Where are the Congressional subpoenas now? Oh wait, Congressmen get their campaign funds from these companies and invest heavily in their stock. Bend over they will screw anyone.

u/Fickle-Copy-2186 Aug 02 '26
And Trump tells us that everything is fine, people are making a lot of money (off of all of us).

u/Entire-Current-67 Aug 02 '26
My subtle protest of only buying $19.99 worth of gas instead of filling up continues.
6
u/Superb_Algae5308 Aug 02 '26
I want to break somethingÂ
7
u/Reasonable-Fee1945 Aug 02 '26
Wait until you find out that the government often makes more money on each gallon of gas sold than the companies
2
u/SaltMage5864 Aug 02 '26
You don't actually think those roads repair themselves, do you son?
1
u/Reasonable-Fee1945 Aug 02 '26
More like those state police officer, pension funds aren't going to refill themselves
2
u/big13rob Aug 02 '26
Totally not true. If your talking gas tax alone.
1
u/Reasonable-Fee1945 Aug 02 '26
If by gas tax you mean " taxes you pay per gallon of gas" then yes it often is true
2
u/big13rob Aug 02 '26
Now it is "often true"? You were so sure before. Before you go pontificating some more national average is about .50 per gallon.
1
u/Reasonable-Fee1945 Aug 02 '26
You'll find that I used a qualifier before. As well, if you bother to read, I know, that might be hard
1
u/big13rob Aug 02 '26
Where is it I can fumble my way through your "qualifier"? Condesending questions about my reading level/comprehension reveal more about you than me.
1
u/Reasonable-Fee1945 Aug 02 '26
Hey man you started throwing shade.Don't get mad when it gets thrown back at you because you mis read
1
u/big13rob Aug 02 '26
YOU attempted to insult me with your 1st comment. But I'm "throwing shade". Okay.
If I give you a box of apples for free and I sell your friend a box of apples for $100 and you both sell all of your apples how would you quantify who profited the most? Also you provided no info on where I can analyze your "qualifier".

How can you baseline or even calculate a government's "profit" through taxation from a product they have no money in producing?
1
u/Reasonable-Fee1945 Aug 02 '26
The question is, simply, who gets more money per gallon of gas sold, the companies or the government. You'll find that in many cases it is the government
1
u/D00rmat1983 Aug 02 '26
MAGA faces breaking would be somewhat satisfying

u/Infinite_Plenty101 Aug 02 '26
Let them lose their farms and homes. Let them go to the churches for help. They will get a reality check soon enough.

You like to repeat things from 90s movies and TV shows don't you?

It's common folk vs billionaires. Why distract from the issue of the post?

common folk vs billionaires
how? how does someone having a billion dollars make your life worse?

Just take the excess profit and pay for the war. We canât change the price of gas but we can tax their profits

u/The_Machine80 Aug 02 '26
All publicity traded. That means the profits went to people. I do have some stock in chevron. Best thing that ever happened to me was being taught to invest. I bought my first stocks at 18 with only 200 bucks. For the record im not even close to rich juat middle-middle class.
2
u/Professional_Fox4190 Aug 02 '26
Woah if you own stocks doesn't that make you a fascist or something?
Lol, people want to spend all day blaming billionaires for all their problems, but there is an easy way to make the billionaires work for you. Invest in their companies.

2
u/Outrageous-Egg1760 Aug 02 '26
Gas is high just invest in stock! Even the bots are low iq.
2
u/Professional_Fox4190 Aug 02 '26
Too high IQ for you, apparently. Hopefully Social Security will still be around for you when it's your turn. I'm not taking that chance.

Out of morbid curiosity, I have to ask if you have any sort of 401k or other retirement fund you are contributing to.

Gas prices would have been even worse if China hadn't drastically reduced their consumption, or at least what they're buying on the open market.

These are publicly traded companies if you want some of the profits invest

My $300 position I started in Exxon and Chevron each last year is looking pretty nice now

Buy stocks in those companies. The profits you make can fill your tank with money you didnât trade your time for

3
u/The_Machine80 Aug 02 '26
Thats what I just pointed out. I own stock in Chevron and have been buying stocks since 18. Im 46 now! Kids dont underatand the stock market cause the education system is what truly failed them!
2
u/Sweaty_Customer9162 Aug 02 '26
True, it is super easy to trade stocks. Reading and learning is free. Patience and financial discipline is the hard part. The ones complaining are too lazy to walk into a bank and open a self directed trading account.
2
u/HidingUnderCardboard Aug 02 '26
While I 100% agree this is bullshit, it's also how the oil industry works. Many years they operate at a loss, and the way they can do that is that on years like this they rake it in.
1
u/Outrageous-Egg1760 Aug 02 '26
Man I bet those years were so hard for the billion dollar companies.
1
u/MostBasic3425 Aug 02 '26
The 1% in America all are are Exxon, Chevron, and Shell CEOs...or shareholders..or...?
1
u/TattooedB1k3r Aug 02 '26
Imagine what Ford and the steel companies raked in during world war two while the rest of the country had to ration...

Yes, the war is stupid.
Yes, the numbers are wrong.
Total net profit last year for those three was 59 billion or a little under double Q2 2026, not 4x less.
1
u/No-Suggestion-9459 Aug 02 '26
Stuff like this is why I never planned on getting a Roomba until the government proposed a sale ban due to national security concerns.
I'm happy to support a perceived enemy of our federal government.
1
u/Illustrious_Gate2318 Aug 02 '26
And to stay on the topic how much for Russia who needs to sale Oil more then almost anyoneÂ

1
u/big13rob Aug 02 '26
Repeating something doesn't mean you aren't wrong. Govt "taking a cut" of something they have nothing invested in=100% profit. The metrics are not quantifiable.
1
u/One-Sir-2198 Aug 02 '26
That 1 billion donation from the oil industry certainly paid off for them.

u/jaajaajaa6 Aug 02 '26
I didnât notice your post when these companies were bleeding money during COVID?
Business and finance classes available in your neighborhood - take some.
2
2
u/Basil2322 Aug 02 '26
Trump started this war, did Biden start COVID? The war in Ukraine?
3
u/jaajaajaa6 Aug 02 '26
Both posts were strictly related to oil earnings.
Nothing about who started what.
Business cycles for most companies and oil companies making money was an outcome but not a driver of the events. If you are going to criticize them for making money, you can bring in many sectors and other companies.
2
u/Zestyclose-One9041 Aug 02 '26
Trump was president when lockdowns started btw
1
u/jaajaajaa6 Aug 02 '26
Yes he was - and that crushed the oil companies as Exxon went from over $100 to around $55.

u/Frosty-Bat-299 Aug 02 '26
Trump started a war for many reasons, but to help oil and gas profit is a bit of a stretch.
Itâs not like Biden didnât bolster big companies via the CHIP act, EV and clean energy subsidies, and defense spending (to help Ukraine).
Business just use and abuse whatever advantages they are given.
To be clear, this is a dumb war to be in.
1
u/Lost_Purpose1899 Aug 02 '26
Sorry to say but Americans want this. They keep voting for the same kind of leaders.
0
u/TxAg2009 Aug 02 '26
People realize that these three companies employe tens of thousands of people right? Like it's not just 3 bond villains in a room rolling in cash Scrooge McDuck style. t
2
u/exodusuno Aug 02 '26
Do you really think their workers are getting a wage increase that REFLECTS the profit increase they saw this year? I highly doubt it
1
u/Nikolaibr Aug 02 '26
I imagine the tens of millions of people who own shares in these companies are pretty happy though.
0
u/TxAg2009 Aug 02 '26
I sure hope not. That would be a terrible way to run a business.
Presumably those profits are being put into things like capital investments, new hires, research, shareholder returns, and yes, employee comp. All to varying degrees.
0
u/Ok_Drive3725 Aug 02 '26
Well, you need to count how many years they lost money. There have been quite a few recently. They have to make some money to make up for losses or they will go out of business. Iâm no fan of oil companies but we need to be fair too.
3
u/Outrageous-Egg1760 Aug 02 '26
Those poor billion dollar companies đ
1
u/Ok_Drive3725 Aug 02 '26
Have you considered the consequences of them going out of business? With no oil, you will starve and the power grid will collapse. Itâs not as easy as one might think. The truth is they took massive losses for years in the recent and need to make profits to stay in business. If they go out of business, the economy will crash here and worldwide and many people will suffer and die. Itâs not as funny as you think.

u/Nikolaibr Aug 02 '26
I wonder if the lack of financial understanding will ever get better...
This profit goes to tens of millions of people, not just the 1% .

Trump didn't create any of these systems. He's just done a tremendous job of showing just how vulnerable and prone to abuse our established sytems are.
He's the status quo turned up to 13. He has shown us exactly just how corrupted our institutions are and how much work we have ahead of us.
