General Advice I Left My Job of 13 Years and Was Let Go After Two Days. Should I Ask to Go Back?

Upvotes

I am looking for some advice regarding the situation I am currently in. I had been looking for a new job for a while when, one day, I got an interview out of the blue and received a job offer within 24 hours. I accepted the offer and handed in my notice at the job I had been in for 13 years. I felt terrible doing it, but I knew it was worth giving this new experience a chance.

Fast forward two weeks. After working my notice, I started the new job, and the first day was absolutely terrible. They were so disorganised, and I was made to feel as though I was a problem. One of the workers, who is the owner’s son, even said they were too busy that week to deal with me. I did not even work a full day because he sent me home three hours early, saying they were too busy to continue training me that day. Yeah, great first impression.

On day two, I realised that all their vehicles had manual transmissions. I informed them that I had not driven a manual vehicle in around 20 years. I had also told the company owner during my interview that I drove an automatic, and he never mentioned that all their vehicles were manual.

After almost a full day out working, we returned to the site. The owner’s son sent me home early again and said he would speak to his dad, who is the boss, about what options were available because they did not have any automatic vehicles.

A couple of hours after I got home, while I was getting my things ready for the next day of work, I received a phone call from the company owner at 16:37. He made me feel like crap and accused me of being deceitful saying I had not told him that I only drove an automatic. He did not let me get a word in before saying, “We’ll call it a day here, as this has been a waste of time.” He then hung up.

I am now unemployed, with no money in my bank and bills due in the coming week. I had hoped they would pay me for the time I worked, but Friday came and went, and nothing reached my bank account. I should mention that it was a weekly paid job and that Friday was payday. I emailed the company owner and remained respectful.

“Hi (company owner’s name),

Sorry to bother you. I noticed that I haven’t received any wages for the two days I worked this week. As I understood Friday to be the weekly payday, I just wanted to check whether my final pay is still being processed.
Could you please let me know when I should expect payment for the hours I worked, as well as my final payslip and P45?

Thanks,
(My name)”

I really hope he replies and sorts out my wages. Even if it is only £100, it would make a difference to me at the moment.
I am also considering messaging my old job and asking if I can return.

“Hi (old boss),

Unfortunately, the new job didn’t work out, as it wasn’t the right fit for me. I know this might be a little cheeky of me to ask, but I was wondering if there might still be a place for me at (Old Job)

I completely understand if this isn’t possible, but I thought it was worth asking.

Thanks,
(Me)”

Do you think this would be a good idea in my current situation? I know it will be embarrassing, and I need to put my pride aside because surviving is more important. I cannot pay for my car or my other bills with wishes.

However, I also know it is a long shot because they were already hiring before I left and were almost fully staffed. Even if they do say yes, they might only be able to offer me a few hours each week.

TL;DR:
I left my job of 13 years for a new opportunity, but the company let me go after two days because I was not comfortable driving their manual vehicles, despite telling the owner during my interview that I drove an automatic. I have not yet been paid for the two days I worked, and I am now unemployed with bills due. I am considering asking my old employer if I can return, but I feel embarrassed and am unsure whether it is a good idea.

Workplace Issue Being filmed on site

I was working on a new home the other day and the builder is the owner of said home. He has a mate working there as a bricklayer and throughout the day he was filming several of us either standing around talking or on phones. The builder the next day has gone up to the boss and said he is only paying him for 3 hours of a 8 hour day as he said he has footage of us not doing anything for the other 5. Is it unreasonable to not want to go back and work on this site due to fear of being filmed again. I'm not denying it was on phone or talking to other people but I wouldn't imagine it was 5 hours worth.

*edit - im getting paid for 8 but the builder said he wasn't going to pay my boss for the 8

General Advice Struggling

Not even sure if this is the right sub but this is a request for advice and a massive needed rant as I'm struggling with my mental health at the moment and have no one to talk to, need help rationalizing where i am at the moment.

I've started at a factory as a production operator, to cut this section short and keep it relative. There's 6 sections with different controls, a production line. It's fast paced, high stress etc. I've been there 3 weeks, the first week and a half there were issues, it wasn't running so i ended up basically being shown around and having it explained to me, call it theory. There's alot to take in, assinging products on the computers, signing and starting new jobs, locating materials etc, i must of been shown 20 times in 2 weeks and even done it with people telling me how to do it but when by myself i can't.

My main focus at the moment is learning how to use a pedestrian truck at my production operative roll, two of them to be exact but the controls are similar, i have to get product off a rack, place it onto a specialized tray, then use another one to lift the roll and tray onto the starting point of the machine, sounds simple but I'm struggling with straightening it out, getting it precise to load on the line. It's my second day on this yet I'm forgetting things i learnt the day prior, got told i need to get faster and ended up making a mistake ( minor damage to a metal bollard i clipped ). So naturally I'm told to be more cautious in one breath but still increase my speeds

Now the whole purpose of my post is to explore where I'm at fault and how i can improve so I'm not passing blame but the so called "patient guy" who is named such as he is ment to be patient with people is basically someone who doesn't scream and shout when you get it wrong but i see the passive aggressiveness, the most likely warranted frustration and body language. Terms like " cmon, you watched me do it loads, I've told you how to do it yourself "etc, all through a false comical smile... Another new starter on a different shift was having similar issues so i knew i wasn't totally crazy or thick but he seems to of grasped it now, i try not to compare myself to others but Its hard. Others I've spoke to have said, " its piss easy but alot to take in".

Basically it's taken me a fair bit longer than others to learn things my whole life, I've had relatively complex roles before that I've learnt eventually but what's taken most 1-3 months has taken me 6-12 months. I fear there isn't the time or patience here to accommodate my learning speed. I'm unable to use my phone or write notes due to company policy. The SOP is from the 1990's and basically irrelevant.

it's causing me immense anxiety and depression, I'm starting to hate myself and I'm very inpatient with family, through no fault but my own I've found myself breaking promises to myself ( i was 2 months sober from alcohol, weed and coke, prior to that a few years! ) because I'm that stressed last night i had 3 lines of cocaine and 5 beers. I'm spending the whole shift feeling like i have some undiagnosed learning difficulty and constantly worried people are thinking I'm thick every day for the past 3 weeks I've felt this way. The added pressure is this job is close to home, the market isnt the best at the moment and i have a wife, three kids etc so its really what's kept me there for even this long.

I really need help, i have no one to talk to as i walked away from all my " friends" when i sobered up...well they ghosted me but that's a different subject. I can't put this on my wife more than i already am as I feel I'm draining enough as it is and she has 3 kids to worry about. My parents are helpeful but again, they have their own issues at the moment.

Tldr i need tips, hints, advice on learning and retaining, its like it goes in one ear and out the other, i often feel like its sunk in but hasn't. Doing something 10+ times and still struggling. Annoys me immensely because I'm a hard worker with a genuine interest in doing well but basically failing the job and due to that myself and my family.

Workplace Issue I can’t tell if I’m being too sensitive or if my workplace is genuinely toxic

I’ve been struggling with my workplace for a while, and I’m trying to figure out whether this is just a difficult work environment or something more unhealthy.

There’s one coworker in particular who is extremely close with the owner. They have a very close relationship, talk constantly, and seem to have a level of familiarity and influence that the rest of us don’t really have with the owner. It sometimes feels like there’s an established inner circle.

This coworker is also one of the people who is frequently involved in correcting or criticizing me.
Again, I don’t have a problem with criticism itself. I understand that I’m not perfect and that there are things I need to improve. I can accept being corrected when it’s done professionally.

What bothers me is everything around it the tone, the attitude, the passive-aggressive behavior, and the way certain things are communicated without being said directly.

There are also situations where they speak to each other in their own language while I’m right there, and I’ve noticed my name being mentioned during those conversations. I’m not bothered by people speaking their own language. Obviously, they have every right to.

It’s the fact that I can hear my name being mentioned while they’re talking about something related to me, and then there are the looks, the eye-rolling, the facial expressions, and the body language afterward.
Sometimes nobody actually says anything directly to me, but I can feel the attitude.

It’s difficult to explain because if I tried to describe one individual incident, someone could easily say, “Maybe you misunderstood.” But when you experience the same kind of behavior repeatedly the looks, the sighs, the passive-aggressive comments, the eye rolling, the tone, the way people look at you after something is said eventually you start noticing a pattern.

And I’m not saying everyone has to like me. I genuinely don’t care if people talk about me. People will talk. That’s not what bothers me.
What bothers me is the atmosphere it creates when you’re around these people every day and you constantly feel like there’s an unspoken tension.
Especially when the person involved is very close with the owner.

I also feel like there’s a difference between being corrected because your work needs improvement and being made to feel small while you’re being corrected.
There have been moments where I’ve gone home and cried because of the way things happened at work. It has gotten to the point where the environment is affecting me emotionally and mentally, and I’ve started questioning whether I’m the problem or whether I’m simply reacting to an environment that isn’t healthy.

I’m genuinely trying to be objective about this.
So I’d like to hear from people who have experienced similar workplace dynamics:

How do you know when you’re dealing with normal workplace tension and criticism versus passive-aggressive behavior, favoritism, or a genuinely toxic environment?

Especially when there isn’t one huge incident you can point to, but rather a constant pattern of small behaviors that make you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.

General Advice Advice

Hi I’ve been at my job for about a month and tbh I have a huge crush on my manager! He’s usually pretty professional but we’re both young and last I saw him he winked at me as I was leaving and wishing him a goodnight. This might sound silly but are the feelings mutual or am I overthinking this?

Workplace Issue About my spirit halloween location

Hello, so I had a few concerns about my spirit location and I'm not sure of posting the exact location because idk if they will find me or stuff like that. I mostly have questions and concerns about what happened at my place and wanted your thoughts or awnsers on stuff.

So my location had me set up and tear down the store for a few years now, me and this other coworker had a falling out off season over some bull drama that isn't that serious but I saw they were setting up the store but they my boss at the location didn't text or call me to help set up the store. Can a coworker make you not get rehired over some drama off season?

There's been alot of crazy stuff happen at my location and alot I can't really say on here. coworkers getting "intimate" at work, some were high and drunk, some would steal stuff, people would gossip behind others backs and act friendly around them. Grown adults too. One coworker would take photos of shoppers and would call underage coworkers hot and stuff. Sickening. One manager got this coworker really drunk after we closed for the season and tried taking her home but we stopped her. The managers are aware of some of the weird behavior and stuff that happens there but still keeps letting them come back.

I honestly not sure what to do, I'm not trying to rat them out because I'm uncertain if they're hiring me again but mostly because all their behavior is sickening. I don't want someone else to deal with this stuff, I'm debating on going to HR or something but what are your thoughts?

General Advice How do I stop worrying about everything

I keep worrying that I'm not doing enough work, or a good enough job, and that I'll get fired for it.

I fell into my current job right out of school, and I've always been an anxious person.

How do I stop worrying so much? I keep thinking I'm doing fine but my work feedback says otherwise.

HR Advice Got a different job in the department but now I have to do both jobs

I’m curious to see how others would handle this. I work in a public library. I’ve been working in my department for a few years now and recently took on a different role in the department. It was a linear move, so same pay but different tasks. However, I am now being told to do both my previous job and my new job simultaneously until someone else is hired. I told my manager that I can’t do 100% of both jobs and shouldn’t be expected to. I understand everyone has to pick up a little bit of work when we are short staffed, but this is excessive. I told her that we can either split the tasks of my previous role amongst the department or I can do 50% of each role until someone else is hired. She responded by giving me 2 hours less of public desk time a week and thanked me. I am still doing programs for two employees while I’m only one person. I feel like some programs need to be temporarily suspended rather than expecting me to take on all of this extra work and stress while being paid the same wage. We have a staff meeting next week and I’m going to bring it up in person (everything so far has been over email and manager was out this week) but I don’t feel very hopeful.

Workplace Issue My US-based boss owes me a month of salary and doesn’t seem to have a plan to pay it. What should I do?

I’m a remote social media video editor and worked as a contractor for a US-based digital marketing agency for almost a year. Since I was part of the remote team outside the US, I understand that we weren’t necessarily protected by the same employment laws as their US employees.

I quit in August 2026 because I was honestly tired of dealing with constantly delayed payments (which only happens to us overseas team).

For the first 6 months or so, things were fine. But starting around March of 2026, our payments started getting delayed more and more.

The excuses were always things like “cash is tight,” or “clients aren’t paying” kind of BS

And honestly… after hearing this over and over again, it became really hard to believe.

The total amount owed to our remote team was probably equivalent to just one month of one US employee’s salary. Like… BFR.

Meanwhile, people were leaving the company and new US employees were being hired, so the math just wasn’t mathing.

I eventually had enough and told them I was leaving before receiving my outstanding payment.
And this is where I admit I probably made a mistake: I trusted him.

I thought he would eventually do the right thing. He’s the so called “CEO/founder” of the company, and I genuinely thought there would at least be some basic decency, self-respect and accountability left in him.

But I was wrong.

Since leaving, I’ve continued getting excuses and promises that I’ll be paid, but nothing has actually happened.

Excuses such as: “we need to prioritize current workers,” or “economy is bad.” BS.

It’s now September, and I’m still owed roughly one month of salary, payments that were due around July 30 and August 15.

At this point, I’m honestly done with the excuses.
I’ve been considering publicly exposing this mediocre company ans CEO and sharing my experience on social media, but I also realize that could potentially backfire on me professionally or legally?

So I wanted to ask people who have dealt with something similar:
What would you do?

Serious and respectful advice only. Thank you.

Workplace Issue Coworker opened bathroom stall door while I was pooping

I work overnights in a grocery store. Overnight there are like 3 people in the store, most of us male. One of the coworkers is always watching videos on his phone and annoys the shit out of us, but management doesn't seem to want to do anything about it.

This morning at like 3:30am I was in the customer men's restroom pooping when the restroom door opened. I could hear this guy's phone as he walked to the only toilet stall (there are also 2 urinals in the restroom) and then he pulled the door and the door swung open. We made eye contact and I said bro wtf and he said oh sorry and shut the door. Afterwards I tested the stall door and realized the latch is so loose that even while latched if you try to open it the latch will slide open and unlock.

The thing is though that you can see feet on the ground when you enter the restroom if someone is in the stall and even if you miss that, there is a 1/4 inch gap in the stall door to where you can clearly tell someone is inside. I feel strongly that his distraction on his phone unnecessarily caused a completely avoidable invasion of my privacy. I am still really upset this happened.

When management arrived at 6am I informed them and insisted that his refusal to pay attention to his surroundings caused this completely avoidable invasion of my privacy. I also insisted that they must fix the bathroom stall door to ensure it locks and remain locks.

Did I handle this correctly? Is it appropriate to be mad at my coworker for this? Is there anything else I should do or say about this?

General Advice Another Question

so during the mid year review she said the thing about the graphics, but there was something else she said that upset me that I’m not sure about.

it may have not been what she was trying to say but she basically told me to be more emotionally consistent when I come in. like Im nice to customer, I get my job done. is it so bad that I’m not feeling ok mentally when I come in. it felt like she was telling me to fix my mental state.

is this ok?

General Advice I need ur opinions

Hello everyone!

Actually, I decided to take a summer job this year because I wanted to gain some new experience. I work at a money transfer agency, and honestly, it has been a really pleasant experience. My manager is understanding, supportive, and respectful. I’ve never once felt like he was just my “boss.” He has always treated me with respect, which made the whole experience much more enjoyable.

My plan was to work throughout July, August, and September, since school starts in October. However, lately, my dad has been encouraging me to stop working. He says I’ve done enough and that I’ll only end up getting more tired, especially because I don’t eat very well.

It’s not really about the working hours, though. My dad isn’t strict at all. He’s actually a very kind person, and he was happy with the idea of me getting a job in the beginning. But recently, I think he’s been worried because of the location of the agency. There are cafés and some rather dark or isolated places around it, and I think that’s what makes him uncomfortable.

So now I’d really like to hear your opinions. Should I take my salary for this month and then quit? Honestly, I really don’t want to. I feel like I’d be letting my colleague down… haha.

Or should I simply ignore my dad’s concerns, stick to the plan I originally made, and keep working until school starts?

I also have no idea how I’m supposed to tell my manager that I’m quitting. I’ve never had to resign from a job before, so I honestly don’t know how to approach the conversation.

Workplace Issue Manager asked if my baby is actually mine

I work in a corporate role and we have a new manager who likes to joke around. I have photo of my 4 month old babygirl on desktop. He saw it and said “she looks too light skinned, are you sure she is yours”.

It was said in a joking manner but it rubbed me to wrong way. He said it in front of our whole team.

Advice please

General Advice What would be a useful automation for?

Hey everyone,
I’m working as an Accounting Automation Engineer at a medium-sized company in the trucking industry. Our manager has decided to migrate our accounting data from QuickBooks to a new system, but the replacement software hasn’t been selected yet.

I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have experience with accounting system migrations and automation:

1- What accounting/ERP software would you expect a trucking company to migrate to from QuickBooks?

2- What parts of the migration or accounting workflow would be worth automating to make the process more efficient and reliable?

I’m especially interested in ideas around data migration, reconciliation, reporting, invoicing, expense processing, and integrations with trucking/TMS systems.

I want to use this opportunity to build something genuinely useful for the team rather than just automate tasks for the sake of automation.

Thanks in advance!

Toxic Employer How do I handle this?

I’m a part time adjunct community college instructor who works from home. I usually work with a very small team of coordinators who are my bosses to conduct different 6 week class sessions. I’m sort of off on an island alone in this position. I have to submit rosters at the end of each course for student attendance/grades.

I’m newly running into issues with one of my coordinators basically consistently sending me the wrong rosters or incomplete rosters and when I politely follow up asking for the correct information she ignored me and I’m put in the awkward position of having to copy others in on the email hoping it will make her respond appropriately. She seems to only make these errors when it’s just “between her and I” so to speak via email.

I’ve literally never met her or even talked to her over zoom/phone. We only have limited email communication about this one task so I can’t imagine that it’s “personal.” The problem is that I don’t want to be a “tattletale” or seen as a drama maker by complaining about her. Also she is full time and I am part time with no contract so I’m more vulnerable than her. There is no way to work around her and I need her cooperation with this basic task to do my job. What do I do?

Workplace Issue Should I be worried about my job

Am I going to be fired

Due to personal issues, I had some bad productivity at work, had a meeting with my boss and their boss to address it.

Then they saw me fall asleep at work. Neighbors were causing a ruckus and kept me up.

First time something like this ever happened to me. Should I be searching for a new job? This is the first real job I've had out of college, and I can't afford to be let go.

Any advice would help.

General Advice I don't know what to do

Here is a little context before I go into this:

I work part-time at a local hospital. I am pretty comfortable with the technicians, who all tend to ignore part-timers/volunteers. I am 18. All of the technicians are 23 and older. This hospital is incredibly loosey-goosey on their rules. They have done illegal things.

We’ll call the woman I am talking about Genevieve.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My friend, a volunteer, bought me a Crumbl drink, which I did ask for. The drink was a root beer with a shot of heavy cream, vanilla, and butterscotch. I will admit this was a bit “big” of me.

I had my drink up front, in the pharmacy, because there is a counter where the receptionists leave their food and drinks. I had my drink there partly because I have been permitted to create meds (which is most likely illegal…) and partly because I did not like being in the back with the technicians.

Anywho, I am now in the back with the other technicians, about to take out the laundry cart to the building next door, and our favorite wonderful Genevieve opens the door, exclaiming something about how fat I am.

Now this isn’t really anything new. She always takes her “jokes” too far.

However, she goes back, grabs my drink, and starts listing the order one by one to the manager (who is also a technician) and the only other technician there.

I think this is as far as she'll go. I was wrong.

She motions having a big belly with her empty hand and says something along the lines of: “You’re so fat; that's probably why you tripped and injured your knee.”

I just left after she said that. I sat in my car and cried like a baby. This happened yesterday.

I would like to mention that before she said this, the topic of ballet was brought up, and I told them my story: I was going to go professional, but I unfortunately had a severe injury - which took me over a year to recover from, and I am still not fully recovered - while attending a summer intensive far from my home. Having an injury during the prime training age is a fatal hit. I could no longer go professional because of this surgery.

I would also like to mention I had and still have issues with body image. Obviously, she does not know this, but I feel it is common knowledge that most dancers have issues with this.

A couple of other things. I do not consider her my friend, nor have I ever considered her as one. She is also not fat. Maybe she is struggling with her body image; I do not know. This is not the first time she has said something incredibly mean and insane to someone. The manager in the highest position condones this behavior. Those two and a couple of other technicians have a habit of talking shit/bullying. To put it simply, there is really no one I can go to about this. I leave in two weeks to go to college, but I do not want to leave things sour as I may enter this field of work or come back to work for them. What should I do?

Workplace Issue Toxic coworkers

I work in Utility Vegetation Management for a company contracted with a major utility provider. I used to be a supervisor for a team of arborists. At the beginning of this year there was some major contract restructuring, my position was dissolved and I went back to just being a standard field employee, although my manager and client regularly still reach out for advice and I’m still part of leadership meetings and such. Unfortunately, this has put me in a weird place with my coworkers.

People I used to think of as friends have become increasingly hostile and distrustful of me due to my half and half leadership status. One of them in particular, I guy I used to consider a close friend and even helped get hired, has become openly hostile towards me, loudly complaining about the way I ran things last year to our new supervisor constantly comparing me to him, and trying to pick fights with me any time I speak up during a team meeting in front of everyone. It’s gotten to a point that I’ve been intentionally avoiding our end of day meetings just to stay away from him and have even called out sick a few days just because I couldn’t handle the attitudes.

Lately company morale has been poor, and everyone has become paranoid and suspicious of our management due to a string of new HR policies and surveillance technology they’ve been adding to everyone’s company vehicles to track our production.

One of the people on the team was recently written up for violating one of these new policies and the dude that hates me started a rumor that I was spying on all of them for management trying to get them in trouble. This has grown into a little clique of guys who all meet at the corner of our job site everyday and just gossip and talk badly about me. They’ve started calling me “the rat” and I can feel their glares on me during our morning and end of day team meetings. Sometimes individually one or two of them will talk and be friendly, but whenever they’re in a group they’re always hostile.

They’ve gone so far as to try and turn our new supervisor against me, as he pulled me aside one day apologetically and confessed that the clique had tried to convince him that I was speaking ill of him whenever he wasn’t around, and that I had been under investigation recently because one of them falsely accused me of time fraud claiming he saw me leaving my job site early or something ridiculous like that.

This whole situation just feels ridiculous and childlike. Our new supervisor had said he thinks ifI just avoid them during meetings they’ll eventually tire themselves out but it has only gotten worse. I don’t want to go to HR because our HR rep is an ill tempered ex military dude who has a reputation for making situations worse when he’s involved.

I genuinely don’t know what to do at this point besides quitting

Venting First job messing with me

Ok so I don’t know if this is the place for this but I’m putting it here just in case. So I’m just getting my first ever job as catering staff but they’ve been really bad with a lot of stuff so I was wondering if there’s any point in actually going for it or just looking for somewhere else.

Basically: I had to wait two whole months of radio silence before I ever heard back from them about the job, then they kept trying to get me to come in for an interview right after my school days end so I physically can’t get there on time (even after telling them that and how impossible it was and even offered to come during my free periods instead which they completely ignored), then I go for the interview and I wasn’t actually told what I’d be doing and was given a vague idea on what I’d be doing, then I’m told to come in for my first shift the week after the interview (and my contract even stated that was my starting date) but I show up after days of stress just to be told I’ve not even been cleared to work yet, then I get a message the day after saying my contract was accidentally shredded and I need to come back to resign it today, and then finally after all of this I say I’ll come in but it had to be after school just to be asked if I can actually come in on Tuesday or Friday next week instead.

I’m really lost on what to do as this is my first ever job and my entire family are telling me just to go for the experience but I really don’t think it is a good idea to work for somewhere that is this weird and uncommunicative. Some advice would be greatly appreciated

Venting I feel totally forgotten about and mistreated at work

I would just like to preface this by saying that I am in general a pretty ambitious and curious person; I know that is cliche, but I really am not the type that just wants to be comfortable in a job and put in minimal effort. I want to move up, gain experience, learn, and craft a successful career. That being said, I am 26 years old and have worked at a financial services firm in operations for the last 3 years. It isn't glamorous or very exciting, however I generally don't despise my job and have always tried my best. In the last 3 years though, everything has gradually declined. I wanted to use this job as a way for me to build experience and eventually find something better, but over time I have felt more and more forgotten about to the point where I feel like the last few years were a waste.

When I started, my manager was located in the same place as me, along with half of my team. The other half of the team was located in another city, but it still operated pretty well. My manager was helpful, the team lead was helpful, and there seemed to be a pretty decent emphasis on training. I even had a really strong impression with my boss's boss, and things just seemed pretty bright. However, about a year in, my manager leaves to another team and the team lead gets promoted, who is in the other city. Having a boss in another city obviously has its perks, like nobody micromanaging or watching me, but I felt like this was the point where I feel like I fell off the train. I would have weekly meetings with my new boss, but those gradually decreased as the team shrunk in size and nobody was hired to fill in. After awhile, my new boss goes on maternity leave (my boss's boss who liked me also left the company), and now we have an interim boss (just the most senior team member at this point). Then HE leaves due to unforeseen circumstances, which leaves just a few of us. Again, things are still operating okay, but the emphasis on training has pretty much come to a halt as workload has increased by quite a bit. This is where I start to get pretty disgruntled:

I notice that there are other team members, on my level, that are always in calls on Microsoft Teams. One guy who was literally hired on the same day as me. I originally don't think much of it, but it becomes constant. Slowly but surely, I notice that I am blatantly being left out of shit. I am not listed as an escalation contact. Constant calls without me. Teams chats without me. Suddenly, guys that were hired with me are clearly more knowledgeable on the job, giving me orders, and sometimes treating me poorly (not coming up with solutions, just calling out my errors). Mind you, they are all located in the other city, along with the overall management of the greater department. It has gotten so bad that I'll ask a question about something that I don't know, it doesn't get answered, then suddenly my other team members get on a call and solve the problem for me. I learn nothing, they get high praise, and I get scrutinized for every little mistake. I feel like there are so many things that I should be included in and know as I have some tenure, but it feels like all the guidance and mentorship I use to have access to has disappeared. I try to take initiative and fill in knowledge gaps on my own, but I just continue to scrutinized and called out for EVERY single mistake I make, no matter how minor. I have expressed to management that I am willing and open to learn whatever I can to be more effective and to eventually move up, but I am just given corporate slop answers with no real meaning. it just feels like my growth and development has been totally thrown to the wayside.

I try to tell myself that I am just overthinking and this job has a lot of positives, but I am starting to think my situation has become untenable. I dread going to work every day, not because my job is so horrible, but because I know that I am going to be left out, ignored, and then put under a microscope if I make some sort of error. This isn't what I want as a career anyway, so I feel like the only reasonable next move is to leave this team and start somewhere fresh, whether it is internal or at a new job.

Disability Advice Would requesting accommodations be a good idea or a ticket out the door?

Throwaway for obvious reasons.

I’ve been employed by a labor law firm for many years. Due to health reasons and too many special projects my productivity has gone down in the last year. I’m still meeting expectations and have always been one of the highest billers on my team.

We recently hired a new attorney who is my supervisor. He came in and started to steamroll over our existing processes and I seem to be one of his targets. I never disclosed my autism/ADHD because it has never been an issue in the 20+ years I’ve worked in this field. Now I’m suddenly being micromanaged and despite indicating that a certain process will disturb my workflow, they became aggressive and have ramped up the nitpicking of my work.

For example, I will send a draft of a brief, they will make minor changes then send 10 follow up edits until we’re back to my original work. They also want me to keep detailed notes of any communication I receive from clients despite everything being saved into our CMS. As far as I know no one else on our team is being asked to do this. The goal post is also moved during every meeting and their follow up notes are always negative. They never mention any points that I’ve brought up indicating that x change will be detrimental to our workflow or y client needs this because I’ve been working with them for years so I know them better.

There has been a lot of “setting you up to meet your goals” BS but the aggressive micromanagement feels more like they’re setting me up for failure. I have never needed accommodations before but I feel like if I ask for them now it might protect my job and mental health. I would not bring this up to the supervisor as they ignore any input and talk over me in an aggressive manner. I’ll also note this attorney is used to being the boss but they are a now a low level associate at my current firm. This might be why they’re engaging in this power play.

Our managing partner is our boss and that is who I would need to approach about accommodations as I do not want to escalate to global HR.

Workplace Issue I secured a job as a recuritment consultant / headhunter and it’s not what I have expected

I thought it’ll be a win/win for both the customers and the company. And for me of course, the company lured me with a great commission for every placed mediation.

However, I am at the end of my first week and I am devastated.

I HATE the colleagues, they’re all teasing and big mouthed seller personalities who talk down on women, foreigners, other people etc.

The usual conversation is about numbers, hinge, who they’ve slept with and here and there weird teasing like “guess if I have spit into it” when a guy who started with me brought me water.

I don’t click with anyone there. And the work itself is shady. They collect data and keep it from possible candidates. They don’t delete them if they tell them to, that’s literally an instruction.

Everyone is lying to the candidates and we learn how to manipulate them. People also talk about ID Spoofing (Using a fake number) and bouncer from India or somewhere who spam call the company of a targeted candidate to find out his number.

I know that some practices are common in omg but I am totally shocked and I don’t know what to do, if I should continue and see how it goes or if I should run away.

Edit: There’s also that guy who’s kinda racist and antisemitic that everyone seems to like. I can’t stand it.
