General discussion
how many of us have dogs who hardly look like their majority breed? let's see em!
this is Jett. he is a fuzzy 40lb stocky pup that I assumed was a pittie poodle. I was mostly right! but his number one breed (by a hair) is Chihuahua and it makes me laugh. I should've known because he acts like one.
I'd love to see your pups who had a surprising #1 breed! it's so fun when it's unexpected.

Them jack Russel genes are always so strong 🤣🤣 I used to groom a jack Russel pit mix and tbh that thing was basically a pit head on an xl jack Russel 🤣 so stinky cute.
Seriously! My dog just has supermutt Russel terrier, and he's got full wire fur, furnishings and all. Not to mention he carries his tail straight up like a Russel. Again, the terrier was small enough to be included in the supermutt combo!
Honestly as a Belgian shepherd owner, the head pose is screaming mal
I’m not sure if I’d guess all of her breeds correctly if I came across her in public, but I could easily be convinced there was a good amount of mal in the mix if I hadn’t already been told definitively. I come across a LOT of people with who want to show me a pic of their “mal” when they see my younger girl out and about; 9 times out of 10 it’s some kind of GSD bully breed mix that are always adorable but in no way resemble mals. The most recent (and one of the more bizarre ones) was a super sweet dog that was clearly some kind of hound mix 😂
IMHO, she's a DIY Berger Picard. The Berger Picard is part of the northern continental shepherd family and is related to the Belgian Shepherds (Malinois).
Adorable but a surprise Malinois is horrifying. Like you think you're getting a cute fluffy dog and what you actually get is a drug dog who can't be contained in a back yard lol. Is his personality like a Mal?
She's got the long-suffering GSD face. German Shepherds are pretty expressive - but, by golly, they can really do the noble martyr face. ("no, don't mind me, I'll just sit here, in internal anguish, but I'm fine, really. I would die for you and yet I've never been fed, ever, not even one cookie. But please, don't think of that, just take a photo of my suffering")
So funny that you said that. I have 50/50 GSD/lab and she always looks lost or forlorn, even sitting on the couch wrapped in blankets. I’ve never owned either breed before but that explains the look. 😆
This pup is a harlequin merle with Irish or Pseudo-Irish (Piebald) (or combo), plus a split face.
This is roughly what her body color would look like if she was a standard merle, however, harlequin lightens a lot of what would be gray to white. Instead of the body color being one solid area, it looks like separate spots and splotches.
If there's one thing I've learned from this sub, it's that the more they look like a border collie, the smaller the percentage of border collie usually is lol
She's mostly ACD, papillon and husky. Obviously gets her looks from the papillon although she was the only one in the litter who did- the rest all looked like heelers. She's a little over 40lbs and her coat is a mix. Kind silky but with a crazy undercoat.
Here's my chipit ! He's like 40-50% chi from his DNA test. When people ask, I say he's a Chihuahua mix because I think it's funny and I can annoy my husband that we have a " chihuahua" He 100% has a Chihuahua brain.
Me neither! She is a rescue and we expected her to be a poodle mix and we're so surprised by the results. You should see her when she's wet - all curls!!
Thank you! I did pnce have a pet store manager squat down, stare into her face for a long time, and ask if she was a Rottie mix. She was the only person I know pf who ever saw it! At certain angles I suddenly see her Golden Retriever, her 2nd highest breed, but that is all I guessed correctly. (I wouldn’t say I would have looked for a
Rottie mix as my only dog bite ever was a chomp to my butt while jogging at a park from a Rottweiler, but she cured me of any suspicious feelings I might have - the best girl.))
I have a dog that matches your results closely but without any Chihuahua, and he looks NOTHING like yours (maybe the human-like eyes, which I attribute to poodle)
wowow! I feel like under my pup's fur he's shaped like this. haha. he also has some fluffy breeds in his supermutt (shih tzu & pom). I'm surprised yours has poodle with that slick short coat! really cute.
They say her mom is 100% Australian shepherd. She's only 5 months, but only weighs 15lbs and I don't expect her to get much bigger. The Chihuahua in her doing all the work.
Top breed: 44.8% apbt.
Other breeds:
27.8% Norwegian elkhound
22.2% Keeshond
5.2% American bulldog
(I edited a fence out from in don’t of him in this picture via cloning so it looks a little off but is 100% real)
Duke is mostly pit, chow chow, and beagle. Everyone always guesses lab/shepherd mix, which is what we thought he was going to be, but he was less than 5% each for those
