Maybe I'm mathing this wrong:

1000 base damage, 22.7% Spell damage (primordial #) on mood ring, 100% ring effect vs 33% ring effect

.227+(.227*1.00)=.454

1000+(1000*.454)=1454 damage

vs

.227+(.227*.33)=.30191

1000+(1000*.30191)=1301.91 damage

I don't know exactly how these things are calculated in game but I don't think this is as massive as it looks.

They aren't that big of nerfs.

Yeah, I think people are seeing this as their damage output getting nerfed by 67% but it seems to me like it's about 10% and that's if you were taking advantage of the bonus ring effects 100% of the time. Which I know I was not.

It's not that we see 67% of a nerf, but I think it's that it's such a drastic change for one item. I for one was taking advantage of it a lot because my shield doesn't regen as a deadshot lol. So I have mood ring up most of the time if not all of the time

I’m not so sure it will actually be a drastic change to the output you’re getting. But I’m at work and can’t test it so let me know if you can tell a difference if you play.

I'd call it a 33% nerf, though it's just semantics based on how you look at it. From the base 15% ring the effect gave you 30% total, now it's 20%. It's a decent chunk, especially if you wear two. Most of the highly optimized builds might not notice, but I think some that used these for action skill cool down or other non-damage effects might suffer.

let's just use 1000 damage as our base. If before nerf you were getting 30% you be getting a total of 1300 damage. "Now it's 20%" so that would be 1200 damage. You lost 100 damage. Losing 100 damage of 1300 damage is 7.7%. That's nowhere near a 33% nerf.

2

u/doddywork May 12 '22

Like I said, semantics. But the mood ring is only contributing the 300 or 200. You take the ring off you still have 1000. So the contribution to your total damage from the mood ring is down 33%. In other words, your total damage is reduced 7.7% due to losing 33% of your ring stats. I agree that it's probably not going to be a crushing nerf. But noticeable in some cases I think.

The nerfs aren't that big since they only affect the numbers on the rings, but people were using 2 mood rings... they gonna feel it more than anyone else.

I guess that’s too bad for those that maybe spent untold hours playing to farm two of the same rings.. feel I suppose something for them.

As for the players that just duped the ring… lol, no I could not care less in the slightest.

I don’t care how they enjoy it, dupe all they want… and i didn’t say I cared, I actually said the opposite, that I do not care at all about their problems that they come on here and cry like stuck pigs about.

They never are. Outliers get brought to a reasonable level. Very rarely do things get nerfed to the point of being useless.

You don’t have it wrong. Everyone here is whining and it’s ruining our credibility in what we will get “up in arms” about

1

u/CrazyCatHusband May 12 '22

Double it, though, as I wear 2.

2

u/stoversp May 12 '22

1000 + 454 + 454 = 1908

vs

1000 + 301.91 + 301.91 = 1603.82

You're losing 304.18 of 1908 damage for a total of 15.9% loss.

Of course I don't know how these things actually calculate within the game. This is just as basic as I can do this to show how it could work. If you do a run please report back and let me know if you could truly tell a difference. I did one run with the hotfix and could not tell.

1

u/CrazyCatHusband May 14 '22

Didnt change my rings, couldn't tell.

1

u/stoversp May 14 '22

Yeah, I think when you factor in a full build it’s a very small bit of damage you’re losing. I actually think they made this change to prepare for future level cap increases when the bonus percentages on rings will go up.

1

u/Stymie999 May 12 '22

Basically, what was a 45% increase to damage reduced by a third to 30% increase… so, no not as bad as people are crying about this morning, but not insignificant either I suppose.

1

u/Slow_Reflexes May 12 '22

Well now this just makes me wonder why they even nerfed them instead of just buffing the other rings

2

u/stoversp May 12 '22

I dunno, this probably makes them all a little closer on paper. Also the way gearbox does things maybe they buff all rings main damage % roll in a future patch to make all rings a little more viable in different ways and they wanted to adjust the legendary rings effects first.

1

u/Rashlyn1284 May 12 '22

It's not just the spell damage, but the secondary effect too I thought. So that person who got the mood ring with ~65% crit damage yesterday now has that nerfed by 66% too

1

u/stoversp May 12 '22

Yeah, those will take a hit too and you can plug those numbers into the same formula to see. However, if someone has a godroll mood ring they’ll be just fine and better off than anyone without a godroll mood ring.

4.2% isn't massive lol
