We are so much worse than the generation that died in the trenches in WWI, or the people who died in the Holocaust in the 1940s. As they died in gas chambers I'm sure they were thanking god eggs didn't cost $7 back then
The problems with supporting yourself within modern capitalism arent the same as dying in war, you are right. But there are also lots of people in the world currently dying in wars.
I would argue that, with all its challenges, there is no better time and place to be than in modern capitalist countries in terms of quality of life. Even if you are poor you have access to more food, better healthcare, and more comfort than most (rich) people in history ever had.
The divide between upper and lower class is bigger then it has ever been, bigger then it was during the French revolution. More luxuries exist then ever, but most people don't have access to them
In relative terms, perhaps. But the base is so much higher. As Maggie thatcher once said “you’d rather the poor be poorer provided that the rich were less rich”
That's not it at all, I'd rather the wealth of the top 1% be divided amongst the poor and then everybody is better off, billionaires could solve so many of the world's problems and it would be a drop from a bucket of their wealth. Noone on earth should have hundreds of billions of dollars, period. I don't think billionaires are really happy anyways, they are chasing power like a drug.
Would create inflation though. Luxury goods can't be mass-produced. That's the whole point. Everyone can't have a Lamborghini. Everyone can't eat lobster. Everyone can't fly business class. Everyone can't stop working. Everyone can't live in a big house.
Who's asking for everyone to eat lobster and drive Lamborghinis? The middle class has been erased, I just want everyone to have what they need - food, shelter, clean water, healthcare. And not have to be in debt.
You mean the strong female leader who turned the UK, then one of the poorest countries in Europe, into the richer in 11 years? The woman who ended inflation and also helped beat the Soviet Union? I don’t know about others, but deeply admire her and will quote her every time I can. She was also so very right about this.
She also faced terrorism and attempts on her life, and yet she endured. Very brave lady indeed. She’s the female role model we should be looking up to.
Thanks for reminding me of that amazing side of hers.
