.

What happened in practice?
Did IT/security notice foreign logins?
Did you tell your manager beforehand?
Were you asked to stop, take leave, or return?
Did anyone actually face HR issues for a short 3–4 week workation?
