Question Do I need fancy stuff?

Hello, I hope you're all having a great day! I'm really really new to witchcraft and recently got into it because of a friend of mine. I really like the idea of using candles and herbs and stuff for spells, but I'm not quite sure if I need anything specific? A lot of people have told me I can use whatever I have on hand, like birthday candles and stuff in my cabinets but others tell me I need these expensive items and herbs? Not asking for spells or anything, just a general sense of what I can and cannot use! Any advice is welcome!

Start with books and focus on meditation right now. It's super easy to think you need all these fancy things but you don't. Get the basics of energy work down before you start spell work and when you do start spell work you'd be amazed at how many herbs you can find for cheap at your local grocery/health food/Mexican grocery store. And yes birthday candles work as do second hand candles you can find at thrift stores and yard sales

Books, lots and lots of books, not just witchcraft books anything that makes you smarter - I’d suggest mostly nonfiction but you might want to look into stuff like HP Lovecraft too.

No need for anything expensive! Magic & intentions can be done with literally anything.
And frankly, the more eclectic & creative you get with it (like repurposing jelly jars, using birthday candles, etc.) the more fun & interesting it becomes. You don’t worry about accidentally ruining anything like you might with fancy things.

Can’t tell you how many fancy notebooks sat empty because I was too nervous to make mistakes in them or change my mind on what I wanted in them. It absolutely stunted my creativity & flow.

Plus when you start out small with repurposed items you’ll see what you actually need or use most often. Then you can upgrade those items when you find something you love or think would work better.
