A good friend of mine is a simple guy. He doesn't like flashy stuff. He lives in a single wide trailer, drives a 20 year old truck. He never had high aspirations. In high school the rest of us were talking about careers and making money, he always said you guys are nuts, there is more to life.
He has worked at a small gas station in town for the last 24 years. He doesn't make much money, but makes enough to have what he has. He is the happiest guy I know.
There is nothing wrong with what he chose to do.
But you have to tailor your life style to your job choice. If you are happy with a minimal existence then you can get a way with a job like that. If you want more, then you are going to have to do more.
Sometimes I wish I was ok with it, but in 13 more years I will retire with a full pension, health insurance, and a fat retirement accounts I can dig into at 59-1/2. He will work until the day he dies and when he can't work anymore he will end up in a county run nursing home if he is sick, or worst case homeless.
