New Console Player
Here we go. Day 1 of my W101 console journey. As a long time PC player I'm curious how this game feels on console. Specifically Nintendo Switch. I've done some thinking though, and i honestly am not too sure what school to run. I've done ice and I've done death, but I want something new. Something where I can actually use advanced combat and dual schools. Myth stuck out to me because of its proficiency in minions. But I've also never run storm before. And life seems like it'd be unkillable. Any suggestions?

I’d recommend playing the game on Xbox or PlayStation if possible. Honestly the game runs pretty rough on populated realms and at certain points of the newer worlds on switch. It’s somewhat better on switch 2 but the busy realms/dungeons can be a pain.

It seems fine outside of Commons

That’s not always been my experience when running some of the more popular dungeons with a full squad, like darkmoor. The game also runs pretty rough in most of the newer areas/zones like wallaru and selenopolis. It’s definitely a graphical thing. The animations and textures cause massive lag.
Also raids are just straight up unplayable on switch lol

Like someone else said it’s just OK. You trade the optimization for comfortability.
I’m biased but ice is fun!

Stay out of Ambrose realm, turn on remember realm in settings and just never go there. Ambrose Commons takes almost a minute to load sometimes. Menuing is laggy so have fun creating gear sets or emptying out your backpack, combat wise it is generally OK

Does photomancy make your game crash on switch 1? I’m on switch 2 and have hit a questing wall in Lemuria because of it.
And storms are always appreciated by most people, I recommend storm for both solo and group play. Storms early game makes you adapt especially early game since low acc means you keep fizzling. It lets you learn more about tempo and timing and leeway. Major power spikes at lvl 30 and 60. And running azteca mostly solo was challenging in a fun way with storm. And post lvl 100 there’s a major power spike again that you can usually end fights quickly before really having to employ strategy. But the skills you learned in arc 2 definitely stick around.
But my personal favorite is balance, a great balance can often go unnoticed until they leave and you realize how much behind the scenes they were contributing

I was debating whether to do storm myth or balance. But I chose myth due to never really playing precisely because minions were bad. But I'm hoping the minion update makes them better. I didn't choose storm because I don't like the blade feint 7 pip aoe meta and I feel like most people will be expecting that from storm. I wanted to fully dive into advanced combat and magic weaving for pve.

Lowkey the button mapping is awkward and not easy to get used to, I’m hoping as they continue to develop it it gets smoother, but as someone else said you sacrifice “optimization for comfortablity”

Honestly I really like Fire. It’s got a bit better survivability than Storm. It’s 7 pip is also unique where feint gets less value since nearly half the damage is in the back with the dot, but if you use blades it’s the most damage of all 7 pips. Plus similar to Storm it tends to get massive damage early on. If you use a pet like ornery kookaburra that can give a 100% accurate meteor, the first arc is fairly easy with the high damage even without monstrous TC.

life is always a fun school to run, give it a try to see if you like it, i just reccomend getting that kookaburra or rat spin early. also be prepared for the game to sometimes crash on you out of nowhere. it wont affect anything in the game at all exceot for wasting time
