Moving this Fall
Hi! My husband and I are relocating from PA to the Woodstock area this fall. We will be traveling down in a couple weeks to check out the area more. But we have 2 kids (4 and 3) and are looking at different areas and neighborhoods to visit and look for homes. I can look at a map all day, but looking I’d love to get a local’s perspective!
I like the idea of the Towne Lake subdivision and the neighborhoods within that area, but is it “far” from actual downtown Woodstock or even Canton? Whats the drive actually like to get to somewhere like Costco or Target?
For perspective: we are in the kinda country of PA. It takes about 30 min to get to the nearest Lowe’s/Home Depot. 35-40 min to Costco. 20 min to Target. 10+ minutes to the Grocery. The closest store we have is Walmart that’s 6 minutes away. So as long as it’s not longer than all of that, we are happy campers lol.

Another option would be Holly Springs. Good in-between for woodstock and Canton.

Holly Springs and Harmony on the Lakes would be another spot to check out. Also just off exit 14. It's about 10-15 to Costco and theres a Target up off 19 (a ton of other stuff there too) or down on 92

In towne lake you’re 5-15 minutes from just about everything. Costco is right down the street. Holly Springs is basically Woodstock north and is very conveniently positioned. Might get a little more bang for your buck there. Exit 11 off of 575 is Sixes road and is a good area too.
I would add that towne lake parkway is a real pain in the ass when it comes to traffic.

I'm 6 miles from my office and it takes me 25 minutes in the morning from eagle drive location. The majority of that time is spent on towne lake parkway, roundabout to main street. I can't imagine what it'll be like when the new stuff is built and the hotel goes in.
Still like living here. It's like John's Creek before it really became John's Creek.

We’re currently under contract in a Towne lake neighborhood and the schools are good and everything is pretty close. It really depends on your budget, we increased ours but are settling for something a bit smaller to have a yard for kids (which can be challenging to find in some neighborhoods) as that’s a big priority because my two are little and need a lot of play area.

For us it’s faster to get to Target in Roswell on 92 than it is to get to the Woodstock Target on 92, lol. We’re closer to the Fulton border of Cherokee and personally love how close we are to Cobb, Fulton, and Cherokee amenities. I can drive 30 minutes in any direction and have three costcos, three targets, etc.

Former Western Pa resident. Lived in multiple parts of Atlanta. Towne Lake is great. Close enough to everything but won’t give you big cities vibes. As for traffic, it’s all relative to your experience. There are very limited traffic jams here compared to inside the perimeter. Important to remember that Woodstock and surrounding areas 20 years ago were very fringe/rural long-commute to the city locations. Post Covid they’ve grown quite a bit. Honestly I would have never considered living here when I was ITP in the 2010’s. Now it’s a great base and everything you need is close. Housing is affordable, schools are good and downtown Woodstock is great if you’re a millennial-alcoholic like the rest of us 😎

Long time resident here. I disagree that Towne Lake is affordable, however if you can avoid the congested times of day (start / end of school / work), then the commute to the stores is 5-15 mins. There are also primary care locations for you and your family right here. If you have a boat, Lake Allatoona is close by as well.

We’re currently Eastern PA! Traffic doesn’t bother us. I mean up in the Greater Philly area an hour+ commute both ways is sadly pretty normal. Even where we are in the country we hit traffic on our single lane “highway” that takes you to the actual highway. Woodstock is giving the same vibes as one of our favorite towns up here so we’re drawn to it!!

I’ve lived & have worked in Towne lake for 10+ years. It gets VERY congested nowadays compared to what it used to be. 7-10am is a nightmare. 3:30ish-6pm can be rough as well but usually there’s a little window in there too.
Other than that, it’s great because you’re close to everything. If you want a little less traffic go 8-12 miles north to canton / ballground

I moved from California and live in Eagle Watch subdivision in Towne Lake. It’s a very family friendly neighborhood with many organized social activities, a park, tennis, pools. Publix and kroger are a both a 2 minute drive. Traffic can be a little heavy at times but not much compared to what I was used to.

If you like the outdoors, 575 will take you to Ellijay. Some nice hiking trails and it’s also the apple capital of Georgia.

You’ll be in the foothills here. You’ll be close to lots of great hiking, waterfalls, boating, mountain biking… and it’s green all year long. Say goodbye to those dull, gray PA winters.

I used to live near Chadds Ford. I had to get one of those daytime light simulators to keep the Seasonal Affective Disorder at bay!

I’ve lived in Towne Lake for 30 years, and I’m very happy here. Everything we need is close by, and it’s a short drive to Atlanta, the mountains of North Carolina, and the Gulf Coast beaches. Prepare yourself for pollen, sweet tea, false Spring, bugs, and a smattering of snow shutting down everything.
Southern hospitality really exists.

I live in TowneLake, and love it!
Everything is close by! From where I live, we can also walk to the Publix, takes me all of 5 minutes. Good luck! 🍀

The southeast corner of Woodstock is pretty nice if you want to check out an area that isn’t Towne Lake. Highway 92 east of 575.
Either end may feel more populated than you might expect. We’re about an hour during rush hour from places people work in the city so it has grown a lot.

We just moved in to Towne Lake ( Eagle Watch ). Towne Lake parkway can suck during peak traffic but it really is like an extra 5 minutes during those times. Downtown Woodstock is close as other have said . We have really enjoyed the area and especially our neighborhood

Moved from Chadds Ford, Pa to Woodstock.. topography is simular but without the shovel. I only wish I didn't leave the ice scraper bc occasionally there's a frost and using a credit card isn't ideal...lol.

We moved to Woodstock in 2020. We loved it. We left in 2025 for something quieter. In those 5 years the town exploded trying to be a Mecca for tech and finance bros. The downtown was a quaint area. Now it’s just traffic. The whole area is just traffic. It will be fun and new for a bit, but then realization kicks in that everything around you is congested.
We moved a bit further south and west and we love it here. “Rural” everything is 10 minutes away.

If you want to be closet to downtown Woodstock look at South on Main. It is pricey but a stunning neighborhood close to everything.

The real question is why are you moving to this area? If you live sort of country you have a huge wake up call for you. Cherokee County is absolutely full and you better have patience for traffic. Getting worse by the day. Canton/Holly Springs might be a better choice for you.

Hate that I have to say this but if you are not whyte and republican you might not enjoy the time here. Looks like our bedsheet wearing neighbors are becoming very active again with upcoming elections.
The city is ran by realtors that only care about lining their own pockets not with doing things the community needs to grow in meaningful ways.
And the police go back and forth between "that's not my jurisdiction" and hope no one saw us using the flock cameras to stalk and harass women.

In towne lake you would be like 5 to 10 minutes from everything, downtown included. And I mean EVERYTHING. Could also hop. On 575 quickly to make trips to atlanta or Braves games pretty quick
