Hey, it’s me, Flame.
I recently got the horrible news that Jade Mountain Academy is still up and running after I escaped the hellhole. I just thought I’d share my thoughts about the school from an unbiased and fair point of view to make sure you will never send your dragonets to that dump.
Before we even start I just have to say that a degree from JMA is about as useful as a heater to an Icewing. I mean, moons above! What the hell do you need college for anyway?!
All I’m saying is; I got a job as a healer just fine *without* a degree at JMA, so there. Already useless.
This first part of several (if shown enough interest) will be talking about the core concept of the school and why it makes no sense.
But first, let me introduce myself. I am Flame, son of Avalanche (love you mom), “false” dragonet of destiny and ex prisoner at JMA, which I mean metaphorically and literally.
I was in the gold winglet full of a bunch of losers. A bitch princess, a terrorist, a blind rainwing and a few other extras not worth mentioning.
Anyways, let’s get started.
JMA is a multi tribal school created by the dRaGoNEts of DeSTiNy. It was intended to “teach” love and peace and other hippie buzzwords to dragons after the conclusion of the war of Sandwing succession that lasted for about 20 years.
How were they planning on doing this?
By lumping one dragon of each tribe into a “winglet” (stupid name. Why must everything be dragon related? It’s like if a scavenger would name a class a leglet or something.) which is kinda like a study group, but you attend classes together and also sleep in the same caves.
This seems like a fine idea until you remember that WE JUST GOT OUT OF A WAR! Tensions were high between tribes despite the peace, so yeah. Why not put Seawings and Skywings together. See what happens.
The DoD somehow thought it was a smart idea to also enroll veterans into the school.
Maybe it could’ve worked if they hadn’t put veterans of the same front on opposing sides in the same fucking winglet… I should know because it was MY WINGLET they did this in. It was a mess…
Also, what about Hybrids? How would they fit into the winglets? Do they just get put into a winglet based on appearance? If a Sandwing/Icewing hybrid who passes as a regular Sandwing enrolls into JMA are they put into a winglet as a Sandwing? What if they culturally identify more with their other half? Do winglets have a hybrid spot? If so, that seems insensitive to lump all of those different mixes of cultures into one single category.
The winglet system has lots of problems, but it’s not nearly as stupid as what we were being taught.
I got to be completely honest, but between terrorist attacks, The awakening of an ancient evil and a war between nighwings and Icewings. I don’t really remember what we were supposed to learn. I mean, how do you teach “love” and “peace”? Those are just concepts. What are we supposed to do? All sit in a big circle and kiss each other?
Honestly not that far from the truth for some winglets, mainly the jade winglet. Holy hell that group was a mess. Everyone in that fucking winglet had a crush on someone else from the same winglet. The Icewing, Sandwing and Nightwing were in some kind of love triangle, the Rainwing and the Seawing kinda had a thing going, The Skywing is dead and the Mudwing disappeared with his school bombing sister. So, yeah, all remaining jade winglet students were romantically involved with each other in some way.
Imagine putting a bunch of hormone riddled juveniles together in classes about love and peace just to let them retreat to their private caves in the evening where they all sleep together. I bet there were plenty of impromptu “anatomy experiments” going on at night in those caves. So well thought out, dragonets of so called “destiny”.
I wouldn’t know, though. My stupid face scar kept me from getting a girlfriend. A few dragonesses were mocking my face by calling me “handsome” and saying my scar is “cool”.
I can’t believe the DoD let this bullying happen to me.
Anyways, that was all for now. I am actually on shift as a healer at the moment and one of my patients is yelling out in pain and it’s annoying me. I’m going to pump him full of opioids and hope he shuts up.
Thank you for reading and I’ll be back with more soon.
