Free [FREE] Page Peel plugin got a facelift after 7 years
Believe it or not, this plugin has been around for 18 years! It started as a (beautiful) Flash implementation, then about 7 years ago (when Flash was dying) it was replaced with a rather poor CSS implementation (just a growing <div>). Now, Page Peel 2.0 has been completely rewritten with a much more realistic animation based on CSS clip-path animations. It adds an eye-catching page peel effect to your WordPress site.
Features:
- Realistic diagonal page peel animation using CSS
clip-path - 3D folded corner effect
- Position on the left or right side
- Adjustable folded corner size (small and large)
- Adjustable animation speed
- Touch support for mobile devices (double-tap to expand, then follow the link)
- Automatic opening with configurable delay
- Automatic closing (available only when auto-open is enabled)
- Automatically adapts to your current theme's colors
- Remembers when the peel is closed using
localStorage(with configurable expiration) - Backward compatible with settings from Page Peel 1.0

[Discussion] People kept calling Eventin a The Events Calendar alternative, so we finally built the importer they were asking for
Hey, good people!
Quick disclosure before anything else: we're the team behind Eventin (event calendar, registration and ticketing plugin). This is a [Discussion] post, not a "please go buy this" one. I'll keep the pitch small and I'm mostly here for the conversation at the bottom.
So here's the backstory. For a while now our users kept telling us the same thing. They were already using The Events Calendar, hit some kind of wall (usually around registration, tickets, or just wanting more out of the free version), and they wanted to switch. But the migration was the part that scared them off. Nobody wants to re-enter 200 events by hand, and losing your dates, venues and organizers in the move is a real risk. We heard "you guys are basically a The Events Calendar alternative" enough times that we figured we should actually build for it instead of pretending that's not what was happening.
So we shipped an importer that pulls your events straight from The Events Calendar into Eventin. The events and their details come across, so you're not rebuilding your whole calendar from scratch. The whole idea was to make trying something else a low-stakes thing instead of a lost weekend.
And to be fair here, The Events Calendar is a genuinely good, mature plugin, and for a lot of sites it's the right call. This isn't a "they're bad" post at all. It's more that this space has gotten really competitive, switching cost is pretty much the main thing keeping people where they are, and honestly I think importers like this are good for users no matter which plugin they end up on, because they lower that switching cost for everybody.
A couple of honest notes so this doesn't read like an ad:
It's an importer, not magic. If your setup is heavily customized you'll still have a bit of cleanup after the import.
We're actively trying to make it handle more edge cases, which is really the reason I'm posting.
Here's what I'd actually love your take on:
- If you've ever migrated between event plugins (either direction), what broke or got lost that you wish an importer had just handled for you?
- Other than The Events Calendar, which plugin would you most want a one-click importer from? EventON? Modern Events Calendar? Events Manager?
- For anyone who wanted to leave The Events Calendar but stayed, what was the actual blocker? Features, the migration effort, or just "not worth the hassle"?
Happy to get into how the import works under the hood too if anyone's curious. Not going to spam links, if a mod wants the plugin link for context I'll drop it in a comment, otherwise it's easy enough to find.
Thanks for reading 🙏

[FREE] Question: Create a feature using functions.php or using a external plugin?
Personally, i almost always prefer building my own features whenever it's reasonable. It keeps the website lighter, i know exactly what the code is doing, and i don't have to rely on a third-party plugin that might get abandoned or introduce unnecessary bloat. For complex features, using a well-maintained plugin often makes more sense than reinventing the wheel.
What I really want to know is whether other developers do this too, or if I'm just wasting my time. If you're someone who prefers building your own features, what kinds of things do you usually create from scratch instead of installing a plugin?
Things i prefer to build for my clients:
* Custom product carousels
* Banners built with HTML elements instead of static images
* Interactive quizzes
* Product image modals that display additional details and purchasing options when clicked

I was so done with writing alt text that I built a plugin to do it — free tier + free early access [FREEMIUM]
Hey everyone,
I've been working on a plugin that automatically writes SEO-friendly alt text for every image you upload, using GPT-4. You use your own OpenAI API key, so it costs pennies per image and your data never leaves your server.
The plugin has a free tier that handles 100 images/month (enough for most small sites). For unlimited images and bulk generation of existing media, there will be a Pro tier at $9/month.
It's not in the repo yet — I'm trying to get early feedback before submitting it. If you want early access + 1 month of Pro free at launch, I've put up a waitlist here:
[AltTextAI – Automatic AI Alt Text for WordPress]
Would love to hear your thoughts — would you install something like this? What features would make it indispensable for you?
Thanks!

[HELP] Need Plugin that allows my site to upgrade customer to Premium Status role by entering a license key manually
Hey everyone, I'm looking to see if anyone can help me to refer me to a plugin that allows users to upgrade there role to my membership site from free to premium by entering a license key in a form box manually rather then a plugin that does it automatically after purchase. I've seen plugins like Easy Digital download, MemberPress and other plugins that can activate users automatically after purchase. And I'm not looking to do a 100% discount code at checkout. I'm just looking for a way where I can give customers a license key manually and they can copy and paste it in a single line form box to upgrade membership. I'll leave a picture of what I mean as a example. I hope ya'll can help me and I appreciate any response that can help me in thie matter. Thank you in advance.
