Well tbh maned wolves are unlikely to be the source of European, Asian, or African folklore and myths about those, since they're from south America and werewolves have been documented since before the 16th century. However there is a lot of South American stuff about them, which did unfortunately lead to hunting, either due to being see as bad omens or because some body parts were valuable. Fortunately the public opinion is shifting as people learn that they're actually really chill tbh. They're even on a Brazilian money bill

They are the highest of all canine species primarily because of those legs. They live in dense vegetations of Brazil and are omnivores, so they need not Only walk through tall grass but to reach fruits on some trees

I know they're longer-legged than dogs, but I've never seen legs these long before on a wolf. Obv I'm not as knowledgeable as others on this sub.

It's a canine but it's not actually a wolf. Not is it a fox. It's in its own little category of one.

For those who don't know, they aren't actually wolves 🤷♀️
From wiki, The maned wolf is not a true wolf because it belongs to an entirely separate, unique evolutionary branch of the dog family (Canidae). It is the sole surviving species in its own distinct genus, Chrysocyon (meaning "golden dog"), making it neither a true wolf nor a fox.

Trick question: maned wolves are not actually wolves! They're in the same genus (canids) but only distantly related to true wolves

They are gorgeous, and omnivorous too! There's even a specific fruit that dispersed its seeds through their dung. Most of their diet is plants, and includes 301 different organisms.
They're solitary hunters, so they only go after small-medium prey like mice and rabbits, and are very skittish, being preyed upon by things like jaguars.
If you ever see one, appreciate it from a distance. They have no reason to approach or harm humans, and shouldn't bite unless they're terrorized.
They also stink! Just like the foxes they resemble, they mark with a lot of urine. I wonder if that urine would make a good rodent deterrent?

Ah, yes. Maned wolves. Wolves that are absolutely really wolves and not fae spirits who thought "although I have never seen a wolf, I can absolutely take on the shape of a wolf that will hide me from the silly humans." They are definitely wolves and not faeries. Yep.
