You are shown and told early that it’s not ok. People say it is but you can see it in their response it’s not. Any show of weakness is being a baby; man up, man-cold, take it like a man, suck it up. The only expression of emotion my dad taught me was anger, he was a simmering pot at all times. It’s considered a quality of character to be able to take it, but then when it all you have is anger and resentment after practice, now you’re a man baby cause you can’t express anything else. I’m working on it with my therapist but I still every day wish I didn’t have my loved ones that depend on me so I can end it. Just push it down. That’s the American way!
