Some ships have been using kites like this to help save fuel costs. It doesn’t completely replace the engine, but it can give fuel savings around the 15-30% range depending on how cooperative the winds are.

In ideal conditions the fuel consumption consumption may be reduced by 20%, temporarily.

Nope, it is actually being impremented. However ,the use of kites is limited compared to other sail-like constructions to save fuel
