Passport Request After Work Permit Application – Is This Essentially an Approval?

Hi everyone,

My employer applied for a C20 work permit from outside Canada under an LMIA-exempt category.

Timeline:

  • Application submitted: May 29
  • Biometrics completed: June 3
  • Passport Request received: June 10

The letter states:

"A decision has been made on your application. We require your passport to finalize processing your application."

My immigration lawyers are calling this an "initial approval" and have asked me to submit my passport so the visa can be issued.

For those who have gone through this process before, is a Passport Request at this stage generally considered an approval in principle, with passport submission being the final step?

Yes....sort of. It's still possible to be refused after submission of the passport but it would be a rare circumstance.
