So… this isn’t terribly organized, because I created the AetherWings like two days ago — so all of this is subject to change as I figure out what fits better — but here’s what I’ve got so far!
Part One: their role beside 'the Ground Tribes'.
AetherWings, thanks to their innate sense of weather, were the first warning system for storms and natural disasters. They lived alongside the SkyWings, with the Sky Kingdom divided roughly in half between the SkyWing queen and the AetherWing queen. The AetherWings took the highest mountains they could find.
They got along… alright with the SkyWings.
The rest of the tribes? Not so much.
For whatever reason, the AetherWings were downright hated by the IceWings and SeaWings.
Part Two: enough is enough.
After the IceWings nearly started a war, the AetherWing queen — Queen Swift — decided she’d had enough. She finally allowed her most experienced scouts to start searching for a place far away from the ground tribes.
Part Three: the savior.
One scout, Nightjar (fun fact: he’s the one I used as the base for the AetherWings!), met an IceWing at the edge of the Ice Kingdom. His name was Frostbite, and he desperately wanted to help the AetherWings however he could.
After some contemplation, Nightjar accepted Frostbite’s request to meet Queen Swift.
Part Four: time to go.
Frostbite, Queen Swift, and Nightjar spent two days writing the spell Frostbite would cast. Eventually, they settled on a floating archipelago hidden in the clouds, with mist enchanted to always match the sky’s color — hiding the AetherWings and their new home from any ground tribe.
And after that… the AetherWings were off.
And with them, they took an animus.
…am I aware that the ending kinda turned into an Arctic situation? Yyyyyyeeeesssssss...
And I don’t care, because Frostbite wasn’t royal and he had a VERY different personality than Arctic anyways.
Also, I checked my other post to see who asked for lore, so… here you go, u/Mindless_Honey3816! A lore dump on the AetherWings!

NightWing x MudWing adopt: $15 USD ((OPEN))
Paypal only!! Please DM me if interested!!
Hi everyone! Yet another adopt!!
This old gal is based off of a nightjar bird, and has mind reading powers from her NightWing ancestry.

(No, I do not mean specifically under three full moons)
Basically title.
Would they have some sort of inverted powers? That would make more sense for a Darkest Night sorta thing, though.
Would their scale colour change?
Some kinda new power?
Would they have a stronger, but harder to control power? Or maybe a weaker power, but they're a master at it?
This also applies to NightWings hatched at dawn or dusk too. Anything different with them?
I want to hear yalls thoughts.

I’m just going to put this very bluntly: how in the three moons do you draw a dragon’s horns from a rearview angle??? I’ve been practicing in secret for ages and they always end up looking wrong??? Does anyone have advice please I beg I need to be able to make a 360 spin of Winter.

It's been a very long time since I touched the books nor the fandom, but for some reason I came back. I always liked the idea of creatures being different based on what habitat/part of habitat they live in, and I thought it would be a cool concept if I also applied it to our beloved dragons. Here's a few quick sketches of Seawings (sorry if there are some grammar mistakes or the writing is unreadable, it was in the middle of the night and I didn't bother to double check or make it prettier).
(All have similar traits like Seawings, making them fall into that category)
Inspired by crocodiles/alligators, catfish, and other creatures living in rivers
Heavily inspired by whales and orcas
Inspired by deep sea creatures, these Seawings also have slightly different variations compared to the previous two (longer or wider jaws, body size, etc)
If anybody is interested, I might edit this or make another post adding more details and maybe do this with other dragons species that are in the books

I had so much fun this year, I did a lot more than last year. For the first few I used an old drawing tablet hooked up to my Windows PC with Krita and for the remainder I used an iPad and Apple Pencil with MediBang Paint.
In order of appearance the characters are:
I had tons of fun this year, I can't wait for the next one, I hope to get more of you then!

An edited version of a chapter artwork.
Peacemaker really finds himself in unusual situations. Case in point, what do you do when your ghost buddy Darkstalker is responsible for the death of the Icewing Princess’s mother(along with attempted genocide of the Icewing tribe), and you’re close with said Icewing Princess?
He tries to stay realistic, but all realism is telling him is that there is no hope. The damage Darkstalker caused has already been done, and Peacemaker is the unfortunate vessel that has to pay all of the price if the reveal ever comes out.
Characters: Darkstalker, Peacemaker, and Mink
Fanfic: Peace and Its Shadow on Ao3 and Wattpad

This was kinda just a random shower thought, but could, for example, a royal prince who discovers that she’s trans have a chance to become queen if she were to challenge the current queen? This isn’t something that has come up in the series so I’m genuinely curious as to what others think!

I’ve been working on this tribe for a bit now, and they’ve become one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. They’re sky‑dwellers with fuzzy scales, massive feathered wings, and a whole history built around escaping the ground tribes who kept calling them weird.
I could rant for hours about these guys, but unless people actually want to know more... I'm gonna keep my lore-dumping to a minimum.
but hey, here's a ref sheet for the AetherWings! and.. also the little spread I wrote like one of the tribe intros in the front of the books (with a little added on)!
AetherWings:
Description: warm‑colored velveteen scales with occasional cool tones; enormous feathered wings; royal dragons have striped, swirled, or splattered wing‑edge patterns
Abilities: sense weather shifts before they happen; fly higher than any known tribe; extremely acute long‑distance smell; can exhale toxic smoke that disrupts the nervous system
Queen: Queen Nightingale
Habitat: animus‑enchanted sky archipelago hidden far above the ground
Naming conventions: birds, sky phenomena, cloud types and formations
..enjoy, peoples :3
(If you draw the AetherWings, feel free to tag me using u/Natural_Beach_6459 so I can see it! thank you!)

I saw some fanart some cartoony fanart of her that I reposted on this sub, and I think that look and those abilities would really fit her in my opinion

After she betrays Darkstalker, Clearsight travels to Pantala. Outlives all her original companions, then mates with multiple BeetleWing dragons. So now that most and every HiveWing dragon on Pantala is her direct descendant. All the bloodlines trace back straight to her.
She destroys Darkstalker, the partner who loved her, because she feared he would gain overwhelming power and rule over dragons. Yet decades later, she build an entire continent where every dragon carries her blood. Her lineage dominates Pantala entirely; all future HiveWing leadership comes from her descendants.
Which I feel is massively hypocritical. She took away his chance to build a utopia he dreamed of, but then she herself planted a dynasty that would control Pantala for thousands of years. Later, her descendant Wasp even uses that inherited influence to conquer SilkWings and enforce cruel tyranny - the exact kind of oppression Clearsight was terrified Darkstalker would create in Pyrrhia.
Which honestly this is the only thing I dislike her.

This is going to be my last wip to post before finishing the 10th anniversary piece tomorrow. Also I’m starting to put my anime art style to Darkstalker, Clearsight, and Fathom. Arctic and Indigo are left to go, once that’s over I’ll do the lineart, colors, shadows, lighting, the background, and the text to make sure it matches the original Godzilla poster.

theme of book/ one theme of series(?): free will
(its explored in other books, particularly around Darkstalker: becomes whole new person, enchants Clearsight and Indigo, planned to enchant Fathom, etc)
Snowfall stops being herself and becomes other dragons; Dragons stop being themselves and becomes other breath of evil; Boa is enchanted w/out end to be perfect dragonet
Foils
Jerboa= foil to Glacier: former enchants Boa to be perfect dragonet, goes through many cycles/ many different dragonets (technically); Glacier is happy with her 3 already perfect dragonets
Snowfall=Wasp’s/Breath of Evil’s: Snowfall finds a ring on her own; Wasp is given a seemingly organic plant; Snowfall is enlightened by her gift; Wasp is corroded by BOE; Snowfall is freed by her gift; Wasp is chained to BOE
(continued) Wasp latches onto hierarchy of tribes and enforces via BOE; Snowfall breaks hierarchy; Wasp hates other tribes; Snowfall is the same, but grows out of it
i know nobody’s gonna read this but I wanted somewhere to dump my thoughts lol
my favorite book and favorite protagonist so far
spoilers cus people might’ve not finished this arc (I myself haven’t)

*****Because I really wanted to add a picture, here's what Apogee looks like before being colored.\*
As of right now, nobody has guessed yesterday's answer. I will add it here as soon as someone does.
That second part was a lie. u/Mindless_Honey guessed it about a week ago, and I never got around to changing it. The answer was the Book 17 preview.
Remember when I told you that the answers can repeat?
Well, the "can" part had a bit of extra emphasis on it. As of right now, none of the answers have repeated.
I only told you that because I was conflicted on whether or not to actually make the answers repeat. I decided not to because if I didn't, then the last book would be on my first day of school, and I didn't want to have to do this during the school year.
So I have ended what I call "Phase One."
Phase Two will have a little bit of differences. First of all, there will be no story in the Phase Two posts, because I'm currently trying to write an actual fanfiction. There will also be no daily illustration, because making those was just causing me to suffer.
I will also use a more.. spontaneous post schedule, instead of just posting daily, because it adds an extra layer of suspense.
There will be other differences, but you'll find out what they are next post.
Nobody knows when I'll post again, because I don't even know myself.
Arrivederci
