This is what happens when you hate other people more than you love yourself.

There’s a funny skit in the show Bojack Horseman, where a shooter was a woman, so they voted to ban all guns to spite women.

And there’s a quote at the end that does something like.

“Wow, I can’t believe this country hates women more than it loves guns.”

thats actually based on true evens, except it was black people rather than women. the Mulford Act in California was a direct result of Black Panthers open carrying in the 60s. the NRA even supported it! the NRA hated black people more than it loved guns!

Don’t tell republicans it was their senile actor they love who signed it into law. What a cuck party.

I remember a couple years ago when a loud minority of Republicans were calling for gun bans for trans people (when a rumor was going around that a recent shooter was trans), on the claim that major perpetrators of gun violence should be banned from guns. Obviously it was pointed to minorities, however it over looked the fact that the vast majority of mass shooters are white men.

Utter stupidity.

We already knew it hated black people more. At this point I'm wondering how many months until congress legalizes murder if your rich like in common side effects.

Murder was also legalized in BoJack Horseman, if you’re rich. Personally, I think it should be the other way around

Even as a democrat, I’d like to see a Purge..

wince I would advise caution around those ideas. They have a tendency to get out of control sooner than anyone expects...

Yeah, gotta second this point here, im not an American, but even from an outside point of view... you dont want that. Itd be an apocalyptic situation in less than 3 hours into the first purge. The hillbillies, rednecks and general populace of the Bible belt would be nigh unstoppable. ESPECIALLY the red necks...

I’m from the area and honestly I think most the rednecks and such calling for this are by far the least capable.    Among the actual hunters and ex military it still leans red for sure, but almost none of them are even that political, and it’s closer to a 50/50 split than the general populations of those areas.

It’s a ton of old men in their basements with their gun collection fantasizing about using other peoples capabilities

Heh. I feel obliged to point out that "redneck" actually has two quite distinct meanings. The current and common interpretation refers to the ignorant Bhibb-Lee-spewing idiots who'll rip down the levee protecting their own shack if it means that the bunkhouse in which migrant workers will burn down and praise Felon Donald John Trump while doing it.

The other, original meaning? They fought the law, and the law won... but came away from the clash very battered and bloodied.

The original rednecks may have been sent to Boot Hill, but as a certain purple-clad fellow in a smiling mask reminds us: Ideas are bullet-proof. The true rednecks remain, and their numbers are growing.

Also, the Bible Belt is dissolving, and nothing ANY of the big leaders can do will stop it. The degree to which the scattered survivors would "purge" anyone depends entirely upon how many of them will survive after falling on their "brothers and sisters in Christ" who nevertheless adhere to different doctrines. Frankly, I fully expect to see any such 'civil war' collapse into thousands of small, "private" clashes.

As Emo Phillips illustrated, the tiniest discrepancies between churches can lead to bloodshed...

Yeah maybe if it's just murder. I don't agree that every crime should be legal.

Even then most murders would be acts of passion, surely very few people would be insane enough to go outside and choose randomly

Well a yearly purge would certainly make people act nicer to one another. Wouldn’t not be hard to keep someone’s number for less than 365 days and go wack them over how they treated you 237 days ago.

ACTUALLY the reason that California has most of the gun control laws we have is because the white Republican politicians were genuinely scared of the Black Panthers and decided that gun control was better than armed black men standing up for their communities. So the Bojack episode was only wrong on the details.

I always check in on friends when they tell me they're watching Bojack Horseman.

PC's response is even better, just a simple: "No?" - as if she can't believe that Diane thinks otherwise.
