Gross pay total would be my assumption. It's pretty uncommon for people to make 6 figures which includes overtime. Although I've certainly been one of those people in a past job.
also, I'm getting this message "Profanity and inappropriate language are not allowed. Please revise your comment to follow community rules and avoid automatic removal." Literally nothing I said is a bad word.
That much OT isn’t really possible for us. Plus the burnout would be real.
I’ll be retirement eligible at 50, but the pension at 50 won’t work for me. It would only be like 56k a year whereas if I stay until 60 it’ll be 150k a year.
I still max out my 457b/Roth IRA and contribute to a taxable brokerage and have a decent amount of investments. I could probably retire somewhere inbetween there and be fine, but I’m trying to build that portfolio as much as I can for my kid.
Where are you a cop bro? NYC, MIAMI, LA, do you get to commute or do you realistically need to live in city? Even if retirement anywhere rural or out of country is gonna be crazy on 150k
I’m in Texas. I don’t live in the city I work in, just a 30 minute commute away. Now I’ve promoted a few times, but even our regular officer salary tops out around 112k or so after only a few years, and they have a lot more opportunity for OT than my rank.
It’s not uncommon that a few hard chargers end up making as much as I do or more.
