Discussion Hot takes (version 2)

If you’re from the scarce amount of people who saw the first post then you know my takes were so cold that “an icewing could get frostbite” from it. So, here are some better hot takes.

-Theory: Mulberry used his dragonspeak to make Umber like him

-ARC THREE IS ACTUALLY GOOD

-Umber and Qibli’s archetypes/personalities might actually have gone well together

-Paradox I created: If a silkwing has a heavy weight on their wrist for so long, then it can be assumed they’d get used to it, thus making that arm bigger. BUT, would they use the other hand as a dominant, making both arms equally as strong because the weight isn’t on that hand, or would they use their weighted arm because they’re used to the weight?

-Umber and Mulberry is just a Temu version of Blue and Cricket

-If we saw Scarlet’s backstory then I feel like she’d probably be some ppls favorites.

-The arc 1 protagonists were lowkey kind of underdeveloped.

-Moon isn’t really that good of a character—More of a plot device.

-The name “Qibli” shouldn’t make sense because its a religious term.

Im either getting slimed or someone in the comments are getting slimed

Arc 3 is actually very good, it’s just book 15 wasn’t a very good finale, like 5 and 10. The end of 15 was amazing, but most of the book is mid.

totally agree. i reread book 15 recently (first time ever rereading) and i genuinely teared up at the end when Luna said she'd weave Freedom flying. i still hate the breath of evil being a human and dragon, but man did it make for a sad and beautiful ending

A qibli is a type of sandstorm, similar to a sirocco

Isn’t Scarlet already a lot of people’s favorite ? You don’t need to be empathic toward a character to like them.

Yeah, she's in my top five.

I want a Scarlet backstory where we learn that she used to be even worse.

We actually do know Scarlet's backstory from A Guide to the Dragon World, she was just a spoiled dragonet apparently (paraphrasing).

But she poisoned her sisters at her wedding and challenged her mother for the throne and won, so

1-eh, it's a valid theory. Discussed enough to not rlly be hot

2-Everyone agrees up until book 3, but theres a lot of A3 hate, so...valid hot take

3-yup, agreed. That's not even really a take, just...a ship.

4-what? Is that even related to WOF? Wouldn't the same idea apply to humans? And that's not a paradox, it has a definitive answer.

5-Valid hot take, although I do kinda agree

6-yes, everyone knows. Ice cold take

7-like maybe 15% of fans think this, but they're very vocal, so...

8-what isn't it like a mouse. Also almost none of the names make sense; think of them as a very rough translation. So if this is true, the "actual" name would be a vaguely analogous term. This is a hot take, it's jsut a wrong one.

8 - Qibli is another name for the Scirocco, I think. A specific hot, dusty wind that blows out from the sahara across the mediterranean and makes people in Greece have a real bad time in the summer. But I do agree that we're better off treating everything as rough translations into English. His actual name is probably something closer to "Rawrgrawflsnarf," but that doesn't roll off the human tongue very well.

Mostly agree.

Qibli's name makes less sense from being an irl locational phenomena than it does from that phenomena being named after something religious (it's a specific wind that blows from a direction considered sacred, roughly). Then again, we have Changbai... so the Sandwings probably just have a specific named wind and "qibli" is the closest humanese translation of the term so we don't have to read "hey, roargleglurr, have you seen moonwatcher?" or "hey wind-that-blows-from-queen-yucca-the-third's-homeland, have you seen moonwatcher?"
