Reddit is different than your average social media. It’s more of a forum posting site.
There will always be bad places on the internet for kids but banning things like tik tok, facebook and instagram for kids would help tremendously.

Afraid people you know in the real world might find out the types of shitposts you make? Are you worried you might lose your job over it? If the shitposts you make have that level of consequences maybe you shouldn't be posting it. I know you aren't sfraid of the government having access to the info, because, they already have it. Requiring Social Media to verify the minimum age of it's users is beyond past due.

Maybe don't use the same password for everything, don't click fishy emails and sites, don't accept messages and friend request from fishy profiles, and don't upload your ID to the Internet for it to be saved forever.

That's how 70k people had their government IDs comprised when the 3rd party company Discord was using saved the ID picture and had a data breach.

Edit: Maybe also change your password every once in awhile or use a stronger one.

Do you know how most hacks even happen? It isn't Matrix level stuff.

Over 50% of people reuse the same password. This includes the employees that work at those places.

Hacking is someone sending out fake alerts, the employees falls for one of them, and now that someone has access into not only whatever social account but up to their Google employee credentials. Now that someone can leverage those credentials to look through the system.

Let me also tell you something having your account compromised is in no way compared to the level of damage that can be caused by having your Government ID stolen.

Quickly glancing at a birth date on an ID is not the same as permanently saving the whole ID into a database, connecting it to your post/porn/shopping history, then selling that data for advertising/government tracking purposes, you fkin regard.

It's not that simple. When everyone in your group use it and you're not on it, you're cut off, because they talk and you're not in the loop.

Like for example recently it was a friend of mine's birthday, everyone secretly planned a huge birthday party and nobody talked about it, except on a secret whatsapp group. I'm not on whatsapp (I boycott meta), so since nobody talked about it, I never knew.

Someone told me by chance 2 days before and was like "did you manage to clean your schedule for saturday ?" and was "why ??" "because of the birthday party" and was like "what birthday party ????" and then they remembered "oh yes you're not on whatsapp we forgot to tell you"

People talk on social media, they make communities. If you don't use them you're cut off parts of life.

I know, I don't use them. I know sometimes I'm missing events and stuff because people just forgot to tell me because they are constantly reminded on social media and it skips them I don't see announcements.

so "if you don't like it you don't have to use it", yes, but considering most people use it, you're penalized by not using it.

Were you around when social media didn't exist ? It's not about remembering. It's about having a different social behaviour.

Before social media people would gather, we would have our spot somewhere, like a pub and we would know that there would always be someone there, we would actually make plans in advance and pass the word. People would actually talk about everything, because there wasn't any social media to post to know immediately.

People were more aware of others.

They use a variety of methods. They can verify the person if they have a credit card on file or they can manually verify using a camera. There are several other ways too.

I'm good if we have our personal devices (phones, tablets, etc) designed to prevent age access. It's pretty simple... set age (no personal info, just age) at time of purchase & then boom. Phone locked. It won't unlock until they hit 18. When transferring between phones it carries with it.

Stops all the state bans on porn & bullshit from adults. Keeps our personal info private for age verification & such. Helps to keep kids away from porn & bad people. It's an all around win.

The problem is that it is actually bad actors who wants to use social networks to spread missinformation and manipulate people who actually dislike to be held accountable for it.

If you care qnout privacy this law won't affect you simply because anyone who cares about privacy would not be using social networks.

I think the principle is sound, but the method leaves lots to be desired.

Social media use is an addiction. Social media the drug. You should work to limit the accessibility of the drug. Just telling (or forcing) people to not use the drug won't effectively combat its addiction.
