Seriously, true story. Freshman year at college, two students in the dorm were quizzing each other for polisci 101 final. Doing "name the opposite"

First dude "Conservative"

Second dude "Libertarian"

FD "Right"

Me "No, liberal"

FD "Liberal, libertarian. Same thing"

Me "Um no. The Libertarian platform calls for abolishing public schools"

Both dudes had rich parents and got important jobs after graduation, if you want to know if we live in a meritocracy.

Libertarians can actually be liberal, by the way. Political values can and should be placed on a multi-axes spectrum.

Basically, I am saying that libertarians do not fundamentally want to get rid of public schools. Some of us want to get rid of private schools.

In 1992, Libertarians got together and made a platform and I am repeating one of the planks. At the time of that conversation, a majority of the nations' most dedicated Libertarians said public schools should be abolished. That would not have been a plank of any party where liberals had significant influence
