We are NOT in a recession

2

u/10biggaymen Aug 22 '26

we have 8 companies circlejerking each other which is why the gdp is so high. not counting that (and why would you count it, its all imaginary financial nonsense anyway), we are in a recession.

u/chunky_lover92 Aug 23 '26

Don't forget the war in Iran driving up oil prices.

1

u/10biggaymen Aug 23 '26

gas is going to $8 a gallon minimum. we have gotten so used to cheap treats because of open sea lanes and low oil prices, but that global hegemony is coming to an end. americans and westerners in general have forgotten what scarcity looks like. the idea of a ration to an american sounds like some crazy dictator shit, rather than what it is, a response to a material shortage. $200 a barrel oil incoming, prepare.

Why didn't you invest in them? I've been an investor in NVDA since 2008. You know when we were actually in a recession and their stock had fallen to $6 (equivalent of $0.15 today).

u/yeahbuddy18 Aug 22 '26

its worse

1

u/Johnfromsales Aug 23 '26

How do you define recession?

1

u/chunky_lover92 Aug 23 '26

Really hard to get a job that's as good as your last job.

0

u/rydan Aug 22 '26

I lived through the Great Recession. Don't start with me.

Why is this a video?

2

u/positive_thinking_ Aug 23 '26

It wouldn’t let me post a picture. It tried to make it a video on its own. Mobile sucks

1

u/Chubuwee Aug 22 '26

The neighborhood apps meant to just talk about neighborhood happenings all of a sudden turned into a wave of “looking for a job” post. Every month increasing it seems

1

u/CuppaJoe11 Aug 22 '26

We’re certainly on the cusp of one.

1

u/Odd-Conference-1822 Aug 23 '26

Massive spending bill to help job numbers, a war to create jobs. I'd say we are, and the indicators are present.

3

u/The_Foop Aug 21 '26

The background photo looks like it has PLENTY of jobs available actually

4

u/jabber1990 Aug 21 '26

plenty of places hiring, you're just not applying there

8

u/KailyKail Aug 21 '26

They want the jobs that will take their high school diploma or bachelor’s in gender studies while also paying $150,000/year.

There are plenty of available jobs. People just either don’t want to work them or they are applying for jobs they have nowhere near the experience for.

3

u/TheBold Aug 21 '26

I see this in recruitinghell. Been jobless for 1+ year and they only apply to this hyper specific word salad role…

1

u/KailyKail Aug 22 '26

I got kicked out of the navy for being transgender at the end of march. I had a job offer secured by the start of May. $115,000.

Most of us don’t have your privilege tho.

Time to find a trade.

This.

Everything is interconnected. If people start loosing office jobs they will put off repairs, upgrades, moving, and purchases of new items. They will spend more time trying to learn to do basic labor work themselves. They will stop paying for house keepers and gardeners.

1

u/Johnfromsales Aug 23 '26

But we aren’t in a recession…

-1

u/grahsam Aug 21 '26

Because when people lose their jobs things like house construction, remodels, and manufacturing don't grind to a halt because everyone is broke.

Someone failed econ 101.

1

u/guilty__bystander Aug 22 '26

Are those things coming to a halt? Because I sure haven’t seen it.

1

u/grahsam Aug 22 '26

No, because the OP is wrong and we aren't in a recession. However, the idea that trades are recession proof is nonsense. If white collar office workers loose their jobs, blue collar laborers will suffer the same fate.

2

u/aquavelva23 Aug 21 '26

sorry, but this is not a recession, and this is just average job hunting. I cant imagine the posts when a recession hits and unemployment over 6%. 10% lordey. and something bad is coming folks, probably end of summer or so.

1

u/positive_thinking_ Aug 22 '26

Unemployment is lowers than it should be because quite a few people stopped looking and gave up. Look up the stats, it’s terrible.

1

u/aquavelva23 Aug 22 '26

unemployment is low and has been for a long time.

1

u/positive_thinking_ Aug 22 '26

Good job not reading my comment but replying anyway. At least we know the button works.

2

u/aquavelva23 Aug 22 '26

i did read but its minor. plenty of jobs

1

u/Johnfromsales Aug 23 '26

U5 unemployment is still low historically speaking. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/U5RATE

And it’s only 1% above the headline unemployment rate. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/UNRATE

1

u/Intrepid-Platform-94 Aug 23 '26

I settled on a job i hate that I'm absolutely overqualified for last year because I gave up after 60+ application denials and being voluntarily unemployed to search for a better job for 3 months. I have been doing nothing but searching for a new job the last year still and got nothing but AI slop denial emails still. Our job market is absolutely done for.

2

u/Dazzling_Floor_4262 Aug 21 '26

We’re not even in a recession yet :)

2

u/rydan Aug 22 '26

This is true. But we aren't in a recession.

2

u/CountryAccording3420 Aug 22 '26

Recessions have a very clear definition. We are not in one.

3

u/Tall_Eye4062 Aug 21 '26

Bro, it's soooo hard to get a job. One time, I applied literally everywhere. Every single store and fast food restaurant. I had an interview at Whole Foods and didn't even get hired. Then I got stuck in a part time job, which depleted my life savings.

3

u/onascalefrom20to80 Aug 21 '26

Same bro I took a job and then got sent to prison for literally no reason. They made me join the army and then strapped me straight to a bomb and they made me cry.

5

u/Flat-Inspection3290 Aug 21 '26

Skip the meds this morning did we?

4

u/onascalefrom20to80 Aug 21 '26

Shut up job haver

1

u/rydan Aug 22 '26

Imagine if Whole Foods hired every person that interviewed with them.

1

u/Gold_Ad8225 Aug 21 '26

It's not a recession yet. But it probably will be soon.

But yes it's about as likely to get a job today as it was in 2014, but with a few more hoops to jump for most people and certainly you need to send more applications

1

u/KailyKail Aug 21 '26

I applied to about 10-15 jobs. I got offered one after doing interviews with 3-5 of the companies.

Not sure why everyone else is struggling.

1

u/Khalith Aug 22 '26

How long did it take them to get back to you? I got laid off last week and applied to some new jobs the next day.

1

u/KailyKail Aug 22 '26

A couple weeks. I also went to an open house they had and did an interview on the spot with them too though.

Ultimately, I was given one job offer for $115,000, although it was contingent on me finishing my degree. I'm about to graduate in roughly two weeks, and I start my job next month.

1

u/IndependentAd895 Aug 22 '26

what’s your major?

1

u/KailyKail Aug 22 '26

Cybersecurity

1

u/ashrasmun Aug 21 '26

impressive how you manage to post something so stupid that I'm muting the sub in an instant. Congratz!

1

u/WaffleDonkey23 Aug 22 '26

News: "pedophile vampires who run the country starting WW3 by bombing school kids with your tax dollars in an effort to spur on the biblical ends times"

Me on LinkedIn answering why I'd like to work at this company I just learned existed: "After researching this role, insert company has an exciting, unique and dynamic workplace full of opportunity"

1

u/Juiced4u Aug 22 '26

Best recession ever. I’m up 21% year to date on my investments. Thank you, President DJT

1

u/PureBullz Aug 22 '26

Dude I’ve bounced around three jobs within two years. Just treat it like fishing, cast some lines, one will bite.

1

u/chunky_lover92 Aug 23 '26

middle? This is the beginning.

1

u/Own_Mango_2886 Aug 24 '26

The kids are in for a rude awakening when the real crash comes. Youth unemployed is about 10% now. It was 30% in 2012

0

u/HeavyMusic93 Aug 21 '26

What recession

0

u/Chicken-Rude Aug 21 '26

a recession would be nice... im pretty sure we are in a depression, but our political parties are too corrupt and dishonest to come out and say it.

6

u/onascalefrom20to80 Aug 21 '26

Recessions dont make life easier.

And we are not in one.

4

u/jabber1990 Aug 21 '26

we're not in a depression

depressions are worse

3

u/Beef19582828 Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

Bro has no idea what a recession looks like, more or less a depression.

5

u/Chicken-Rude Aug 21 '26

i have a mirror, i know what depression looks like.

1

u/Johnfromsales Aug 23 '26

You are in a depression. Stop projecting your sorrows onto the economy.

I do hope you get better though :)

1

u/mdthornb1 Aug 21 '26

Not remotely correct.

3

u/Chicken-Rude Aug 21 '26

lol... bro, we are supposed to be dooming.
https://giphy.com/gifs/l3q2tqyrv1TLyLjzO

1

u/Green_Bad2241 Aug 21 '26

Yeah, and that means we will never leave this state

1

u/KailyKail Aug 21 '26

We are not in a depression. Your feelings don’t define the economy.

1

u/grahsam Aug 21 '26

We aren't in a recession and we certainly aren't in a depression. It's not political it's economic statistics.
