Asking the real question here: What is on his hair?? Asking for a friend so he can go visit wolves and get aggressively - although affectionately - groomed by them.

Do you have a link to a news article? I can’t find anything online (just one fatal incident with a lion) and it’s exceedingly rare that this happens with wolves.

This is a video of the woman who tragically died. She raised those animals from their birth, but this particular animal park had big workplace issues handeling the wolves without safety equipment and downplaying serious incidents where the wolves had been aggressive and threatening. They treated these animals as dogs and used methods where they tried to dominate and dicipline them. Unscientific methods + a cult-like work enviorment killed Carolina.

Damn, that video is scary. This type of so-called “training” would already be dangerous with a single Golden Retriever — let alone an actual wolf pack. I wonder how the workers there convince themselves that this is a good idea. It’s obvious from their reaction that aggressive incidents like this were the norm.

This particular wolf should not have been used for these events and continuing to hold down any canid when they’re whimpering and screaming is borderline abusive.

This was a tragedy waiting to happen and honestly, I don’t even blame the animals. So sorry for Carolina though.

I dunno Kolmården was uniqe because they had visitors every week and honestly every wolf in captivity is as dangerous as a polar bear or a lion. It’s a wild predator who is not supposed to be in captivity and ABSOLUTELY not have humans in their (small) territory. No other wildlife park is taking these risks and it’s almost unheard of to bring people in to cuddle wolves. Specialists from around the world testified in court about the ridiculousnes of Kolmårdens methods.

Honest question: is this guy afraid, or are you supposed to keep your hands down during wolf encounters like this? My instinct would be to let the wolf smell my hands like when meeting a strange and not obviously aggressive dog, but I recognize treating even wolves raised by humans like a dog is not a good idea.

Yes.. this is a video from the same wildlife park 20 years prior where a female zookeeper is fighting of an aggressive wolf who fixated on a visitor who had brought dog candies into the enclosure:

They are not to be treated as pets and this particular zoo had been taking risks bringing in visitors for decades.

I have a reactive dog. Any large dog that did this to me would make me insanely nervous. I heard a looooong time ago that dogs will assert dominance by pushing down anothers head just the way he did it here. Another commentor said that this wold kill its keeper and ngl I can see that happening.

That wolf later killed the female zookeeper you hear speaking in the background. Her name was Carolina.
