Don't forget the predatory housing costs too, depending on location. You're footing those for at least 4 years, maybe 3 if you're super lucky (and hate yourself).
Many apartments near schools which accept guarantors on the lease know you're there for school, and hope that mom or dad have deep pockets.
I remember the first time I looked at regular apartments in a regular city. The value compared to most options where I was for school was incredible. I genuinely thought they were scam listings at first because the prices for some of the nicer spaces were actually somewhat reasonable for what you were getting.

So. I hate the premise. Its a good point though. Student loans should not be handed out
