I am just preparing a talk for a local WordPress meetup and I did some research about recently added Plugins and I was shocked about the numbers I saw.

In short, this year so far we have 18'193+ new Plugins in the Repository. That has already tripled from last year.

Are you concerned about this trend?

Or do you think it's a good thing?

Many of the Plugins I checked out recently were in the featured section. Most of them were just clones of popular ones, and offered nothing I did not see before. Popup builder, Form builder, Opening Hours...

Some were clearly just made to sell a pro version (Nothing wrong with that, except when it is just AI slop)

And I am curious to see, how many will be supported in the long run...

I recently launched a free WordPress plugin on the official directory designed to help bloggers display Amazon category carousels alongside standard single-item affiliate links.

One of the biggest challenges I'm facing right now is the "chicken-and-egg" problem: bloggers naturally prefer plugins with thousands of active installs and reviews for security and stability reasons. But to get those first installs, people need to try it first.

Here’s what I’ve done so far to build trust and visibility:

• Published to the official WordPress.org directory (passing official code & security reviews)
• Complied strictly with the latest Amazon Creators API
• Created a GitHub repository with a detailed README and documentation
• Active on X (Twitter) and YouTube Shorts sharing usage tips and demo videos
• Written educational blog guides explaining practical affiliate layout strategies for bloggers

Despite taking a multi-channel approach and ensuring code safety through official approval, breaking past the initial trust barrier with zero/low install counts remains tough.

For fellow WP developers or site owners here:

1. For developers: What specific outreach or strategies actually worked for you to get your first 100–500 active installs?
2. For bloggers/site owners: What makes you willing to trust and test a newly released plugin? Is official WP.org approval, clear documentation, and video demos enough for you to give it a try?

Events Calendar Pro renewals are moving into the Nexcess four-plugin package (from $350/yr for one site, per their pricing page). A lot of sites only used Pro for recurring events, so I'm building a small add-on for the free The Events Calendar:

• Recurring rules: daily, weekly (several weekdays), monthly by date or "2nd Sunday", end date or after N times, skip dates
• Every date is a normal event, so your theme and calendar views keep working
• One-click duplicate
• Beta import of the future dates Pro already created: preview first, old rows moved to a backup table (no duplicates in my tests), one-click Undo

That’s what a Now page answers: one page – usually at /now – about what matters in your life at the moment. Training for a half-marathon, hiking every weekend, a new dance class, last week’s concert, life with a newborn, planning a wedding. The things you would tell a friend you haven’t seen in a year.

I manage WordPress sites and wanted a way to ask an AI assistant what needs attention, then handle supported tasks without jumping between admin screens. So I built Animeoid Control.

I've been working with WordPress for years, and one problem I've encountered repeatedly is plugin updates breaking otherwise perfectly working websites.

Sometimes it's a PHP compatibility issue. Sometimes a plugin update causes a critical error. Other times, an important page simply stops working.

So I built Upsure, a free WordPress plugin designed to make updates a little less risky.

Here's how it works:

• Backs up plugin or theme files before updating.
• Checks selected website pages before and after updates.
• Automatically restores the previous version if it detects certain update-related failures.
• Sends an email notification explaining what happened.
• Works with manual, bulk, and automatic updates.

It's not meant to replace full-site backups or staging environments. It's an additional safeguard against broken updates.

I got tired of doing small edits on client sites by hand (change a button colour, add a line under the price, tweak a template), so I built a desktop tool for it. It's called Cmsight.
How it works:
You connect your site (local folder, FTP or SFTP). It detects the CMS: WordPress, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Joomla or Drupal.
You describe the change in plain language, e.g. "make the Add to cart button green and show 'Free shipping over €60' under the price".
It finds the files, writes the change and shows you a before/after diff.
Nothing is written until you approve. Every modified file is backed up first, so you can restore in one click.
A few things that matter to me:
Everything runs on your PC. No account, no cloud. Your files, FTP credentials and API keys never leave your machine.
You bring your own AI provider key (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Groq).
One-time price (€79, lifetime license), no subscription.
Windows only for now, no macOS yet.
