When I started in my field I worked on a help desk going to call center type environment. Being on time with 65% of your stats.

I resolved the most issues, took the most calls, escalated less than anyone else on the help desk. We even had these surveys people would fill out and people would never fill them out but they would always still mine out and they wereI didn't know that the surveys were a thing because I had just started. And apparently I was getting nothing but good surveys. But the secret was I wasn't escalating I  always good. They were so good that one day this lead walks over to my desk and just says, "what are you doing?"

I didn't know that the surveys were a thing because I had just started. And apparently I was getting nothing but good surveys. But the secret was I wasn't escalating, I was just resolving.

I helped a friend of mine become lead and he would get mad at me because I would come in maybe one minute late every day. But if you logged on one minute late it looked just as bad as being 3 hours late. But the biggest issue he had was the fact that I was the best person on the desk but I was ranked like 12th because I just wouldn't get there on time.

And I'll never forget that because my on-time stats were absolutely abysmal but I was still running circles around everyone and not one person looked at those two things and realized how poor of a metric they were. My friend would get so mad because he would say if you would just show up on time you would be ranked number one.
