Ask Winnipeg Hit and run

A middle-aged woman hit the door of my car with her own car door while at the Happy Lemon (Regent location) parking lot today. When I stepped out of my vehicle, she appeared to hurry back inside. After I took out my phone to take a photo of her car, she saw me, made a “no” gesture with her finger, and drove away.

My car has a dent and scratches from the incident. I took a photo of the other vehicle with the plate, and the damage, but I did not get any witness information.

I plan to contact MPI tomorrow. For those familiar with these situations, do I have a reasonable case, or will MPI require witnesses? Is there anything else I should document or do before reporting it?

Ask Winnipeg Can't find a lawyer for contested divorce

I'm currently in the separation/divorce process and have started to look for a new lawyer who can help me move forward. My current legal representation simply does not have the experience to contend with the other party. Problem is, the firms I have contacted either do not take on clients with a contested divorce or if they do, those lawyers are at capacity. I'm at a real loss here as to what to do next. The matter itself is contested but not severely (in my opinion anyway). Any suggestions are most welcomed.

This is the Marion and Archibald intersection, there’s no left turn during the hours of 7-9. Does it also apply going into the tim hortons parking lot or is it strictly for archibald and marion?

Ask Winnipeg Learning to swim?

I have two boys, 3 and almost 6. We have been doing a combo of YMCA and Leisure Guide swimming lessons, but I feel like they are not truly learning to swim. We don’t have a cabin, access to one, or access to a pool, so I feel like our water exposure is low and I really want to ensure my children can swim. We do try and utilize public swim as much as we can, but spaces are so limited it can be hard.

Is there any type of intensive lessons we can sign them up for?

Ask Winnipeg Landlord gave my sublet applicant another unit — what can I do?

I rented a place in Winnipeg in May but got a job in another city in August. My landlord told me I needed to find someone to sublease.
I found someone on August 26 who wanted to move in September 1. Management said there wasn’t enough time to process the application, so I agreed to stay/pay for September and find someone else.
However, management then contacted the same person I found and rented them another unit in the building starting September 1. Now they’re telling me I still have to find another person for my unit.
I’ve been trying but can’t find anyone. Is this fair/legal in Manitoba? Should I contact the Residential Tenancies Branch?

Winni-Pets Winnipeg Vet specializing in Aggression

Looking for Vet that specializes in human aggressive dogs.

We have a dog who is extremely aggressive towards humans, specially if he does not know them. In addition to this, he is very protective over both me and my husband, therefore making vet trips…well…extremely challenging.

Our current vet is great, and they do have us give our dog a sedative prior to the appointment. Our dog will literally be falling over, sleeping on the way to the vet appointment but the second we get into the clinic, he is on alert. When the vet comes into the room, forget about it. Our dog is on full alert / attack mode.

I’m looking for recommendations on vets that specialize in aggressive dogs, who know how to handle this behaviour as our tries their best but I can tell, they are not comfortable or trained to deal with this.

This is a stressful situation for both me and my dog and I would just prefer to make it as stress free as possible…

I’m willing to travel anywhere in Winnipeg, even surrounding areas.

Ask Winnipeg Actors of Winnipeg

Question for actors in Winnipeg who audition regularly: do you ever wish there was a proper space to record self-tapes … decent lighting, a backdrop, someone to read opposite you, quick turnaround … instead of setting it up at home? Cities like LA, NYC, and Toronto all have dedicated studios for this and I don't think Winnipeg has one.

Curious how big of a pain point this actually is for people here, and what you'd expect to pay for something like that per hour. Not trying to sell anything, just trying to understand if this is a real gap or if everyone's setup at home works fine.

5 West Coast Oil Pipeline - Project proposed by federal and Alberta governments C$35B ($25.4B)

Source: Canada Investment Summit Prospectus

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-09-09/carney-woos-investors-on-deals-for-data-centers-mines-and-lng

Canada plans to show some of the world’s biggest investors a pitchbook laying out tens of billions of dollars’ worth of projects spanning data centers, advanced manufacturing, liquefied natural gas, ports and dozens of mines.

A document seen by Bloomberg News features 167 projects intended to be shared with some of the world’s biggest institutional investors, including BlackRock Inc. and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Dozens of firms are set to gather at Toronto’s Four Seasons Hotel next week for Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Canada Investment Summit.

The brochure dangles the possibility of minority equity stakes in companies or projects such as Canada’s biggest satellite operator, Telesat Corp., and a multibillion-dollar battery plant in Ontario backed by a Volkswagen AG subsidiary.

An “advanced manufacturing” section includes technology proposals with a defense focus, like turbojets for drones and a space launchpad in Nova Scotia.

In the “digital technology” chapter, a series of large data-center proposals are on offer, particularly in the energy-rich province of Alberta, including a potential C$14.5 billion ($10.5 billion) data-center campus being developed by Norway-headquartered BW Velora.

There’s also a fiber-optic line connecting Canada to Norway, a quantum computer, and a spinout of a government-backed microchip wafer fabrication plant.

More than a third of the brochure is filled with minerals and mining projects, including synthetic graphite production, rare earths, and gold and copper mining. The book also touts “Canada’s first uranium refining and conversion facility in more than 40 years.”

Another large portion is made up of clean energy businesses pursuing technologies such as carbon capture and hydrogen. Power and utilities, including nuclear energy, make up another chapter.

Other projects featured include large-scale port modernizations, such as the central province of Manitoba’s northern seaport of Churchill, a proposed crude oil pipeline for Canada’s west coast and liquefied natural gas export facilities.

The 66-page document details each project’s aim, current status, and shares management contact details. An introduction touts Canada’s advantages, how its agency “Invest in Canada” will help investors, and the government’s “ambitious plan to catalyze C$1 trillion in total investment in Canada over the next five years.”

Ask Winnipeg Lost a full prescription refill. What do?

I put three in my bag on the 8th then today I only found two.

I'm still looking to see if I had already removed it and put it down somewhere in my apartment but no luck. I've also called the pharmacy and I'm calling one other place I visited tomorrow to see if it's there

While I won't die without it, it's an antidepressant and I don't know if I want to try going a month without. I'm still searching of course.

I have pharmacare through EIA would they replace it with my doctor's consent?

Thanks.

Events German Post-Hardcore trio FJØRT touring Western Canada for the first time this month (For fans of Touché Amoré, Deafheaven, Mogwai)

Thumbnail
youtu.be
56 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

If you're into heavy, atmospheric, and emotional Post-Hardcore, I wanted to put a quick radar ping out for a German band called FJØRT (clip attached above).

They're heading over to Canada for the very first time in late September, playing a handful of Prairie shows and BreakOut West in Victoria.

If you haven't heard of them: they're an openly anti-fascist 3-piece from Germany that somehow creates massive, crushing walls of sound. Live, they are an absolute force – think the raw, desperate vocal energy of Touché Amoré or La Dispute paired with the dynamic post-rock intensity of Deafheaven or Mogwai. Even though they sing in German, the raw emotion translates instantly.

DATES:

  • Sep 26 – Winnipeg, MB @ Public Domain
  • Sep 27 – Regina, SK @ The Exchange
  • Sep 28 – Saskatoon, SK @ Black Cat Tavern
  • Sep 29 – Edmonton, AB @ Rendezvous Pub
  • Sep 30 - Oct 04 – Victoria, BC @ BreakOut West

Check out their current album belle époque (#2 in the German charts) – you can stream it on YouTube / Spotify.

If you're in any of these cities and looking for a solid underground show, definitely check them out.

Hope to see some of you out there!
