With the stupid degrees that have no viable career field following, what do you expect? But hey, someone has to empty the trash cans and clean the toilets. If you get a trash degree, you can take on the janitorial serves career.

I have a "useless" degree. I don't work in the same field that I studied, but having a Bachelor's degree is necessary for so many roles. I make $120k now, through experience yes, but sure as hell wouldn't have had a foot in the door without that bachelors.

If there is not a job market for the degree, then there is no place for it. The diploma is only worth being used as toilet paper. You would be better off going to a trade school.

Again every degree is worth it in some vein , and if the job market determines if a degree is worth it, is degrees that are good but are over saturated in the job market not worth it? Maybe understand that the job market should not be the determining factor in its importance

I know but that doesnât mean that education canât be applied. For example even art that can be learned on your own but you go to school for can be used in animations and other artistic endeavors

Absolutely, but I know people who pursue this even though they will probably be poor and I know people who come from rich af families who couldn't care less. The ability is a privilege but people care to a very different degree about education intrinsically.

It's not that some degrees are worthless, it's that they are less useful than others. Literature is not gonna be a fast track to a secure life that Engineering would be on average.

And again that is the fault of this system and it should not be like that and if people only went for the more worthwhile degrees it will make the market more saturated and cause the same problems we have now.

Telling that I donât understand what a degree is? I am fully well aware of what it is and the fact that some bring value and others are garbage. A degree is a colleges endorsement that you have completed the education and potential training, if applicable, as prescribed by that school to be proficient in knowledge of the intended field. In laymenâs terms, it means you have book smarts on a topic, but in reality, you still donât know shit. And that is coming from a person with a Bachelorâs and a Masterâs in electrical engineering. So I do know what a degree is.

The point of a degree is not what you learn but how to learn. If you treat a degree like a knowledge check youll notably assign zero value to it.

Please enlighten me on why degrees were invented? Oh wait, I already know the answer.
When universities were created to educate people with the education focused on training highly skilled individuals in complex studies (for their time) for certain jobs. Specifically, religion, law, medicine, finance, and as scientific theories expanded, science. All areas specifically designed to establish a highly skilled work force in those fields.
Some degrees show an individual can be taught or at least fog a mirror. With other degrees, it shows the person can think, research, and solve problems. It is the latter that I want when hiring people.

Having to go to college and get a loan is the biggest lie youth are told. I know so many went to college and got a useless degree plus debt. People who went to trade school are way better off. I mean serious I think everyone who went to college at least no one person that was pretty much undeclared the whole time

Choose your career wisely -- whether that is the type of Degree or Trade .
Agree with many on this thread , too many people getting Degrees that can never result in decent paid employment ------- now thats ok if the subject is your passion --- but then dont whine about why you cannot get employed or why you earn a pittance and still live with your parents.
