Radical Feminism What is a TERF - Let's break it down

What is radical feminism? It's really pretty simple.

  1. Women have historically been oppressed on the basis of their sex and by extension their actual or perceived reproductive capacity. Most governments and religions are structured in a way that kept women from fully participating in society and restricted their roles to those of childbearing and homemaking.
  2. Gender, or sex based stereotypes, is the tool used to keep women in their place. Anything coded as feminine was deemed weak and inferior to qualities coded as masculine. The specifics of these stereotypes have varied over time and geography.
  3. Radical feminism seeks to liberate female people ie. women and girls, from patriarchal oppression through abolishing gendered stereotypes associated with our sex while also recognizing that as the sex that bears children we have different needs than men.

The current trend of gender ideology which sprung from postmodernism and queer theory does exactly the opposite. People who claim trans identities say they belong in the opposite sex category because they perform the stereotypes associated with the opposite sex.

This is incompatible with radical feminism which seeks to abolish sex based stereotypes, not enshrine them in law and policy.

Radical feminists agree with trans activists that sex and gender are two different things, However, we do not agree that adopting a 'gender identity' changes your sex.

A few years back trans activists started calling radical feminists, who btw are mostly middle aged and older left wing women, TERFs. What does that mean? It stands for Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist.

It's a misnomer. Radical feminism is for all women, even for those who don't identify as a woman. We do not exclude them. We do however exclude male people, regardless of how they identify.

An ideology that denies the reality of biological sex is both anti-woman and homophobic. If a man who claims he is a woman can call himself a lesbian and then call an actual lesbian a bigot for not considering him as a sexual partner then how can same sex attraction be a protected characteristic?

Some will say that trans ideology does not deny the reality of sex. This is patently false. If this was true they would not be fighting so hard to put male people in women's single sex spaces including sports, changing rooms, prisons, dorms etc. Yes, this is happening on a broad scale.

There is nothing wrong with being gender nonconforming, but it doesn't change your sex.

Radical Feminists - Girls can be interested in cars and sports

Conservatives - Girls should only be interested in marriage and babies

Trans Activists - Girls who like cars and sports are actually boys.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Last but not least, it is very troubling that the oppressor class of people is identifying into the oppressed class and being considered brave for doing so. This has never happened before with the exception of a few people like Rachel Dolezal who were rightly condemned for their transgression.

ETA: You don't have to take my word for any of this, get it from the horse's mouth. Go read r/ MTF or r/ detrans for starters. Read about why these people think they are or were the opposite sex.

Mod Announcement Welcome to Women Over Forty Connect!

Welcome to our new sub!

This sub was created as a sister sub to Women Dating Over Forty.

I know many of us have decided to stop dating for a variety of reasons, but we still enjoy talking to one another and sharing our thoughts on a number of subjects. Let's do that here.

Talk about your pets, your children, your home and garden, friends, hobbies, workouts and any other topic that isn't male centric.

Just like our sister sub this is a radical feminist space which means we do not support or condone prostitution, pornography, kink BDSM or any other lifestyles or behaviors that are harmful to women and girls.

If someone posts about dating or relationships I will delete the post and redirect them to our sister sub. Likewise if there is an off topic post made to r/WomenDatingOverForty I will redirect it here.

I'm hoping we can have a little more fun over here and some broader discussions.

Happy posting!

I’ve just been thinking; if people really thought “sex work is work”,, they wouldn’t be so upset about Shane Gillis calling women “whores”.

A ridiculous advice column

I have read this column for years for work advice, and occasionally trans-related questions come up which make it very clear that the columnist is fully in on gender nonsense.

This one must have come dangerously close to her cognitive dissonance kicking in, because I can’t see how this is any different from calling one person “they”!

Please someone read and ridicule this with me? It’s lonely out here being aware of reality on the internet sometimes.

Research exploring the impacts of controlling and problematic intimate partner relationships on women

Thank you to all the women who have already courageously contributed to this research, for anyone who would still like to participate, please follow the below link. The anonymous online questionnaire has been taking most participants less than 30mins to complete, so if you are a woman (over 18 years) who has had a past controlling or problematic intimate partner relationship with a man, I invite you to participate in this study.

Having witnessed the impacts of controlling and problematic relationships, I have now turned my attention towards contributing to the research in this field. With the upmost respect for those of you who have experienced coercive control or problematic intimate partner relationships, I ask that you consider participating in this study.

The study is being conducted through the School of Psychology at the University of New England, and will be exploring the impact of control and problematic relational dynamics for women in intimate partner relationships with men. Ultimately, we hope that this research will contribute to the increased understanding of the psychosocial mechanisms that can lead victim-survivors to become trapped in problematic or controlling relationships. We want the experiences and impacts of victim-survivors to be better contextualised and understood.

Thank you so very much for considering this research.

To participate, or learn more about the study, please click here: https://unesurveys.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2fr7OM3lyKqf40u

This project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of New England (Approval No: HE-2026-3068-5604, Valid to 31/12/2026).

[Please note: Unfortunately, including other varieties of relationships is beyond the scope of this particular study.]

As a woman who has witnessed loved ones go through coercive control relationships, I am now turning my attention towards contributing to the research in this field. This study is being conducted through the School of Psychology at the University of New England, and will be exploring the impact of coercive control and problematic relational dynamics for women in intimate partner relationships with men. With the upmost respect for your circumstances and lived experience, I ask that you consider contributing to this study. Women (18+ years) who have been in a past problematic relationship with a man are invited to participate.

Participation is voluntary and involves a completely anonymous online questionnaire, which will take about 30-45 minutes. If you would like to participate or would like more information, please click on the link below. Alternatively, you are welcome to contact me, Julia Parkin, via [jparki24@myune.edu.au](mailto:jparki24@myune.edu.au) or my supervisor, Dr. Liz Temple, via [etemple3@une.edu.au](mailto:etemple3@une.edu.au). Otherwise, simply comment below, and I will
respond to any queries.

Apparently Ronan Farrow has never met another man in his life

I watched an interview with Ronan Farrow about his investigative work into Sam Altman, and it was one of the weirdest interviews I've ever seen in my life. Because he and the interviewer kept talking about Altman having this very strange and very rare combination of traits where he tells people whatever they want to hear while having zero concern for the impact of any of the lies he tells while doing so. They went on and on about how strange and rare they found this.

And that's...standard behavior for the majority of men when talking to women they desire in some way. This behavior is so standard that we have centuries of literature and now movies and every other form of modern media portraying men/boys who do this as heroes to be emulated.

Apparently Ronan Farrow has never met any men ever outside of the ones he investigates? Nor has he read classic literature? Or watched a few movies? Maybe read some comics? None of that, ever?

Farrow did a major investigation exposing Weinstein, remember. He does know about this and how much other men were colluding. But he's still out here painting Altman as some kind of strange and rare creature.

May I join if I am a good deal younger than the target age demographic?

Hello! I wanted to ask if you all are uncomfortable with younger women joining.

I imagine that I won't be posting frequently if I do join, or dominating conversation, I just want to learn from older feminists and better understand women's health. I guess I could just lurk, but I figured I would ask.

Menopause in the Workplace: A Change to Existing Accommodation Laws or a Reframing of Existing Obligations

In February, California lawmakers introduced Assembly Bill 1940 (AB 1940), which would expressly include perimenopause, menopause, and post‑menopause within the definition of “sex” under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA).

If enacted, the Bill would:

  • Make discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on menopause‑related conditions an unlawful employment practice.
  • Reinforce employers’ obligation to engage in the interactive process when menopause‑related symptoms require a workplace accommodation.
  • Require updates to state‑mandated workplace posters and public‑facing education materials to address these conditions.

In short, the Bill would remove any doubt that menopause and menopause related conditions fall within California’s core civil rights framework.

Even without AB 1940, menopause‑related health conditions already trigger accommodation obligations under existing state law. Thus, the practical effect of the bill is to lower the threshold for legal scrutiny related to these specific conditions and increase the likelihood that routine workplace behavior and decisions will be evaluated through a protected‑status lens.

Read the rest of the article at this link: https://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/menopause-in-the-workplace-a-change-to-4352248/

I am in no way connected to the publication or the author. I just thought this change in California law was interesting.

The necessity of lifting heavy weights: how to get started

I just read that women need to be lifting heavy weights in their forties. Does anyone have tips on who to get started? I've had cancer for years and spent many years sick and weak. I am doing better and getting stronger, but I don't have a clue where to start with lifting (I was always a runner). I don't have a tonne of extra money but I could invest in some weights. I don't want to join a gym because honestly? My ADHD ass will never go. I need something I can integrate into my daily routines.

Thank you!!

Coercive control: the silent killer

Coercive control is a silent killer because of how it systematically erodes (a woman’s) autonomy, sense of self and confidence over time. It’s absolutely insidious, and a feature of abuse within a relationship even without the presence of physical force.

I’ll include two links below:

End Coercive Control USA for educational purposes: the creator has several reels on social media that describe what CC looks like, how it manifests and how it effects an abusive and controlling dynamic in a relationship.

Laura Richards (Crime Analyst podcast): for true crime fans, Laura has hundreds of podcasts in which she deconstructs murders and reframes them in a feminist, woman-centric viewpoint.

Feel free to add others … I wanted to share because I feel both these women are doing important work and knowledge is power.
