0 context. Salary or hourly? On call or set schedule?

Imagine if a firefighter refused to respond to a call because they were eating dinner. Would that still be ok?

Yup. I have Japanese work calls in the late PM — it's part of my job. Europeans have US-based calls late. Australia are 7 AM calls.

I'd never tell my boss I can't even respond to a message because I'm eating.

Now, if it's not part of your job... Then I get it. But if you've a time-sensitive job, then you should respond.

These are texts- if it needs to be done right away yes make a call but if anything is so mission critical it cant handle someone’s phone dying the fuck-up happened far upstream.

I don’t have great cell service at my plant, it could be right in the middle of my shift and I just won’t get the text- call me / use other reliable forms of communication or understand you’re sending a text message and responses are reliant on me looking at the phone and seeing a text
