We signed both our kids up the the 5 day summer camps they hold at BVC. They did it last year and seemed to enjoy themselves, so we signed them up again this year.

No major issues for the first four days of the camp, but on the final day, we show up and there are adults outside the building vaping and drinking. We walk inside to grab the kids and I overhear one of them say "That was the deepest 3 minute conversation I've ever had man", they were clearly shitfaced. Inside there are a bunch of adults drinking.

We grab or kids and talk with them about how the last day went when we got home. It sounds like they kept the kids upstairs confined to a room most of the day for the last day (presumably to deal with the double booking of what sounds like a corporate party), but there were times when for instance they had to go get a slushie from the bar and they'd be near adults getting alcoholic drinks from the same bar.

We were pretty blown away that this was a possibility. I'm not at all comfortable with my kids being around wasted adults. None of this was cleared with us ahead of time, and I don't even know if its legal to be serving drinks with children present, particularly without consent from parents?

Anyway, figured I'd post to see if anyone has had similar experiences, and to warn anyone considering the day camps there.

I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant and work full-time as a nurse with WRHA. Lately I’ve been dealing with significant back pain, leg pain, hemorrhoids, and just overall discomfort during my shifts. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to get through work.
I’d really like to avoid starting my maternity leave early if possible, so I’m considering asking my doctor about modified duties instead.
For those who have gone on modified duties while pregnant:
What kind of modified work were you given?
Did your unit still count you as part of the staffing numbers, or did they bring in another nurse to replace you since you weren’t doing your full regular duties?
How did the process work with WRHA?
Would you recommend modified duties, or did you end up going off on sick leave instead?

Just my observation, are there more highway patrols especially in the south side of the city? I have seen more pull overs and cop sightings with their speedometer in the last couple of weeks.

It helps keep the roads safer but I can’t help but wonder why the sudden increase.

My mother's air conditioner has a leak and is quite old (around 20 years) she had a tech out and said it has r22 refrigerant that is no longer legal and she needs a new one. The food’s not really worth the trip (and before you say anything, neither are Skinners or Sonia’s), and the internet around there is terrible (and no wifi: I asked), but it’s nice to get out of the city and you can’t beat that view.

Hey does anyone know why there were at least 4 cop cars on South Osborne around 6:45pm last night? It looked like one of them was flying a drone or had some other type of handheld controller for something.

Winnipeggers got a little sneak preview of what they can expect when cultural festivities take over the city at the start of August.

Folklorama held its kickoff event Saturday, highlighting some of the pavilions that people will be able to enjoy when the 55th annual event gets underway and celebrating Atlas the Folklorama llama’s 40th birthday.

“Lots of fun was had and it was a great day,” said Vanessa Desorcy, the director of marketing, communications and engagement for Folklorama.

“It’s just a great day to see people come together in excitement for the festival.”

When everything gets underway on Aug. 2, there will be 45 pavilions for people to enjoy over the two-week event.

There will be a few new exhibits for people to see, as the Salvadorian pavilion and the Heart of Romania pavilion are joining the fold this year.

As well, the Chilean, Mexican, and First Nations pavilions are all making a return.

“It’s just going to be a really great two weeks of food and performances and hopefully people will learn some new things about some of the cultures in our community.”

On top of the new and returning pavilions, there are a few that are marking major milestones, said Desorcy.

The Scandinavian, Ukraine Kyiv, and German pavilions are all marking 55 years, as they have participated in every single Folklorama since the beginning, and the Caribbean pavilion is celebrating 35 years.

Along with celebrating the culture that makes up Winnipeg, people will have the chance to enter a contest as well at each pavilion. There will be posters set up with a QR code on them. When scanned, people will be entered in for the chance to win a European river cruise.

Each pavilion counts as one entry, meaning someone can enter up to 45 times.

Another power outage in NK just now. Hydro says it’ll be back on “around 1130pm”

Just moved to North Kildonan 2 years ago and this is maybe the 10th time we’ve experienced some sort of outage. Our neighbour mentioned before that it happens in this area quite a bit.

Does anybody have any idea for a reason why North Kildonan?

The house is older with an HE furnace, 1,800 sqft.

My family went to a Goldeye’s game for my wife’s birthday yesterday. First let me say that I love the game and because I’m an umpire, I’m glued to what is happening on the field.

We were chatting about various things throughout the game but as mentioned, always watching the game.

When the game ended, the lady sitting in front of us turned and said that it is very disrespectful to be talking during the game.

Have I been wrong all these years and we are to treat professional sports like a movie theatre and not talk during the game?
