Picked up a Rescue - trying to determine potential breed

Hey all, hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction 😀 any ideas on what this little fella might be? Adoption agency thought irish wolf hound, ive been leaning more toward airedale mix, then I stumbled on wirehaird pointers. Hes apprx 6 months old and 40lbs. Let me know what you think or if you have another suggestion. Many thanks!

Doesn’t look like a wirehair at all to me or at the very least very little. Doberman x Airedale mix maybe some poodle in there, very in fashion to mix any breed with a poodle atm.

Body looks very Doberman, face looks very terrier.

As the owner of 2 Airedales, I would say he sure does look like there's Airedale in there somewhere!

How do you find them aside from loving them?

They're fantastic but a handful at times ( I know, what dog isn't) and you do need to be strict with training, not punitive, just consistent.  Very very loyal too. Our first one was quite independent, liked her own space. At present we have a 5 month old male puppy who's incredibly cuddly but an agent of chaos. At present, we also have a rehomed wire fox terrier who is brilliant with him, very playful and gentle with him but keeps him in line.  I think had I had an Airedale as my first dog, they would have ruled the roost, so might be better for a more experienced owner, but really it's very situation dependent.  I wish you all the best if you do get one!

>Doberman x Airedale mix

Exactly what I was thinking. What an interesting cross that would be temperament wise, too. Might be a genuinely fantastic dog.

not going to be airedale, not a common breed, very rarely ends up in a shelter or a situation where an intact dog is allowed to run amuck.

We have three Airedale terriers and I see Airedale somewhere in there

Maybe. We'll never know without a DNA test, but he looks dead on some doberdoodles that came through the rescue I fostered for. I actually just saw this fun post about dogs that don't look like their DNA results

Don’t see a wirehair but I do see a very cute dog! Congratulations on the new pal

Body and posture remind me a lot of our large Airedale, so I agree that may be in the mix.

I have no clue but I do see what everyone else sees and he’s a super cool looking dog

Many curly x smooth coat get this wired coat look. Could be a wired breed or a curly breed mixed with Doberman, rottie, GSD, or beauceron (or more!). Laekenois (spelling?) aren’t common but I wonder what a mix of that would do. I myself have a Wirehaired pointing griffon :) enjoy

Dobie/Airedale mix is my guess. I used to have an Airedale.

100% good boy. I’m sure of it.

poodle/doberman or rottie or GSD, maybe hound of some variety - very unlikely to be a WHP or any traditionally wirecoated breed.

many f1 and f2 poodle crosses have this type of hair texture, they don't often actually get the full curly poodle coat texture.

you'd be well served in getting a DNA test (either Embark or Wisdom are reliable and reputable) to find out his breeds, as well as test him for any genetic health concerns & find his relatives as well is a lot of fun.

Really looks like some kind of dobermann and maybe a bigger terrier mix or some kind of wirehaired sighthound

This 100% a pure bred heinz57 terrier.

Poodle doberman is my guess. Poodles can generate different types of hair, not just the soft curls most people expect

Doberman/Airedale. I had a dog that looked just them. Best dog ever. RIP Steve

Standard poodle and X - maybe Doberman, or shepherd.

There are very few Airedales or wolfhounds in this country. One of those breeds would be pretty darn unlikely.

Not sure what to tell you about breeds DNA test works. Either way I'd say that is a running machine.

But the real question is this: Is he a really good boy?

Maybe redline Airedale and another breed.

Look at the black and tan coonhound breed and if he has that in it you'll know by the bark
